Raggedy, I saw "The Last of the Blonde Bombshells" at the suggestion of my next door neighbor, but I didn't pay any attention to anyone but the music of Cleo Laine.

Is this the one?

The Last of The Blonde Bombshells tells the story of Elizabeth (Dame Judi Dench) who upon the death of her husband realises that the happiest days of her life were when she played tenor saxophone in an all-girls dance band, The Blond Bombshells, during the Second World War. To the horror of her children Elizabeth starts busking in Camden where she is spotted by Patrick (Sir Ian Holm), a dedicated Lothario who played drums in the band to dodge conscription. Encouraged by her granddaughter Joanna, Elizabeth sets about to reunite the band with a reluctant Patrick.

Travelling across the country they find their fellow band members in a range of locations from old folks homes to prisons and a variety of lifestyles from the predictable to the bizarre. The search is haunted by the past. Elizabeth learns that Patrick systematically seduced every member of the band except herself primarily because she was under the age of consent but more probably because he was threatened with castration. Despite the odds, Elizabeth and Patrick using a mixture of charm, cajolery and bribery, reassemble the band. At Joanna's school concert The Blonde Bombshells triumph and Elizabeth agrees to become the last and only rose on Patrick's drum.

I didn't see that one, Letty. If you saw some of the 007 movies, you might remember Judi Dench as "M". I think you'd like "Chocolat" with Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche.
She was superb in "Iris" (Iris Murdoch), but it was very sad.

Yes, Raggedy, I vaguely recall the woman who played "M". In those days, PA. I didn't pay much attention to the names of the characters, but simply watched movies for entertainment.

Wonder if I could have gotten anywhere with an MA in music, folks. I doubt it.

Well, I did find this by Cleo Laine and written for the guitarist, John Williams of Australia.

He was beautiful beautiful to my eyes. From the moment I saw him The sun filled the sky. He was so, so beautiful. Beautiful just to hold In my dreams; he was springtime. Winter was cold. How could I tell him What I so clearly could see Though I longed for him Another ... Trusted me completely, so I never could be free It was beautiful Knowing now that he cares I will always remember moments we shared. Now it's all over. Still the feelings linger on. For my dream keeps returning now that he's gone For it was beautiful Beautiful Beautiful to be loved.

Skateaway
Dire Straits

I seen a girl on a one way corridor
Stealing down a wrong way street
For all the world like an urban toreador
She had wheels on on her feet
Well the cars do the usual dances
Same old cruise and the kerbside crawl
But the rollergirl she's taking chances
Just love to see her take them all

No fears alone at night she's sailing through the crowd
In her ears the phones are tight and the music's playing loud

Hallelujah here she comes queen rollerball
Enchante what can I say, care at all
You know she used to have to wait around
She used to be the lonely one
But now that she can skate around town
She's the only, the only one

No fears alone at night she's sailing through the crowd
In her ears the phones are tight and the music's playing loud

She gets rock n roll a rock n roll station
And a rock n roll dream
She's making movies on location
She don't know what it means
and the music maker wanna be the story
And the story was whatever was the song what it was
Rollergirl don't worry
D.j. play the movies all night long

She tortures taxi drivers just for fun
She like to read their lips
Says toro toro taxi see ya tomorrow my son
Then she let a big truck grease her hip
She got her own world in the city
That Aint True No No No
She got her own world in the city
Cos the city's been so rude to her

Come slippin and a slidin
Life's a rollerball
Slippin and a slidin
Skateaway that's all
Shala shalay hey hey skateaway
She's singing shala shalay hey hey
Skateaway

Wonderful, Wonderful
------Johnny Mathis

Sometimes we walk hand in hand by the sea
And we breathe in the cool salty air,
You turn to me with a kiss in your eyes
And my heart feels a thrill beyond compare
Then your lips cling to mine, it's wonderful, wonderful
Oh, so wonderful my love.

Sometimes we stand on the top of a hill
And we gaze at the earth and the sky
I turn to you and you melt in my arms
There we are, darling, only you and I
What a moment to share, it's wonderful, wonderful
Oh, so wonderful my love

Bridge:
This world is full of wondrous things it's true
But they wouldn't have much meaning without you

Some quiet evenings I sit by your side
And we're lost in a world of our own
I feel the glow of your unspoken love
I'm aware of the treasures that I own
And I say to myself, it's wonderful, wonderful
Oh, so wonderful my love!

This one's for the flock of Wild Turkeys i encountered on my hike today. Laughing

When you're driving down the highway at night
And you're feelin' that wild turkey's bite
Don't give Johnny Walker a ride
Cause Jack Black is right by your side
You might get taken to the jailhouse and find
You've been arrested for driving while blind

Now just the other night with nothin' to do
We broke a case of proof 102
And started itchin' for that wonderful feel
Of rollin' in an automobile
You could say we was out of our mind
And let me tell you we were flyin' while blind

Then they had us up against the wall
Hey it's only blood grain alcohol
And there ain't no cause for alarm
We ain't out to do nobody no harm
How could anyone be so unkind
To arrest a man for drivin' while blind

Well, listeners. There's that grinch with a skating song. My word, dj. I love it. "Queen of the rollerball? Thanks, Canada.

Hey, Texas. I love the line "with a kiss in your eyes." I think the first song I ever heard by Johnny Mathis was, "Chances Are". Great song, buddy.

My goodness, folks, there's our turtle back with us in the company of a bunch of turkeys Great lyrics, M.D. and I don't believe that you are just talking turkey, either. I tried that wild stuff one time, and swore never again. Razz

dj, Your skating song reminded me that Ian Anderson is pretty prophetic, so let's talk about that "thin ice".

Jethro Tull - Skating Away

Mean while back in the year one
When you belonged to no
one
You didn´t stand a chance son
If your pants were
undone

´Cause you were bread for humanity
And
sold to society
One day you´ll wake in the present days
A million generations removed from expectation of
A being
who you really wants to be

Skating away
Skating
away
Skating away
On the thin ice of a new day

So as you push off from the shore
Won´t you turn
your head once more
And make your peace with ev´ryone
For those who choose to stay, will live just one more day
To do the things they should have done

And as you
cross the wilderness
Aspinning in your emtyness you feel
you have to pray
Looking for a sign that the universal
mind
Has written you into the passion play

Skating away
Skating away
Skating away
On the
thin ice of a new day

And as you cross the circle
line
Well the ice wall creaks behind
You´re a rabbit
on the run
And silver splinters flyIn the corner of your
eye
Shining in the setting sun

Well do you ever
get the feeling
That the story´s too damn real and in the
present tense
Or that ev´rybody´s on the stage
And it
seems like you´re the only person sitting in the audience

Skating away
Skating away
Skating away
On
the thin ice of a new day

Skating away
Skating
away
Skating away

Does that cover all the animals?

My goodnight song, cause I'm feeling up after talking to my son and daughter:

Monty Python I've Got A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts

Down at an English fair,
One evening I was there,
When I heard a showman shouting
Underneath the flare:

Hoi've got a lo-ve-ly bunch o' coconuts.
There they are a-standin' in a row.
Big ones, small ones, some as big as yer 'ead!
Give 'em a twist, a flick o' the wrist,
That's what the showman said.

Hoi've got a lo-ve-ly bunch o' coconuts.
Hevery ball yer throw will make me rich.
There stands me wife, the idol of me life,
Singin' "roll a-bowl a ball, a penny a pitch!

Singin' roll a-bowl a ball, a penny a pitch!
Singin' roll a-bowl a ball, a penny a pitch!
Roll a-bowl a ball, roll a-bowl a boll, singin' roll a-bowl a ball a penny a pitch!

Instumental

I've got a lo-ve-ly bunch of coconuts (They're lovely!)
There they are a standing in a row.
(One, two, three, four)
Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head
(And bigger)
Give 'em a twist, a flick of the wrist, thats what the showman said.

Now that hoi've got a lo-ve-ly bunch of coconuts.
(La-da-de-da-da)
Hevery ball you throw will make me rich.
(Have a banana)
There stands me wife, the idol of me life,
Singin' roll a-bowl a ball, a penny a pitch!

All together now!

Singin' roll a-bowl a ball, a penny a pitch!
(Harmony!)
Singin' roll a-bowl a ball, a penny a pitch!
Roll a-bowl a ball, roll a-bowl a ball, singin' roll a-bowl a ball, a penny a pitch.
ball, a penny a pitch!

Big smile and always......

From Letty with love

Time Keeps on Slipping Slipping Slipping
Into the future
I wanna fly like an eagle, to the sea
Fly like an eagle
Let my spirit carry me
I wanna fly
Fly right into the future

I wanna feed the babies
Who can't get enough to eat
I wanna shoe the children
New shoes on their feet
I wanna house the people
Living in the street

Time Keeps on Slipping

Good morning, edgar. Here's another slippin' song for our listeners:

Slip Slidin' Away Lyrics
by Simon & Garfunkel

Chorus:
Slip sliding away, slip sliding away
You know the nearer your destination, the more you slip sliding away

Whoah and I know a man, he came from my hometown
He wore his passion for his woman like a thorny crown
He said Dolores, I live in fear
My love for you's so overpowering, I'm afraid that I will disappear

chorus

I know a woman, (who) became a wife
These are the very words she uses to describe her life
She said a good day ain't got no rain
She said a bad day is when I lie in the bed
And I think of things that might have been

chorus

And I know a father who had a son
He longed to tell him all the reasons for the things he'd done
He came a long way just to explain
He kissed his boy as he lay sleeping
Then he turned around and he headed home again

chorus

Whoah God only knows, God makes his plan
The information's unavailable to the mortal man
We're workin' our jobs, collect our pay
Believe we're gliding down the highway, when in fact we're slip sliding away

I see your sliding and raise you one Little Richard.

(Penniman, Bocage, Collins, Smith)

Slippin' and a slidin', peepin' and a hidin', been told long time ago,
Slippin' and a slidin', peepin' and a hidin', been told long time ago,
I been told, baby, you been bold, I won't be your fool no more.

Oh, big conniver, nothing but a jiver, done got hip to your jive,
Oh, big conniver, nothing but a jiver, done got hip to your jive,
Slippin' and a slidin', peepin' and a hidin', won't be your fool no more.

Oh Malinda, she's a solid sender, you know you better surrender,
Oh Malinda, she's a solid sender, you know you better surrender,
Slippin' and a slidin', peepin' and a hidin', won't be your fool no more.

That's the one that I was trying to find, edgar. Not much luck with locating stuff in the archives lately.

and speaking of lately, listeners:

What Have You Done For Me Lately
by Janet Jackson

[Spoken intro:]
What's up girl?
He stood me up again
Again?
Mmhmm
Well what's up with this guy?
Do you really like him that much?
Yes honey, I love him, he is fine,
he does a lot of nice things for me I know he used to do nice stuff for you,
but what has he done for you lately?

Used to be a time when you would pamper me
Used to brag about it all the time
Your friends seem to think that you're so peachy keen
But my friends say neglect is on your mind
Who's right?

What have you done for me lately?
Ooh ooh ooh yeah
What have you done for me lately?
Ooh ooh ooh yeah

Used to go to dinner almost every night
Dancin' 'til I thought I'd lose my breath
Ahh
Now it seems your dancing feet are always on my couch
Good thing I cook or else we'd starve to death
Ain't that a shame?

What have you done for me lately?
Ooh ooh ooh yeah
What have you done for me lately?
Ooh ooh ooh yeah

I never ask for more than I deserve
You know it's the truth
You seem to think you're God's gift to this earth
I'm tellin' you, no way

You ought to be thankful for the little things,
but little things are all you seem to give
You're always putting off what we can do today
Soap opera says, you've got one life to live
Who's right, who's wrong?

What have you done for me lately?
Ooh ooh ooh yeah
What have you done for me lately?
Ooh ooh ooh yeah
What have you done for me lately?
Ooh ooh ooh yeah
What have you done for me lately?
Ooh ooh ooh yeah

Get with it
Uh, let me know, and from the front
Let me know, and let me know from the
What have you done for me lately?
Ooh ooh ooh yeah (yeah ha)
What have you done for me lately?
Ooh ooh ooh yeah (yeah)
What have you done for me lately?
Ooh ooh ooh yeah (yeah)

(No oh oh, no oh, yeah, mmmhmm
Da di da di, da di da da
Da
Mmmhmm
Yeah-e-yeah-e-yeah ha ha, hey
Mmmhmm, yeah ha ha)

What have you done for me lately? (lately)
Ooh ooh ooh yeah
(Uh, uh, uh, da di di da, di da di da, a di do da da, yeah)
What have you done for me lately?
Ooh ooh ooh yeah
What have you done for me lately? (lately)

This is wild, I swear

Here's one by the Fab 4 with a slide in it:

When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide
Where I stop and I turn and I go for a ride
Till I get to the bottom and I see you again
Yeah yeah yeah hey

Do you, don't you want me to love you
I'm coming down fast but I'm miles above you
Tell me tell me tell me come on tell me the answer
Well you may be a lover but you ain't no dancer

Now helter skelter helter skelter
Helter skelter yeah
Ooh!

Will you, won't you want me to make you
I'm coming down fast but don't let me break you
Tell me tell me tell me the answer
You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer

Look out helter skelter helter skelter
Helter skelter ooh

Look out, cos here she comes

When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide
And I stop and I turn and I go for a ride
And I get to the bottom and I see you again
Yeah yeah yeah

Well do you, don't you want me to make you
I'm coming down fast but don't let me break you
Tell me tell me tell me the answer
You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer

Look out helter skelter helter skelter
Helter skelter

Look out helter skelter
She's coming down fast
Yes she is
Yes she is coming down fast

[My head is spinning, ooh...

Ha ha ha, ha ha ha, alrgiht!

I got blisters on my fingers!]

Hey, Turtle. I know that one, but did you know that Charles Manson used the fab four to justify his murders? He saw the Beatles as the four angels of revolution, especially the White Album and Helter Skelter.

Here's another example, folks:

Blackbird Lyrics
Artist: The Beatles

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.

Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

If Manson hadn't had the Beatles, he would have latched onto something else to achieve the same end. There were plenty of explosive songs on record those years.

edgar, going on my memory now, but I believe that Manson was put in jail for some reason or another, and when it was time for him to be released, he begged to be kept in prison, realizing the dark thoughts that kept brewing inside his head.

Wow! folks. How did I get on this kick?

It's lovely; it's Sunday; and we're alive. It's just too good to be true....

You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.
You'd be like Heaven to touch.
I wanna hold you so much.
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive.
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.

Pardon the way that I stare.
There's nothing else to compare.
The sight of you leaves me weak.
There are no words left to speak,
But if you feel like I feel,
Please let me know that it's real.
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.

I love you, baby,
And if it's quite alright,
I need you, baby,
To warm a lonely night.
I love you, baby.
Trust in me when I say:
Oh, pretty baby,
Don't bring me down, I pray.
Oh, pretty baby, now that I found you, stay
And let me love you, baby.
Let me love you.

You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.
You'd be like Heaven to touch.
I wanna hold you so much.
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive.
You're just too good to be true.

Oh, yes, Turtle, I knew that he knew Dennis. I learned it all in this book:

Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders
by Vincent Bugliosi with Curt Gentry

Obviously the most famous Manson book published, it has sold over 7 million copies, making it the best-selling True-Crime book of all time. Written by prosecuting attorney Vincent Bugliosi with author Curt Gentry, Helter Skelter provides the reader with a front row seat for both the investigation and trial. In exhaustive fashion, Bugliosi reveals the details of the Manson family, the Helter Skelter motive, and the nightmarish murders themselves. A must read.

Well, M.D., I don't want to go there either. Razz

Please, Mr. Custer by Verne Larry:

(That famous day in history the men of the 7th Cavalry went riding on)
(And from the rear a voice was heard)
(A brave you man with a trembling word rang loud and clear)
What am I doin' here??

Please Mr. Custer, I don't wanna go
Hey, Mr. Custer, please don't make me go
I had a dream last night about the comin' fight
Somebody yelled "attack!"
And there I stood with a arrow in my back.

Please Mr. Custer, I don't wanna go (forward Ho!!)--aaww

SPOKEN: Look at them bushes out there
They're moving and there's a injun behind every one
Hey, Mr. Custer-you mind if I be excused the rest of the afternoon?
HEY CHARLIE, DUCK YER HEAD!!

Hmm, you're a little bit late on that one, Charlie
Hooh, I bet that smarts!

(They were sure of victory, the men of the 7th Cavalry, as they rode on)

(But then from the rear a voice was heard)
(That same brave voice with the trembling word rang loud and clear)
What am I doin' here??

Please Mr. Custer, I don't wanna go
Listen, Mr. Custer, please don't make me go
There's a redskin a'waitin' out there, just fixin to take my hair
A coward I've been called cuz I don't wanna wind up dead or bald

Please Mr. Custer, I don't wanna go (forward HO)--aaww

SPOKEN: I wonder what the injun word for friend is
Let's see-friend-- kemo sabe, that's it
KEMO SABE!, HEY OUT THERE-KEMO SABE!
Nope, that itn't it
Look at them durned injuns
They're runnin' around like a bunch of wild Indians-heh, heh, heh

Wow! More synchronicity, y'all:

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Astronauts aboard the space shuttle Discovery woke up to The Beatles on Sunday, their first morning in space, where the first order of business will be to make sure their ship wasn't damaged during launch.

The crew lit up the sky late Saturday with a fiery ascent that practically turned night into day in the first nighttime launch in four years. Then it was on to the international space station to rewire the orbital outpost.

The astronauts began their day to the mellow tunes of "Here Comes the Sun."

"Good morning, Discovery. We especially want to thank you for the burst of sunshine you brought into our lives last night. It was an awesome launch," Shannon Lucid from Mission Control radioed up to the crew.

"It was pretty great for all of us, too," Commander Mark Polansky responded.
