TTH, Welcome to our wee cyber station, gal. The nice part of our radio thread is that you don't have to read all the stuff, just dedicate a song to someone, or play one that you like. We are attempting to make it like an actual radio station.

There's our Raggedy, folks, with her fabulous photo's. Know two of them, PA. There's Robert and Drew

Since Drew Barrymore played in the movie Firestarter adapted for filmdom from the book by Stephen King, let's listen to this one.

Artist: Prodigy Lyrics
Song: Firestarter

I'm the trouble starter, punkin' instigator
I'm the fear addicted, danger illustrated

I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter
You're the firestarter, twisted firestarter
I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter

I'm the bitch you hated, filth infatuated - yeah
I'm the pain you tasted, well intoxicated

I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter
You're the firestarter, twisted firestarter

I'm the self inflicted, mind detonator - yeah
I'm the one infected, twisted animator

I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter
You're the firestarter, twisted firestarter
I'm a firestarter, twisted firestarter

Thank you Letty,
I do have a song but, I have to find the words to it. I actually was invited to a radio station here where I live. It was a talk show. The radio station was serious sometimes but mostly comical. They often have different guest speakers.

I got there early and was waiting in the waiting room. There were other people around. Then a guy walked up to me and said "Hi, I guess you are waiting for me?". I said "I do not know, who are you?" He then said "oh, I am #######, the host." People around me gave me dirty looks. I felt real stupid and Embarrassed Embarrassed because I guess I should have known who he was. I never met the guy before so I did not know what he looked like. He did not even mention it. It was like it did not phase him one bit. I thought that was real nice because I was still getting the dirty looks with heads shaking from people there. I just ignored them.

The day I was there I actually had to put my hands over my mouth to keep from laughing. If I said anything or laughed it would have been heard over the air.
That day was hilarious. The subject material was real but the person (guest speaker) was just weird and the radio people just went with it. The guest speaker was back east so it was done via phone.
It was still really funny without being insulting to the person.

Well, TTH, I have been in that same situation. Disc jockeys and radio hosts often feel they are above reproach. Thanks for the great anecdote. You are a welcome addition to our wee station.

Here's one for you by Madonna:

Promise To Try

Little girl don't you forget her face
Laughing away your tears
When she was the one who felt all the pain

Little girl never forget her eyes
Keep them alive inside
I promise to try -- it's not the same

Keep your head held high -- ride like the wind
Never look behind, life isn't fair
That's what you said, so I try not to care

Little girl don't run away so fast
I think you forgot to kiss -- kiss her goodbye

Will she see me cry when I stumble and fall
Does she hear my voice in the night when I call
Wipe away all your tears, it's gonna be all right

I fought to be so strong, I guess you knew
I was afraid you'd go away, too

Little girl you've got to forget the past
And learn to forgive me
I promise to try -- but it feels like a lie

Don't let memory play games with your mind
She's a faded smile frozen in time
I'm still hanging on -- but I'm doing it wrong
Can't kiss her goodbye -- but I promise to try

Letty,
I hope you do not mind but I thought there was 1 more verse to that song.

It went something like this:

It is a lie, you lied to me,
It does not have to be,
No should have to "act",
Life is not fair but people can change that,

Absolutely do not mind, TTH. We love to get corrections here.

Thinking about fight songs from universities, folks. Here's one that I used to love when I dated a guy from here:

Washington and Lee
"Washington and Lee Swing"

Come cheer for Washington and Lee,
We're going to win another victory!
The White and Blue we will ever wave in triumph
For the University. RAH! RAH! RAH!
Fight to the finish we are with you,
Break through the line on every play;
Rush the ball on down the field
And we will win this game today.

When Washington and Lee's men fall in line,
We're going to win again another time;
For W&L I yell, I yell, I yell,
And for the University, I yell, like hell!
And we will fight! fight! fight! for every yard;
Circle the ends and hit that line right hard!
And we will roll those Wahoos on the sod!
Yes, by God! RAH! RAH! RAH!
HEY!

fightsong of the students at "queen's university " .
since we live less than a mile from the stadium , we can hear it loud and clear when the students come back to town in september .
hbg

Quote:
The university anthem and fight song is "Queen's College Colours," but it is almost universally called the "Oil Thigh" after words in the Gaelic chorus. Students and alumni sing the song at football games and other events, usually performing it with a low-kicking can-can dance. The tune is the same as The Battle Hymn of the Republic. (Main article: Oil Thigh)

The "modern version" of the song is as follows:

The Oil Thigh

Chorus:
Oil thigh na Banrighinn a'Banrighinn gu brath!
Oil thigh na Banrighinn a'Banrighinn gu brath!
Oil thigh na Banrighinn a'Banrighinn gu brath!
Cha-Gheill! Cha-Gheill! Cha-Gheill! (pronounced Kay-Ya, Kay-Ya, Kay-ya)

Sing!

Queen's College colours we are wearing once again,
Soiled as they are by the battle and the rain,
Yet another victory to wipe away the stain,
So, Gaels go in and win!

and the "marching band" does its best to entertain us while we are sitting in the garden !

Fantastic, hamburger. Of course, every high school girl wanted to date a football hero. Now, Cananda, I would have to be paid to go to a football game. Razz I know all the college and university fight songs, but somehow, I'm too lazy to look up the words.

Here ya go, listeners. I'll hum a few bars of one.

hum hum hum hum hum hum hum. Recognize that?

A song from A.F.I. (whoever that is)

I wanna be a highschool football hero.
With an S.A.T. score less than zero. I wanna
try to drink my weight in beer-o. I wanna be a highschool football hero.
I wanna score a touchdown so I can score after the game.
I don't care about my future 'cause it is just another day.
I'll rush for forty yards and drink four forties later on. I'm done with
this brunette someone pass me another blonde.
Coach tells me to drink my milk and wash it down with 'roids.
I've gotta get my rest so I can
party with the boys.
My brain is upside-down, so I'm just a little slow.
I'll change my name to
Bubba so that everyone will know...

Love it!

Till I Waltz Again With You
Teresa Brewer

[Words and Music by Sidney Prosen]

Till I waltz again with you
Let no other hold your charms
If my dreams should all come true
You'll be waiting for my arms

Till I kiss you once agin
Keep my love locked in your heart
Darling, I'll return and then
We will never have to part

Though it may break your heart and mine
The minute when it's time to go
Remember Dear, each word divine
That meant I love you so

Till I waltz again with you
Just the way we are tonight
I will keep my promise true
For you are my guiding light

Till I waltz again with you
Keep my love locked in your heart
Darling, I'll return and then
We will never have to part
Though it may break your heart and mine
The minute when it's time to go
Remember Dear, each word divine
That meant I love you so

Till I waltz again with you
Just the way we are tonight
I will keep my promise true
For you are my guiding light
My light, my light
I will keep my promise true
Till I waltz again with you

letty :
we don't have to go to the game to know "how the battle goes " .
sitting in the garden we can hear the cheers , the groans and the band .
and when the game is over the students march proudly back to the university - sometimes even with the band ahead .
however , if they lost , they all go back rather quietly - without the band playing  .

I know, hamburger. I just get fed up with big time competition. Someone always loses, Canada. It used to be in America that what was good for big business, was good for the American people. Then came the trickle down economics. Rolling Eyes But I understand what you are saying, buddy.

Hey, edgar, did I hear a waltz?

Bruce Springsteen

Two Hearts In True Waltz Time

Well the first frame finds her running
But the night pushes her deep within the tunnel
She camouflages herself in dayglo paint
And she sings her love songs through a funnel
And she clings to the walls like a cat who calls
The shots for life and for death
Wearing nothing but the make-up she uses
To try and cover up for herself
Well if she can't hide her sword
She gives no terms for surrender
'Cause she's living the Third World War

The Tunnel Police, they steadily increase
The search for where she hides her kid
She swings on a vine across the State Line
they measured the length of her skid
She never goes back to do something she didn't
Or undo something she did
Smoke streams from the street
And the night is complete
With a long and fiery belch
She's just another Orphan Annie cartoon and a Raquel Welch

She rides like Caesar, brandishing a whip
On the hood of his squad car
As the siren wails she silently sails
Leaving footprints in the tar
Oh she breaks with the dawn
And by morning she's gone
Leaving nothing but another night
She returns to her home
Like a dog returns to a bone
Another unsatisfied wife

And there's little Booth
Secure from the truth
He wants her more than he's got the guts to say
'Cause as she needs to be real
He needs to conceal
The realness of his place
So he sings a little song
And in a chiffon sarong
She performs a black ballet in space
But she's another flop with a fancy name
And he's just another cop with a pretty face
So together they commit the ultimate crime
Two hearts locked in true waltz time

Take This Waltz

Now in vienna theres ten pretty women
Theres a shoulder where death comes to cry
Theres a lobby with nine hundred windows
Theres a tree where the doves go to die
Theres a piece that was torn from the morning
And it hangs in the gallery of frost
Ay, ay, ay, ay
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Take this waltz with the clamp on its jaws

Oh I want you, I want you, I want you
On a chair with a dead magazine
In the cave at the tip of the lily
In some hallways where loves never been
On a bed where the moon has been sweating
In a cry filled with footsteps and sand
Ay, ay, ay, ay
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Take its broken waist in your hand

This waltz, this waltz, this waltz, this waltz
With its very own breath of brandy and death
Dragging its tail in the sea

Theres a concert hall in vienna
Where your mouth had a thousand reviews
Theres a bar where the boys have stopped talking
Theyve been sentenced to death by the blues
Ah, but who is it climbs to your picture
With a garland of freshly cut tears?
Ay, ay, ay, ay
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Take this waltz its been dying for years

Theres an attic where children are playing
Where Ive got to lie down with you soon
In a dream of hungarian lanterns
In the mist of some sweet afternoon
And Ill see what youve chained to your sorrow
All your sheep and your lilies of snow
Ay, ay, ay, ay
Take this waltz, take this waltz
With its Ill never forget you, you know!

This waltz, this waltz, this waltz, this waltz ...

And Ill dance with you in vienna
Ill be wearing a rivers disguise
The hyacinth wild on my shoulder,
My mouth on the dew of your thighs
And Ill bury my soul in a scrapbook,
With the photographs there, and the moss
And Ill yield to the flood of your beauty
My cheap violin and my cross
And youll carry me down on your dancing
To the pools that you lift on your wrist
Oh my love, oh my love
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Its yours now. its all that there is.

Hi sweet Letty. How about some Joe Jackson? He sings of New Orleans and I think of hurricanes. They are still in bad shape and I'll bet you still haven't received anything from FEMA for the hurricane that devastated your house--how many years ago?

Two in the morning there's a drink in my hand
(Dirt, dirt, dirty Martini)
Nothing moving the place but sweat
I heard a rumour 'bout a Cajun band
(Dirt, dirt, dirty Martini)
The bartender says it's early yet
Wait the bartender says it's early yet
Too many olives in too much gin
Steppin' out in the City of Sin
Too much dirty rice and too many beans
Gettin' down and dirty down in New Orleans
Gettin' down and dirty down in New Orleans
Have another, i believe i will
(Dirt, dirt, dirty Martini)
And you can stir it with a dirty spoon
There's a perscription i've gotta fill
(Dirt, dirt, dirty Martini)
And the Doctor's gonna be here soon
Jimmy says the Doctor's gonna be here soon
Too many olives in too much gin
Steppin' out in the City of Sin
Too much dirty rice and too many beans
Gettin' down and dirty down in New Orleans
Gettin' down and dirty down in New Orleans

hey, edgar. Just like Cohen to say, "Take this waltz and shove it." Love it. Thanks, Texas.

Diane, Welcome back, honey. You're right. No money from FEMA, and not likely to get it. Thanks, gal, for the Joe Jackson song. When I think of the displaced people in New Orleans, I am just glad I have a roof. (but you ought to see my yard)

My word, hamburger. That is a marvelous translation of Strauss' Danube. Frankly, buddy, I like the way men dressed during that time period, but I like a man in jeans just as well.

How about a little two step. (have no idea what kinda dance that is) This is by the Dave Matthews band.

Two Step

Say, my love, I came to you with best intentions
You laid down and gave to me just what I'm seeking
Love, you drive me to distraction
Hey my love do you believe that we might last a thousand years
Or more if not for this,
our flesh and blood
It ties you and me right up
Tie me down
Celebrate we will
Because life is short but sweet for certain
We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue
These things we cannot change
Hey, my love, you came to me like wine comes to this mouth
Grown tired of water all the time
You quench my heart and love, you quench my mind
Celebrate we will
Because life is short but
sweet for certain
We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue
The things we cannot
Celebrate, you and me, climbing two by two, to be sure
these days continue, things we cannot change
Oh, my love I came to you
with best intentions
You laid down and gave to me
just what I'm seeking
Celebrate we will
Because life is short
but sweet for certain
We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue
Things we cannot change...
Things we cannot change

listening to a crazy brittish radio comedy from the early 80's

they did a segment on a brittish pop group, the hee bee gee bee's

the well-known trio of Norris, Dobbin and Garry Cribb

here's one of their hit songs

the golden waves of golden sun
fall on your golden hair
and i brush aside the golden sheets
and see you golden there

and i wonder what you and i
are going to do all day
cause i can't think of anything
i want to do or say
so i'll have to do
what i did yesterday

and sing you
meaningless songs
in very high voices
with a thousand violins

meaningless songs
in very high voices
and some very tight jeans

meaningless songs
in very high voices
and <high pitched scream>
what ever that means

the world is very, very large
and butter is better than marg
and love is better than hate
and the world is very, very big
and bacon comes from a pig

so i'll sing you
meaningless songs
in very high voices
and then a little scream

meaningless songs
in very high voices
it's like a phone when it rings

meaningless songs
in very high voices
and then the record ends

and when it does we simply start to...

<ends with crazy wailing and moaning, and the lines meaningless songs, in very high voices repeated over and over>>

Meaningless songs in very high voices? That's the kind of song we love to hate, dj., but the line "butter is better than marg" ain't meaningless if you want to have heart, soooo back to the diamond, folks:

Coach:
[Spoken]
See boys, that's what I'm talking about. Baseball is only one half skill, the
other half is something else.....something bigger!
{sang}
You've gotta have....Heart! All you really need is heart!
When
the odds are sayin' you'll never win, that's when the grin should start!
You've gotta have hope! Musn't sit around and mope. Nuthin' half as bad as
it may appear, wait'll next year and hope. When your luck is battin' zero,
get your chin up off the floor. Mister, you can be a hero. You can open any
door. There's nothin' to it, but to do it. You've gotta have heart! Miles
and miles and miles of heart! Oh, it's fine to be a genius of corse! But
keep that ol' horse before the cart! First you've got to have heart!
Smokey:
A great pitcher, we haven't got!
Rocky:
A great slugger, we haven't got!
Sohovic:
A great pitcher, we haven't got!
All:
What've we got? We've got heart! All you really need is heart! When the odds
are sayin', You'll never win, that's when the grin should start! We've got
hope! We don't sit around and mope! Not a solitary sob do we heave, mister
'cause we've got hope.
Rocky:
We're so happy, that we're hummin'.

All:
Hmm, Hmm, Hmm
Coach:
That's the heart-y thing to do.
Smokey:
'Cause we know our ship will come in!
All:
Hmm, hmm, hmm
Sohovic:
So it's ten years over due!
All:
Hoo, hoo, hoo. We've got heart! Miles and miles and miles of heart! Oh it's
fine to be a genius of coarse, but keep that old horse before the cart!
Smokey:
So what the heck's the use of cryin'?
Coach:
Why should we curse?
Sohovic:
We've got to get better......
Rocky:
....'cause we can't get worse!
All:
And to add to it; we've got heart! We've got heart! We've got Heart!

We Are the Wave

The sea will wash against the rock
The rock stands strong, the rock is strong
The sea will wash against the rock
But before too long the rock is gone

The wind will blow against the stone
The stone stands strong, the stone is strong
The wind will blow against the stone
but before too long the stone is gone

Patience gentlemen, we move closer every day
Patience gentlemen, the stone will soon give way

Chorus
We are the wave,
We are the flow
We are the wind
And soon the rock must go
We are the wave,
We are the flow
We are the wind
And soon the rock must go

You cannot hold back the tide
The tide must rise the tide must rise
Its the law of earth and skies
The tide will rise, the tide will rise
Its as natural as day to night
As day to night, day to night
As natural as black and white
Black and white, black and white

Patience gentlemen, the flower can grow up through the stone
Patience gentlemen, its a truth that we have always known

Chorus
We are the wave,
We are the flow
We are the wind
And soon the rock must go
We are the force
We are the fire
We are the move
Moving higher and higher,
We are the force
We are the fire
We are the move
Moving higher and higher

Interlude
We are the wave,
We are the flow
We are the wind
And soon the rock must go
We are the wave,
We are the flow
We are the wind
We are the flow
We are the wave,
We are the flow
We are the wind
And soon the rock must go
We are the wave,
We are the flow
We are the wind
We are the flow

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

edgar, that is a great song, Texas. I was so delighted when I looked at my ocean as I drove along A1A. The beach is back and the Atlantic was calm and lake-like.

Not one of my favorites, folks, but it suits the mood.

WHITE SILVER SANDS
Don Rondo

Where the deep blue pearly waters
Wash upon while silver sands
There on the brink of love I kissed her
And obeyed our hearts command

Where the deep blue pearly waters
Wash upon while silver sands
We watched the sun set in the evening
In a far and distant land

So beneath God's blue heaven
There's a place that I must go
See the sun set in the evening
With the only girl I know

REPEAT FIRST VERSE

We watched the sun set in the evening
See the moon yellow and pale
Watch the gaucho's ride the pinto's
All across the pampas trail

REPEAT FIRST VERSE
