Well, Raggedy, you and I still have a marvelous sense of RNA, no?

My older sister loves Sarah, and I recall this song, but I had no idea that she did it.

Perdido, I look for my heart it's perdido
I lost it way down in Torido
While chancing a dance fiesta
Bolero, he glanced as I danced the Bolero
He said taking off his sombrero: 'Let's meet for a sweet fietsa'

High was the sun when we first came close
Low was the moon when we said adios

Perdido, since then has my heart been perdido
I know I must go to Torido, that yearning to lose perdido

I look for my heart it's perdido
I lost it way down in Torido
He glanced as I danced the Bolero
He smiled as he tipped his sombrero

High was the moon when we first came close
Low was the moon when we said adios

Since then has my heart been perdido
I must go to Torido, that yearning telude

Perdido oeoeoeoe Perdido oeoeoeoe Perdido
The day the fiesta started

Perdido oeoeoeoe Perdido oeoeoeoe Perdido
That's when my heart departed

It's perdido!

Great jazz tune, folks.

Quote:
Stompin' At The Savoy
Chick Webb, Lester Young
--------------------------------------------
Savoy, the home of sweet romance,
Savoy, it wins you with a glance,
Savoy, gives happy feet a chance to dance.

Your old form just like a clinging vine,
Your lips so warm and sweet as wine,
Your cheek so soft and close to mine, divine.

How my heart is singing,
While the band is swinging,
I'm never tired of romping,
And stomping with you at the Savoy.
What joy - a perfect holiday,
Savoy, where we can glide and sway,
Savoy, let me stomp away with you;

The home of sweet romance,
It wins you at a glance,
Gives happy feet a chance to dance.
Just like a clinging vine,
So soft and sweet as wine,
So soft and close to mine, divine.

How my heart is singing,
While the band is swinging,
I'm never, never, never tired of romping,
And stomping with you at the Savoy.
What joy - a perfect holiday,
Savoy, where we can glide and sway,
Savoy, let me stomp away with you;

Hey, hbg. I vaguely remember that one, Canada, and it reminded me of this one, but I certainly did NOT know that Van Morrison did it.

'Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome Mr. Georgie Fame'

(applause)

(Instrumental intro)

Jumpin' with my boy, Sid, in the city
Jumpin' with my boy, Sid, in the city
Mr. President of the DJ committee
We're gonna be up all night gettin' with it

Want you to spin the sounds that are with it
From down in the land that's real, real pretty
Make everything go real crazy over Jersey
Make everything go real crazy over Jersey
(Woo!)

Make everything cool for me an' my baby
We don't wanna think we're listenin' lazy
Gotta be Pressburg cheerin' all the Basie
The dial is all set right though for 8-0
Let it roll

If you tune in to your radio
You hear Moreno clear
Spinnin' your favourite tracks
Johnny Griffin's tenor sax
And all around Manhattan, all the cat's are jumpin'
With Symphony Sid

So tighten your wig
Come out in the boon, dig!ส
He's Symphony Sid
He's got the power to make you swing
He's the King
Ding, dong, ding

Ain't a-callin' him
Down or in a square
Really doesn't matter where, Jack!
Long as you're there
'Cause we said he's on the air

You hear the sweetest sounds
That you ever heard
And I mean to say
It's the grooviest way to get down
Every single name
Classic Jazz they taught him
Spinnin' till the mornin' light
And it feels alright

When you listen to the 'Bird'
You will flip!
Charlie Parker's spread the word
All the way up from Kansas City
Gr-ooo-vy as he could be

What a pleasure
Tuning in to Sidney
Let it ro-ooo-ooo-oooll

(Instrumental & sax solo)

Let it ro-ooo-ooo-oooll

(Instrumental & organ)

Junior Wells:
Jumpin' with my boy, Sid, in the city
Jumpin' with my boy, Sid, in the city
Mr. President of the DJ committee
We're gonna be up all night gettin' with it

Jumpin' with symphony Sid.

i'm sure you remember this one Laughing

Quote:
Let's Call the Whole Thing Off
Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald
--------------------------------------------
Things have come to a pretty pass
Our romance is growing flat,
For you like this and the other
While I go for this and that,
Goodness knows what the end will be
Oh I don't know where I'm at
It looks as if we two will never be one
Something must be done:
You say either and I say either,
You say neither and I say neither
Either, either
Neither, neither
Let's call the whole thing off.
You like potato and I like potahto
You like tomato and I like tomahto
Potato, potahto,
Tomato, tomahto.
Let's call the whole thing of
But oh, if we call the whole thing off
Then we must part
and oh, if we ever part, then that might break my heart

So if you like pyjamas
and I like pyjahmas,
I'll wear pyjamas
and give up pyajahmas
for we know we need each other so
we better call the whole thing off
let's call the whole thing off.

You say laughter and I say larfter
You say after and I say arfter
Laughter, larfter
after arfter
Let's call the whole thing off,
You like vanilla and I say vanella
you saspiralla, and I saspirella
vanilla vanella
chocolate strawberry
let's call the whole thing of
but oh if we call the whole thing of
then we must part
and oh, if we ever part,
then that might break my heart

So if you go for oysters
and I go for ersters
I'll order oysters
and cancel the ersters
for we know we need each other
we better call the calling off off,
let's call the whole thing off.

I say father, and you say pater,
I saw mother and you say mater
Pater, mater
Uncle, auntie
let's call the whole thing off.

I like bananas and you like banahnahs
I say Havana and I get Havahnah
Bananas, banahnahs
Havana, Havahnah
Go your way, I'll go mine

So if I go for scallops
and you go for lobsters,
So all right no contest
we'll order lobseter
For we know we need each other
we better call the calling off off,
let's call the whole thing off.

Quote:
Forty Days & Forty Nights
Muddy Waters
-------------------------------------------
Forty days and forty nights
Since my baby left this town
Sunshinin' all day long
But the rain keep comin' down
She's my life I need her so
Why she left I just don't know
Forty days and forty nights
Since I set right down and cried
Keep rainin' all the time
But the river is runnin' dry
Lord help me it just ain't right
I love that girl with all-a my might
Forty days and forty nights
Since my baby broke my heart
Searchin' for her in a while
Like a blind man in the dark
Love can make a poor man rich
Or break his heart I don't know which
Forty days and forty nights
Like a ship out on the sea
Prayin' for her each night
That she would come back-a home to me
Life is love and love is right
I hope she come back home tonight

I most assuredly remember that one, hbg, 'cause my mom really said toMAHtoes. Don't think anyone says poTAHtoes, however, but Dan Quail didn't know how to spell it. Razz

Your Muddy Waters song is a blues that I can't use right now, however. Let's get back to jumpin' with Fats, Canada.

They have a new expression along old Harlem way,
That tells you when a party is ten times more than gay:
To say that things are jumpin' leaves not a single doubt,
That everthing is in full swing when you hear someone shout.
Here 'tis:

The joint is jumpin',
It's really jumpin',
Come in, cats, and check your hats,
I mean this joint is jumpin'!

The piano's thumpin',
The dancers are bumpin',
This here spot is more than hot,
In fact, the joint is jumpin'!

Check your weapons at the door,
Be sure to pay your quarter,
Burn your leather on the floor,
Grab anybody's daughter.

The roof is rockin',
The neighbors knockin',
We're all bums when the wagon comes,
I mean, this joint is jumpin'!

[Spoken]
Let it be! Yas!
Burn this joint, boy!
Yas!
Oh, my! Yas!
Don't you hit that chick, that's my broad!
Where'd you get that stuff at?
Why, I'll knock you to your knees!
What?
Put this cat out of here!
What?
Get rid of that pistol! Get rid of that pistol! Yeah! Get rid of it, yas!
Yeah!
That's what I'm talkin' about! Ha, ha! Yas!
Now it's really ready!
No, baby, not now, I can't come over there right now.
Yeah, let's do it!
[Party noises and shouting]

The joint is jumpin',
It's really jumpin'!
Every Mose is on his toes,
I mean this joint is jumpin'!

[Police whistle]

Uh-oh! No time for talkin',
This place is walkin', yes,
Get your jug and cut the rug,
I think the joint is jumpin'.
Listen!

Get your pig feet, bread and gin,
There's plenty in the kitchen!
Who is that that just came in?
Just look at the way he's switchin'!

[Spoken]
Aw, mercy,
Don't mind the hour,
I'm in power.
I've got bail if we go to jail.
I mean this joint is jumpin'!
Don't give your right name, no, no, no, no!

I came so far for beauty left
So much behind
My patience and my family
My masterpiece unsigned
I thought Id be rewarded
For such a lonely choice
And surely she would answer
To such a very hopeless voice
I practiced all my sainthood
I gave to one and all
But the rumours of my virtue
They moved her not at all
I changed my style to silver
I changed my clothed to black
And where I would surrender
Now I would attack I stormed the old casino
For the money and the flesh and I myself decided
What was rotten and what was fresh
And men to do my bidding
And broken bones to teach
The value of my pardon
The shadow of my reach
But no, I could not touch her
With such a heavy hand
Her star beyond my order
Her nakedness unmanned
I came so far for beauty
I left so much behind
My patience and my family
My masterpiece unsigned

You know, edgar, I don't think Leonard wants to be understood. He may be to music, what T.S. Eliot is to poetry.

I was reading the news today about letters and videos from young men and women who had died in Iraq. One single thought struck my mind, and that was the paraphrase of "...war is curious..." and I immediately thought of Thomas Hardy and his understatement.

Poem for the evening, listeners.

The Man He Killed

Had he and I but met
By some old ancient inn,
We should have set us down to wet
Right many a nipperkin!

But ranged as infantry,
And staring face to face,
I shot at him as he at me,
And killed him in his place.

I shot him dead because--
Because he was my foe,
Just so: my foe of course he was;
That's clear enough; although

He thought he'd 'list, perhaps,
Off-hand like--just as I--
Was out of work--had sold his traps--
No other reason why.

Yes; quaint and curious war is!
You shoot a fellow down
You'd treat, if met where any bar is,
Or help to half a crown.

UNIVERSAL SOLDIER
Buffy Sainte-Marie
© Caleb Music-ASCAP

I wrote "Universal Soldier" in the basement of The Purple Onion coffee house in Toronto in the early sixties. It's about individual responsibility for war and how the old feudal thinking kills us all. Donovan had a hit with it in 1965.

He's five feet two and he's six feet four
He fights with missiles and with spears
He's all of 31 and he's only 17
He's been a soldier for a thousand years

He's a Catholic, a Hindu, an atheist, a Jain,
a Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew
and he knows he shouldn't kill
and he knows he always will
kill you for me my friend and me for you

And he's fighting for Canada,
he's fighting for France,
he's fighting for the USA,
and he's fighting for the Russians
and he's fighting for Japan,
and he thinks we'll put an end to war this way

And he's fighting for Democracy
and fighting for the Reds
He says it's for the peace of all
He's the one who must decide
who's to live and who's to die
and he never sees the writing on the walls

But without him how would Hitler have
condemned him at Dachau
Without him Caesar would have stood alone
He's the one who gives his body
as a weapon to a war
and without him all this killing can't go on

He's the universal soldier and he
really is to blame
His orders come from far away no more
They come from him, and you, and me
and brothers can't you see
this is not the way we put an end to war.

I'm The Man Who Murdered Love
XTC

I'm the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
I'm the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?

He was begging on his bended knee
For me to put him from his misery
He hadn't worked at all this century
Said I'd do a job for all humanity

I'm the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
I'm the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?

I put a bullet in his sugar head
He thanked me kindly
then he lay down dead
Phoney roses blossomed where he bled
Then all the cheering angels shook my
hand and said

I'm the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
I'm the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
Oh It's the middle of the song
I'm guilty
And then I turned and said

There'll be no more pain
from broken hearts
And no more lovers to be torn apart
Before you throw me
in your dungeon dark
Your honour, they'll be putting statues up
In every park

I'm the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
I'm the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?

So dear public I'm here to confess
That I'm the one who freed us from this mess
Love won't be calling at your address
'Cause what you've never had you'll never miss,
I guess

I'm the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?
I'm the man who murdered love
Yeah, what do you think to that?

If you never, ever use it
You know you're gonna lose it
If you never, ever kiss it
How you ever gonna miss it?

72 Bordello Street (Lovin' Me Is Gonna Break Your Heart)
Leggat

Look at you walking on air
Your feet don't touch the ground
Look at you with your waxen wings
Melting as you fall

But who's gonna pick up the broken pieces
Of the mirror that was your heart
Reflections of all your dreams
Will lay scattered all about

'Cause, lovin' me baby
Lovin' me baby
Lovin' me's gonna break your heart

Look at you lyin' there
Embracing a fantasy
Look at you slip into an illusion
Like a wave upon the sea

But your gonna wake up like a castaway
Shipwrecked on the beach
Lonely, hungry, thirstin'
For a love that's out of reach

'Cause, lovin' me baby
Lovin' me baby
Lovin' me's gonna break your heart

What can I say, what can I do
Tomorrow holds no dawn
For me and you
For me and you

Look at you smiling at me
A little girl who did her best for me
Look at you with your arms stretched out
A women who just can't see

That the man that's here, and the man you want
Has what it takes, but not what it's got
To tell that little girl
She's a women who just can't see that

Lovin' me baby
Lovin' me baby
Lovin' me's gonna break your heart

Lovin' me baby
Lovin' me baby
Lovin' me's gonna break your heart

It Never Rains In Southern California
Albert Hammond

Got on board a westbound 747
Didn't think before deciding what to do
Ooh, that talk of opportunities, TV breaks and movies
Rang true, sure rang true

Seems it never rains in southern California
Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before
It never rains in California, but girl don't they warn ya
It pours, man it pours

Out of work, I'm out of my head
Out of self respect, I'm out of bread
I'm underloved, I'm underfed, I wanna go home
It never rains in California, but girl don't they warn ya
It pours, man it pours

Will you tell the folks back home I nearly made it
Had offers but didn't know which one to take
Please don't tell 'em how you found me
Don't tell 'em how you found me
Gimme a break, give me a break

Seems it never rains in southern California
Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before
It never rains in California, but girl don't they warn ya
It pours, man it pours

Good morning, WA2K folks.

First, I would like to thank edgar and dj for their musical contributions. dj, as usual, your lyrics are poetic and always provoke those who are interested in the creative mind.

edgar, your "pouring" song is one that I know, Texas. I guess we are all drawn by the familiar, and often that is NOT a good thing.

Several things that appalled me as I read the news today(oh, boy).

Why would anyone want to exhume Harry Houdini's body to prove that he was murdered?

Why would a world exhibit a woman as a freak such as The Hottentot Venus?

Perhaps these quotes may explain it to some degree.

"The female is as it were a deformed male."

--Aristotle

"Distinguished women . . . are as exceptional as any

monstrosity . . . for example a gorilla with two heads."

--Le Bon (1879)

"Sir, a woman's composing music is like a dog walking on his hind

legs. It is not done well, but you are surprised to find it done at all."

--Cecil Gray (1928)

"It was certainly an odd monster that one made up by reading the

historians first and the poets afterwards--[woman as] a worm winged like

an eagle; the spirit of life and beauty in a kitchen chopping up suet."

--Virginia Woolf (1929)

"Wouldn't the worst be, isn't the worst, in truth, that women aren't castrated, that they

have only to stop listening to the Sirens (for the Sirens were men) for history to

change its meaning? You only have to look at the Medusa straight on to see her.

And she's not deadly. She's beautiful and she's laughing."

--Hélène Cixous (1976)

And that, folks, is my op ed for the early morning.

Hey, hbg. My country cousins sang that song, Canada. I want to match your Sue song, and Sioux City comes to mind along with misheard lyrics of my mom. She used to play and sing a song called Was That Somebody you, and I thought she was saying, "Was that Sunbonnet Sue." Razz

There is also a song called Seattle Sue, but all I could find was a weird one by Nirvana called "Frances Farmer Sues Seattle".

Soooooo, folks, let's hear this one co-written by Sue Ennis and it is really odd:

Bebe Le Strange

Its got to be you reading my letter
Not your hired hand
I dont know how to say it no better
I love you and the band

Never heard rockin like you could
Howling like you can
It gets me thinking of johnny b. goode
But you know you aint no man

When I heard you play I knew your
Name should be changed
Were all dog panicked and you are to blame
Everybody ought to call you
Bebe le strange
You look so insane
We gave you a name
Bebe le strange

I wish I knew what youre really like
A touch so shy and fine
But the way you move with that guitar
Just gives me other signs

Heres my number give me a sign
Call me back if this gets through
Bebe, bebe, bebe, bebe
Id never say no to you

When I heard your song I knew your
Name should be changed
Everybody ought to call you
Bebe le strange
Under my skin youve got my mind
Rearranged
Youre so insane
Bebes so strange
Bebe le strange

Now, folks, I do NOT intend to edit songs from the web, so correct the mistakes in your mind.

Well, there's our Raggedy, folks, with her trio of famous folks. Thanks again, PA.

We're looking at Conchata, Ken, and Dianne.

Hmmm. Afraid that I don't recall Conchata but I remember Edward Scissorhands. Always loved Johnny Depp, but I never understood that movie. Dianne Wiest was in that one, too.

Aha, puppy. Now 1776 I recall quite well, because Bud played bass in the stage band for a little theater performance.

You all know, of course, what I intend to play. Razz

Song: Lees of Old Virginia Lyrics

My name is Richard Henry Lee; Virginia is my home
My name is Richard Henry Lee; Virginia is my home
And my horses turn to glue if I can't deliver
Unto you a resolution on independency!

For I am FFV, the first family
In the sovereign colony of Virginia
Yes I am FFV, the oldest family
in the oldest colony in America
And may the British burn my land if I can't deliver
To your hand a resolution on independency!

You see it's here-a-Lee, there-a-Lee
And everywhere-a-Lee-a-Lee

Social-Lee, political-Lee, financial-Lee, natural-Lee
Internal-Lee, external-Lee, fraternal-Lee, eternal-Lee

The FFV, the first family
In the sovereign colony of Virginia
And may my wife refuse my bed if I can't deliver
As I said a resolution on independency

They say that God in heaven is everybody's God
I'll admit that God in heaven is everybody's God
But I tell you, John, with pride, God leans
A little on the side of the Lees, the Lees of old Virgina!

You see it's here-a-Lee, there-a-Lee
And everywhere-a-Lee-a-Lee
Here-a-Lee, there-a-Lee
And everywhere-a-Lee

Look out! There's Arthur Lee, Bobby Lee
And General Lighthorse Harry Lee
Willy Lee, Jesse Lee

Franklin:
And Richard H.!
Lee:
That's me!
And may my blood stop running blue if I can't deliver
Unto you a resolution on independency!

Yes sir, by God, it's here-a-Lee, there-a-Lee
Come on boys join in with me!
Here-a-Lee, there-a-Lee!

Franklin:
When do you leave?
Lee:
Immediate-Lee!
Here-a-Lee, there-a-Lee!
Franklin:
When will you return?
Lee:
Short-Lee!
Here-a-Lee, there-a-Lee!
And I'll come back triumphant-Lee!
Here-a-Lee, there-a-Lee!
Everywhere a-Lee-a-Lee

Forward ho!

Love it!

Very Happy Good song.

I remember Conchata best in Mystic Pizza which gave Julia Roberts her big movie break.
