Sorry that I stretched the thread with my photos.

When I hear Michel Legrand's name, the first song I think of is the one sung in "The Thomas Crown Affair", the one with McQueen and Dunaway:

Music by Michel Legrand
Lyrics by Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman

Round,
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel,
Never ending or beginning,
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain,
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Spinning silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind!

Like a tunnel that you follow
To a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
In a half-forgotten dream
Like the ripples from a pebble
Someone tosses in a stream.
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Spinning silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind!

Keys that jingle in your pocket
Words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly?
Was it something that I said?
Lovers walk along a shore
And leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand?
Pictures hanging in a hallway
or the fragment of a song,
half-remembered names and faces
but to whom do they belong?
When you knew that it was over
Were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the color of her hair?

Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

It was Rex Harrison's son, Noel, who sang it in the movie.

Wow! Raggedy. I had no idea that Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway did that originally. Well, folks, live and learn here on our wee radio. The only one that I saw was with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Love that song, PA.

Well, I do know that my son is getting better when he and my daughter get in an argument over some computer game. Razz

Dedication time, listeners.

For Diane and dys:

What Are You Doing the Rest Of Your Life?

-Music by Michel Legrand lyrics by Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman

I want to see your face in every kind of light
In fields of dawn and forests of the night
And when you stand before the candles on a cake
Oh, let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make

What are you doing the rest of your life?
North and South and East and West of your life
I have only one request of your life
That you spend it all with me

All the seasons and the times of your days
All the nickels and the dimes of your days
Let the reasons and the rhymes of your days
All begin and end with me

I want to see your face in every kind of light
In the fields of dawn and the forests of the night
And when you stand before the candles on a cake
Oh, let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make

Those tomorrows waiting deep in your eyes
In the world of love that you keep in your eyes
I'll awaken what's asleep in your eyes
It may take a kiss or two

Through all of my life
Summer, Winter, Spring, and Fall of my life
All I ever will recall of my life
Is all of my life with you

Ah, folks. It's good to see our cowboy smiling. Love it, dys.

Just the other day we were discussing weird commercials, and now I recall one that I still don't get. It's the Robert Goulet one. Confused

The product was some kind of nuts so let's listen to one that our cowboy played a long time ago.

Sitting by the roadside on a summer's day
Chatting with my mess-mates, passing time away
Lying in the shadows underneath the trees
Goodness, how delicious, eating goober peas.

Peas, peas, peas, peas
Eating goober peas
Goodness, how delicious,
Eating goober peas.

When a horse-man passes, the soldiers have a rule
To cry out their loudest, "Mister, here's your mule!"
But another custom, enchanting-er than these
Is wearing out your grinders, eating goober peas.

Peas, peas, peas, peas
Eating goober peas
Goodness, how delicious,
Eating goober peas.

Just before the battle, the General hears a row
He says "The Yanks are coming, I hear their rifles now."
He looks down the roadway, and what d'ya think he sees?
The Georgia Militia cracking goober peas.

Peas, peas, peas, peas
Eating goober peas
Goodness, how delicious,
Eating goober peas.

I think my song has lasted just about enough.
The subject is interesting, but the rhymes are mighty rough.
I wish the war was over, so free from rags and fleas
We'd kiss our wives and sweethearts, say good-bye to goober peas.

Peas, peas, peas, peas
Eating goober peas
Goodness, how delicious,
Eating goober peas.

And here is a link so that we may really hear it:

In the chilly hours and minutes,
Of uncertainty, I want to be,
In the warm hold of your loving mind.

To feel you all around me,
And to take your hand, along the sand,
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

When sundown pales the sky,
I wanna hide a while, behind your smile,
And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find.

For me to love you now,
Would be the sweetest thing, 'twould make me sing,
Ah, but I may as well, try and catch the wind.

When rain has hung the leaves with tears,
I want you near, to kill my fears
To help me to leave all my blues behind.

For standin' in your heart,
Is where I want to be, and I long to be,
Ah, but I may as well, try and catch the wind.

Those lyrics are like poetry, dys. I read them a couple of times. Thanks again, buddy. Your lyrical song reminded me of this poem that I often think about "...in vacant or in pensive mood..."

WHO HAS SEEN THE WIND ?
BY: CHRISTINA ROSSETTI

Who has seen the wind?

Neither I nor you:

But when the leaves hang trembling

The wind is passing thro'

Who has seen the wind?

Neither you nor I:

But when the trees bow down their heads

The wind is passing by.

Beautiful compression, folks

Found a retro song that was redone by George Harrison, and I shall be back later to play it.

good afternoon from canada !
it's still cold here on the shores of eastern lake ontario - still haven't made it above freezing today !
but the sun is shining brightly , the squirrels are starting their nest-building and some birds are chirping away - already saw some cardinals in our yard - spring surely will come before too long .
in the meantime , here is a canadian folksong for you to enjoy .
hbg

Land of the silver birch - Home of the beaver
----------------------------------------------------

My paddle's keen and bright
Flashing with silver
Follow the wild goose flight
Dip, dip and swing
Dip, dip and swing her back
Flashing with silver
Swift as the wild goose flies
Dip, dip and swing

Land of the silver birch
Home of the beaver
Where still the mighty moose
Wanders at will
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, bo-oo-oom

High on a rocky ledge
I¹ll build my wigwam
Close to the water¹s edge
Silent and still
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, bo-oo-oom

My heart grows sick for thee
Here in the lowlands
I will return to thee hills of the north
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, bo-oo-oom

Land of the silver birch
Home of the beaver
Where still the mighty moose
Wanders at will
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, Boom-diddy-ah-da, bo-oo-oom

hbg, it's good to see and hear you once more, Canada. I love a birch tree, and the silver ones are as pretty as the quaking aspen. I recall a wonderful poem by Robert Frost(that's the right name for your lake) called "Birches", and the imagery is perfect; however, since I wanted to play that retro song by George Harrison, with your permission and that of the beaver and the moose, I shall.

This song was written by Hoagy Carmichel, and sung by the long ago Beatle:

It's the story of a very unfortunate coloured man
Who got arrested down in old Hong Kong
He got twenty years' privilege taken away from him
When he kicked old Buddha's gong

And now he's poppin' the piano just to raise the
price
Of a ticket to the land of the free
Well, he says his home's in 'Frisco where they
send the rice
But it's really in Tennessee

That's why he says
I need someone to love me
Need somebody to carry me home to San
Francisco
And bury my body there
I need someone to lend me a fifty-dollar bill
and then
I'll leave Hong Kong far behind me
For happiness once again

Won't somebody believe
I've a yen to see that Bay again
Everytime I try to leave
Sweet opium won't let me fly away
I need someone to love me
Need somebody to carry me home to San
Francisco
And bury my body there

That's the story of a very unfortunate coloured man
Who got arrested down in old Hong Kong
He got twenty years' privilege taken away from him
When he kicked old Buddha's gong.

Too Much Heaven
The Bee Gees

Nobody gets too much heaven no more
It's much harder to come by
I'm waiting in line
Nobody gets too much love anymore
It's as high as a mountain
And harder to climb

Oh, you and me girl
Got a lot of love in store
And it flows through you
And it flows through me
And I love you so much more then my life
I can see beyond forever
Ev'rything we are will never die
Love is such a beautiful thing
Oh, you make my world a summer day
Are you just a dream to fade away

Nobody gets too much heaven no more
It's much harder to come by
I'm waiting in line
Nobody gets too much love anymore
It's as high as a mountain
And harder to climb

You and me girl got a highway to the sky
We can turn away from the night and day
And the tears you had to cry
You're my life
I can see a new tomorrow
Ev'rything we are will never die
Love is such a beautiful thing
When you are to me, the light above
Made for all to see our presious love

Nobody gets too much heaven no more
It's much harder to come by
I'm waiting in line
Nobody gets too much love anymore
It's as high as a mountain
And harder to climb

Love is such a beautiful thing
You make my world a summer day
Are you just a dream to fade

Nobody gets too much heaven no more
It's much harder to come by
I'm waiting in line
Nobody gets too much love anymore
It's as wide as a river
And harder to cross

Nobody gets too much heaven no more
It's much harder to come by
I'm waiting in line
Nobody gets too much love anymore
It's as high as a mountain
And harder to climb

Bee Gees-Odessa

Fourteenth of february , eighteen ninety nine.
The british ship veronica was lost without a sign.
Baa baa black sheep, you haven't any wool.
Captain richardson left himself a lonely wife in hull.

Cherub, i lost a ship in the baltic sea.
I'm on an iceberg running free.
Sitting, filing this berg to the shape of a ship;
Sailing my way back to your lips.
One passing ship gave word that you have moved out of your old flat.
You love the vicar more then words can say.
Tell him to pray that i won't melt away.
And i'll see your face again .

Odessa, how strong am i?
Odessa , how time goes by.

Treasure , you know the neighbours that live next door.
They haven't got their dog anymore.
Freezing, sailing around in the north atlantic.
Can't seem to leave the sea anymore.
I just can't understand why you just moved to finland.
You love that vicar more then words can say.
Ask him to pray that i won't melt away.
And i'll see your face again.

Odessa, how strong am i?
Odessa, how time goes by.

Fourteenth of february , eighteen ninety nine.
The british ship veronica was lost without a sign.

Hey, dys and edgar. Thanks for the Bee Gee songs. Unusual to hear them, y'all. The following is inspired by John of Virginia's topic, "Did you Know."

¿Usted sabe?

English translation:

Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to?
Do you know?
Do you get what you're hoping for?
When you look behind you there's no open door
What are you hoping for?
Do you know?

Once we were standing still in time
Chasing the fantasies that filled our minds
You knew how I loved you, but my spirit was free
Laughing at the questions that you once asked of me

Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to?
Do you know?

Now looking back at all we've had
We let so many dreams just slip through our hands
Why must we wait so long before we see
How sad the answers to those questions can be?

Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to?
Do you know?
Do you get what you're hoping for?
When you look behind you there's no open door
What are you hoping for?
Do you know?

as i was posting this i noticed ms letty's song

a sort of synchronisity in the themes

Long Gone Long
The Rainmakers

Older than I used to be, younger than I'm gonna be
Fewer things puzzle me than when I was young
But when my pace is falling slack
I catch myself thinking back
a certain night, a certain summer
Long gone long

August she was swinging low
Town of about a thousand-so
Out of school, ready to get out of here
Off to farm, off to State, each going our separate ways
Graduation message still sweet in our ears

Oh oh oh, clocks are slow
Hearts beat on
Long gone long

Got into a car that night
Drove out past the signal light
Past the city limits, guess it wasn't that far
Stopped out on a rural route
Gooch got out his .22
Shooting at a freight train that was hauling new cars

Drinking underneath the stars
Watching counting meteors
Robert said you know those fell a hundred years ago
The light is just now reaching earth
I said man for what it's worth
I think you are wrong and you really don't know

Oh oh oh, clocks are slow
Hearts beat on
Long gone long

Is something going on, I tell you nothing's going on
Nothing's going on, going on, going on
Is something going on, I tell you nothing's going on
Nothing's going on, going on

Goodbye to the home team, goodbye to the rinky-dinks
Goodbye to a girl, down my street heading home
She stepped out from behind a tree, tears running down her cheeks
Goodbye to more than either of us could have known

Oh oh oh, clocks are slow
Hearts beat on
Long gone long

Information
The Rainmakers

Do you know your daughter well and do you know she's dreaming
Do you know your daughter well, talk to her soon
Do you know your daughter well and do you know she's dreaming
You know as well as I she stays higher than the moon

And do you know your sister well and did you know she's drinking
Do you know your sister well, talk to her soon
Do you know your sister well, you know I think she's losing
You know as well as I she stays higher than the moon

Thanks for the information
Thanks but no thanks for the information
Thanks but no thanks for the information
'Cause information's got your number too

And do you know your brother well and the company he's keeping
Do you know your brother well, talk to him tonight
Do you know your brother well, he's very very strange they tell
Probably he'll go to hell unless you steer him right

Thanks for the information
Thanks but no thanks for the information
Thanks but no thanks for the information
'Cause information's got your number too

Well yes I know my daughter well and yes I know she's dreaming
Yes I know my sister well, that's the way it goes
I know my sister all too well, yes I know she's drinking
How do I bitch at her for something she already knows?

And yes I know my brother well and the company he's keeping
Yes I know my brother well, he sings a different tune
Yes I know my brother well, I've heard it said he's queer as hell
Pray that he's in love as well, higher than the moon

Thanks for the information

Wow, dj. We could tell our listeners that your timing was coincidental, but I much prefer synchronicity. Love those songs by the Rainmakers. Can you send them down here? Razz

Here's another "question song".

BIF NAKED LYRICS

"The Question Song"

Busted! And I can't believe I trusted, implicitly.
And I lusted for reality.
I got rusted anxiety.

[Chorus]
Come on. You can tell me.
Stop yanking my chain.
I know you are hiding everything.
Do you know what I mean?
Do you know what I know?
Yeah you better believe it.
Do you see what I see?
Do you understand me?
Baby, are you feeling me?

Tell me. How do you sleep?
In your bed of true deceit.
Are you hungry?
Hungry for me?
Or is it just conditioning?

[Chorus]

great voices and wonderful songs !
hbg

Working Man
---------------
Chorus
It's a working man l am
And I've been down under ground
And I swear to God if l ever see the sun
Or for any length of time
I can hold it in my mind
I never again will go down under ground

At the age of sixteen years
Oh he quarrels with his peers
Who vowed they'd never see another one
In the dark recess of the mines
Where you age before your time
And the coal dust lies heavy on your lungs

Chorus

At the age of sixty-four
Oh he'll greet you at the door
And he'll gently lead you by the arm
Through the dark recess of the mines
Oh he'll take you back in time
And he'll tell you of the hardships that were had

Hamburger,That is a tale that is still being told and sung, buddy. I will bet that the Men of the Deeps is really something to hear. Thanks, Canada.

Here's a matching song by Miss top heavy herself. <smile>

Dark as a Dungeon lyrics by DOLLY PARTON

Come and listen you fellows
So young and do fine
And seek not your fortune
In the dark, dreary mines
It will form as a habit
Seep in your soul
'Til the blood in your veins
Runs as black as the coal

There's many a man
That I've known in my day
Who lived just to labor
His whole life away

Like a fiend with his dope
And a drunkard his wine
A man will have lust for
The lure of the mine

It's dark as a dungeon
Damp as the dew
The danger is double
And the pleasures are few

Where the rain never falls
Where the sun never shines
It's dark as a dungeon
Way down in the mine

I hope when I'm gone
And the ages shall roll
My body will blacken
And turn into coal

Then I'll look out the door
Of my heavenly home
And I'll pity the miners
A-diggin' my bones

It's dark as a dungeon
Damp as the dew
The danger is double
And the pleasures are few

Where the rain never falls
Where the sun never shines
It's dark as a dungeon
Way down in the mine

Where the rain never falls
Where the sun never shines
It's dark as a dungeon
Way down in the mine.

Question of the day. Are diamonds not made from coal?

Teenage Dirtbag
Wheatus

Her name is Noelle
I had a dream about her
She rings my bell
I got gym class in half an hour

Oh how she rocks
In Keds and tube socks
But she doesn't know who I am
And she doesn't give a damn about me

Cause I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
Yeah I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
Listen to Iron Maiden baby with me
Ooohoooooo

Her boyfriend's a dick
He brings a gun to school
And he'd simply kick
My ass if he knew the truth

He lives on my block
He drives an Iroc
But he doesn't know who I am
And he doesn't give a damn about me...

Cause i'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
Yeah i'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
listen to Iron Maiden baby with me
Ooohoooooo

Oh yeah dirtbag
No, she doesn't know what she's missing.
Oh yeah dirtbag
No, she doesn't know what she's missing.

Man I feel like mold
It's prom night and I am lonely.
Lo and behold
She's walking over to me.

This must be fake
My lip starts to shake.
How does she know who I am?
And why does she give a damn about me?

<sung in falsetto>
I've got two tickets to Iron Maiden baby
Come with me Friday - don't say maybe.
I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
like you
Ooohoo Hoo Hooooooo"

Oh yeah dirtbag
No, she doesn't know what she's missing.
Oh yeah dirtbag
No, she doesn't know what she's missing...

Hilarious, dj. Where's that turtleman? It's Saturday night and he claims that is the signal for get down and dirty. Love it! Well, don't coal miners get down and get dirty? Razz

Keyshia Cole - Down And Dirty Lyrics
[Chorus]
I want to get you, want to get
Let's go and get down and dirty
Baby play the game, play my way
But either way it's all the same baby

I want to get you, want to get
Let's go and get down and dirty
Baby play the game, play my way
But either way it's all the same baby

[Verse 1]
You're the type of guy to drive a girl wild
And you're the type of guy to make a girl smile
Boy you've got me tripping deep down inside, and all these
feelings for you that I have I can't hide
People say, don't get down with you, but I know how I feel for
you
Though I may deny it, I'm digging you and that's how I...

[Chorus]
I want to get you, want to get
Let's go and get down and dirty
Baby play the game, play my way
But either way it's all the same baby

There aint no way, they can make me think I should go away
I've been around you baby everyday
And the song I sing, every word I mean cuz I cant stop something
sent from above
Baby don't stop your touch, I could never get enough
Sweetie feel me up, with your precious love cuz that's how I
want to get down

Say My Name
Wes Cunningham

I know what it is you think of me
Your words get around so easily
I hear that you say I'm immature
And that I don't think of my future

But I think your beautiful
Yeah, and I think your smart
I think your so graceful
When you break my heart
Yeah, when you break my heart

Tell all the lies you want behind my back
Throw all my letter in the garbage sack
Borrow may car and never give it back
Just say my name

Write all about me in the bathroom stall
Take all my cd's and destroy them all
Throw my picture at the bedroom wall
Just say my name

I don't do the things you think I should
Because you say I don't listen good
Well now I suppose it might be true
'Cause I just like watching your lips move

But I think your perfect
Yeah, I think your sweet
Oh, I think your so sexy
When you throw me out on the street
Yeah, you threw me out now

Tell all the lies you want behind my back
Throw all my letter in the garbage sack
Borrow may car and never give it back
Just say my name

Write all about me in the bathroom stall
Take all my cd's and destroy them all
Throw my picture at the bedroom wall

here's one for the turtle

Let's Kill Saturday Night
Robbie Fulks

Well every dollar I make
Is a buck I owe
And a 40-hour week
Leaves 10 to blow
But every game in this town
Is just a nickel-and-dime
And when the sun goes down
It feels like the last time

So down the main drag we ride with the engines open
If there's a fire inside, it's the one thing going

I've got the Mustang loaded
I've got a wrong to right
I've got a little red bullet
Let's kill Saturday night.
Knock it out of its misery
Nail that coffin tight
High living that's history
Let's kill Saturday night.

Well the little man's lot
Is a prince's life
A prince with a lousy job
A prince with a working wife
Something in the big frame's moved
Oh, it never was so hard
To keep a 20 inch tube
And a fenced-in yard

But give me one night with the moon high and the radio pounding
And, brother, this town's gonna go down kicking and shouting.

I've got the Mustang loaded
I've got a wrong to right
I've got a little red bullet
Let's kill Saturday night.
Knock it out of its misery
Nail that coffin tight
High living that's history
Let's kill Saturday night.
