MAXINE FOR PRESIDENT!

Very eloquently put...........don't you think?

Maxine on "Driver Safety" "I can't use the cell phone in the car. I have to keep my hands free for making gestures.".......

Maxine on "Housework" "I do my housework in the nude. It gives me an incentive to clean the mirrors as quickly as possible."

Maxine on "Lawn Care" "The key to a nice-looking lawn is a good mower. I recommend one who is muscular and shirtless."

Maxine on "The Perfect Man" "All I'm looking for is a guy who'll do what I want, when I want, for as long as I want, and then go away. Or wait nearby, like a Dust Buster, charged up and ready when needed."

Maxine on "Technology Revolution" "My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice."

Maxine on "Aging" "Take every birthday with a grain of salt. This works much better if the salt accompanies a Margarita."

The only two things we do with greater frequency in middle age are urinate and attend funerals .

The trouble with bucket seats is that not everybody has the same size bucket.

To err is human, to forgive: highly unlikely.

Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos and pierced navels? (Now that's scary!)

Money can't buy happiness--but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching somewhere...you may be dead.

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

Well, folks, Bob is through with his bio's. Hey, hawk, who is Maxine? Well, whoever, she has got it right. Love it, Boston. I think we know most of your famous folks, but, par usual, we shall await our Raggedy and her fantastic photo's.

It seems that our edgar started a hurdy gurdy song, and the cowboy followed up with a detailed explanation. This gave me the inspiration to search out the calliope music, and what to my wondering eyes should appear, but the following song that was originally "Over the Waves" that every calliope played on the merry-go-round.

When you are in love
It's the loveliest night of the year
Stars twinkle above
And you almost can touch them from here

Words fall into rhyme
Any time you are holding me near
When you are in love
It's the loveliest night of the year

Waltzing along in the blue
Like a breeze drifting over the sand
Thrilled by the wonder of you
And the wonderful touch of your hand and...

My heart starts to beat
Like a child when a birthday is near
So kiss me, my sweet...
It's the loveliest night of the year

---- Instrumental Interlude ----

Waltzing along in the blue
Like a breeze drifting over the sand
Thrilled by the wonder of you
And the wonderful touch of your hand and...

My heart starts to beat
Like a child when a birthday is near
So kiss me, my sweet...
It's the loveliest night of the year.

What a nice surprise, that.

Raggedy, you are a delight, PA. Absolutely, we should all write in Maxine's name for president and Pogo's for veep. Love it!

Well, there they are, folks. W.C., Burgess, lovely Diana, Lisa and Martha.

A fabulous quintet today, right? Here's one done by Diana that I like:

The Look of Love Lyrics

The look of love
Is in your eyes.
A look your smile
Can't disguise.
The look of love,
It's saying so much more than
These words could ever say.
And when my heart has hurt,
Well, it takes my breath away.

I can hardly wait to hold you,
Feel my arms around you.
How long I have waited,
Waited just to love you,
Now that I have found you.

You've got that look of love.
It's on your face.
The look that time can't erase.
You're mine tonight.
Let this be just the start of
So many nights like this.
Let's take what lover's found
And then seal it with a kiss.

I can hardly wait to hold you,
Feel my arms around you.
How long I have waited,
Waited just to love you,
Now that I have found you,
Don't ever go.
Don't ever go.
I love you so.

Good morning. I don't wish to spread alarm, but we might be on the…

Eve Of Destruction
Barry McGuire Lyrics -

The eastern world, it is exploding
Violence flarin', bullets loadin'
You're old enough to kill, but not for votin'
You don't believe in war, but what's that gun you're totin'
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin'

But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.

Don't you understand what I'm tryin' to say
Can't you feel the fears I'm feelin' today?
If the button is pushed, there's no runnin' away
There'll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
[Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.

Yeah, my blood's so mad feels like coagulatin'
I'm sitting here just contemplatin'
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don't pass legislation
And marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it's the same old place
The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don't believe
We're on the eve
Of destruction
Mm, no no, you don't believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.

Well, there's our "Tried and True" man. Here's one for you, buddy:

Artist/Band: Montgomery Gentry
Tried and True

I was born in a small town in the hills of Tennessee
Kentucky raised, just a country boy and that's all I'll ever be
My daddy ran a still house to keep us kids alive
Just doin' what he had to do after mama died
The same people that called him no good
Would meet him in the back woods for a little taste
He said I may take your money but don't put yourself above me
Don't cut me down as you walk away

You don't know me you don't know who I am
You don't know the pain that I've been through
So don't judge me till you stand where I stand
I don't need you or anyone else to approve
Cause the blood in these veins is tried and true

I left home at sixteen with a guitar on my back
With everything I called my own I carried in a paper sack
Spent years of havin' nothin' and sleepin' in my car
I'd drive all day and play all night
In the honky tonks and bars

The same people that called me crazy
Said I'm too lazy to amount to anything
Are the first ones to the stage just beggin' for a little taste
Who say you knew me when nobody knew my name but

You don't know me you don't know who I am
You don't know the pain that I've been through
So don't judge me till you stand where I stand
I don't need you or anyone else to approve
Cause the blood in these veins is tried and true

The same people that called me crazy
Said I'm too lazy to amount to anything
Are the first ones to the stage just beggin' for a little taste
Who say you knew me when nobody knew my name but

You don't know me you don't know who I am
You don't know the pain that I've been through
So don't judge me till you stand where I stand
I don't need you or anyone else to approve
Cause the blood in these veins is tried and true

The blood in these veins is tried and true

Thank you Miss Letty, we all is still very poor with no electrik or stuff, but…

There's Better Times A Comin'
Rose Maddox lyrics

There's a rough and a rocky side of life
Everybody have to go through grief and strife
But look on down the highway cause there's better times a comin'
To the rough and a rocky side of life
Well if you look all around find the world that's turned you down
And you can't make that for sun won't shine wait for another day
You might take forever but there's good times a comin'
To the rough and a rocky side of life

[ ac.guitar ]

If you feel likr the world has caused you pain
And you think that your life has been in vain
There's better times a comin' somewhere along the pathway
To the rough and a rocky side of life
Well if you look all around...

[ fiddle ]

Well if you look all around...
To the rough and a rocky side of life

That one gave me a laugh, Try. Well, buddy, I've been rich and I've been poor and I've been somewhere in between, but there's one thing I've never been and that is spiteful, snide or mean. (well, maybe sometimes Razz )

Now it's time for the triangle song, listeners:

INTRO:
Throughout history, there've been many songs written about the eternal triangle. This next one tells the story of a Mr. Grayson, a beautiful woman, and a condemned man named Tom Dooley...
When the sun rises tomorrow, Tom Dooley... must hang...

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Hang down your head and cry;
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Poor boy, you're bound to die.

I met her on the mountain,
There I took her life;
Met her on the mountain,
Stabbed her with my knife.

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Hang down your head and cry;
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Poor boy, you're bound to die.

This time tomorrow,
Reckon where I'll be;
Hadn't a-been for Grayson,
I'd a-been in Tennessee.

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Hang down your head and cry;
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Poor boy, you're bound to die.

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Hang down your head and cry;
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Poor boy, you're bound to die.

This time tomorrow,
Reckon where I'll be;
Down in some lonesome valley,
Hangin' from a white oak tree.

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Hang down your head and cry;
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Poor boy, you're bound to die.

Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Hang down your head and cry;
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Poor boy, you're bound to die.

Poor boy, you're bound to die;
Poor boy you're bound to die;
Poor boy, you're bound to die...

good afternoon , all !
we've had a very rainy november so far - just now the rain is pounding the roof and more rain forecast for tomorrow - not much hope of seeing the sun soon ... but , there is always FREDDY FENDER to make one smile , even if his songs are a little on the sad side .
hbg
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FREDDY FENDER
WASTED DAYS AND WASTED NIGHTS

(1st Verse)
Wasted days and wasted nights,
I have left for you Behind
for you don't belong to me,
your heart belongs to someone else.

(2nd Verse)
Why should I keep loving you,
when I know that you're Not true?
And why should I call your name,
when you're to blame
for making me Blue?

(chorus)
Don't you remember the days
that you went away and left me,
I was so lonely
prayed for you only,
my love.

repeat
(2nd Verse)
Why should I keep loving you,
When I know that you are not true?
And why should I call you're name
when you're 2 blame
4 makin me blue

(chorus)
Don't you remember the days,
that went away and left me
I was so loney
prayed 4 you only,
My LOVE

repeat
(2nd verse)
Why should I keep loving you,
when I know that you are not true
And why should I call your name
when you're 2 blame,
4 making me blue

Hey, hamburger. Thanks for Freddy Fender bender's guitar song. Razz Used to be, Canada, when a person got wasted they were killed or dead drunk. Ah, the American language and its idioms.

I noticed today that North Carolina had a deadly tornado that thus far has killed seven people and demolished property. I suppose, if I had a really deep fear of the weather it would be that unpredictable funnel.

Voivod
Tornado

Nature deadly twisters
War of winds strikes again
You live in a nice neighborhood
As nice as it will be after
They drop down from the clouds
Completely out man's control
Some day it's gonna catch me
The tornado is right behind
It picks me up to overseas
The tornado is right there
Cumulonimbus storms arrive
Lightning flashes a hundred miles around
Electrical collision course
Creates the elephant trunk
Creeping and looking for your home
Sucking anything from the ground
Go 25.000 feet in the air
The deadlist of all thunderheads
The strong winds and the vacuum
Are gonna take you to the heart of the storm
Moving and turning
No escape, you disappear
It rips you off, keeps you in
Rises you up and pushes you out
Into the guts of the tornado
Get high by the suction of the funnel
Spinning at 300 miles an hour
And trying to outwit this monster
Moving and turning
No escape, you disappear
It rips you off, keeps you in
Rises you up and pushes you out
The frontal attack, now is in the past
Is it finished, or is it coming back?
No one knows, where it goes
Am I safe ? Am I gone with it ?
Running scared !!
Do it quickly, if you see it
There is no time, for a warning
The tornado has struck, hope you have some luck
Dust will make you blind, nothing you can find
Running scared !
Tornado ! Tornado ! Tornado !!!...

i was quite shocked to see the devastion around wilmington , nc .
i understand that the tornado swept through some of the outlying areas but didn't do much damage in the old city .
when going to myrtle beach , we'd usually turn off I-95 around statesville and go down I-40 towards wilmington , there we'd pick up 17 south to m.b.
wilmington is a beautiful old city , many stately buildings .
the aquarium maintained by the NC-university is also quite an interseting place - they keep live sharks in one of their aquariums - quite a sight !

to honour north carolina :

The Old North State
Written by William Gaston
Composed by Mrs. E. E. Randolph

Carolina! Carolina! Heaven's blessings attend her!
While we live we will cherish, protect and defend her;
Tho' the scorner may sneer at and witlings defame her,
Still our hearts swell with gladness whenever we name her.

Hurrah! Hurrah! The Old North State forever!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The good Old North State!

Tho' she envies not others, their merited glory,
Say whose name stands the foremost, in Liberty's story,
Tho' too true to herself e'er to crouch to oppression,
Who can yield to just rule a more loyal submission?

Hurrah! Hurrah! The Old North State forever!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The good Old North State!

Plain and artless her sons, but whose doors open faster
At the knock of a stranger, or the tale of disaster.
How like the rudeness of the dear native mountains,
With rich ore in their bosoms and life in their fountains.

Hurrah! Hurrah! The Old North State forever!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The good Old North State!

And her daughters, the Queen or the forest resembling
So graceful, so constant, yet the gentlest breath trembling.
And true lightwood at heart, let the match be applied them,
How they kindle and flame! Oh! none know but who've tried them.

Hurrah! Hurrah! The Old North State forever!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The good Old North State!

Then let all those who love us, love the land that we live in,
As happy a region as on this side of heaven,
Where plenty and peace, love and joy smile before us,
Raise aloud, raise together the heart thrilling chorus.

Hurrah! Hurrah! The Old North State forever!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The good Old North State!

Camped a lot at Myrtle Beach, hbg. Took our German Shepherd with us, too. He was better behaved than a lot of the beach bums. Razz

Remember this one, listeners:

Maureen McGovern Carolina Moon lyrics

Carolina moon, keep shinin',
Shinin' for the one who waits for me
Carolina moon, I'm pinin',
Pinin' for the one who waits for me
How I'm hopin' tonight, you'll go,
Go to the right window
Scatter your light, say I'm alright, please do
Tell him that I'm blue and lonely
Dreamy Carolina moon

INSTRUMENTAL BRIDGE

How I'm hopin' tonight, you'll go,
Go to the right window
Scatter your light, say I'm alright, please do
Tell him that I'm blue and lonely
Dreamy Carolina moon
Dreamy Carolina moon
Carolina moon, keep shinin',
Shinin' for the one who waits for me

I know your leavin's too long overdue
For far too long I've had nothin' new to show to you
Goodbye dry eyes I watched your plane
Fade off west of the moon
And it felt so strange to walk away alone

No regrets, no tears goodbye
Don't want you back, we'd only cry, again
Say goodbye, again

The hours that were yours, echo like empty rooms
The thoughts we used to share, I now keep alone
I woke last night and spoke to you,
not thinking you were gone
It felt so strange to lie awake, alone

No regrets, no tears goodbye
Don't want you back, we'd only cry, again
Say goodbye, again

Our friends have tried to turn my nights to day
Strange faces in your place can't keep the ghosts away
Just beyond the darkest hour, just behind the dawn
Still feels so strange to lead my life, alone

I've no regrets, no tears goodbye
Don't want you back, we'd only cry, again
Say goodbye, again

ABSOLUTELY SWEET MARIE

Words and Music by Bob Dylan

Well, your railroad gate, you know I just can't jump it
Sometimes it gets so hard, you see
I'm just sitting here beating on my trumpet
With all these promises you left for me
But where are you tonight, sweet Marie?

Well, I waited for you when I was half sick
Yes, I waited for you when you hated me
Well, I waited for you inside of the frozen traffic
When you knew I had some other place to be
Now, where are you tonight, sweet Marie?

Well, anybody can be just like me, obviously
But then, now again, not too many can be like you, fortunately.

Well, six white horses that you did promise
Were fin'lly delivered down to the penitentiary
But to live outside the law, you must be honest
I know you always say that you agree
But where are you tonight, sweet Marie?

Well, I don't know how it happened
But the river-boat captain, he knows my fate
But ev'rybody else, even yourself
They're just gonna have to wait.

Well, I got the fever down in my pockets
The Persian drunkard, he follows me
Yes, I can take him to your house but I can't unlock it
You see, you forgot to leave me with the key
Oh, where are you tonight, sweet Marie?

Now, I been in jail when all my mail showed
That a man can't give his address out to bad company
And now I stand here lookin' at your yellow railroad
In the ruins of your balcony
Wond'ring where you are tonight, sweet Marie.

All My Little Words
The Magnetic Fields

You are a splendid butterfly
It is your wings that make you beautiful
And I could make you fly away
But I could never make you stay
You said you were in love with me
Both of us know that that's impossible
And I could make you rue the day
But I could never make you stay

Not for all the tea in China
Not if I could sing like a bird
Not for all North Carolina
Not for all my little words
Not if I could write for you
The sweetest song you ever heard
It doesn't matter what I'll do
Not for all my little words

Now that you've made me want to die
You tell me that you're unboyfriendable
And I could make you pay in pain
But I could never make you stay

Nothing Matters When We're Dancing
The Magnetic Fields

Dance with me my old friend
once before we go
Let's pretend this song won't end
and we never have to go home
and we'll dance among the chandeliers

And nothing matters when we're dancing
In tat or tatters you're entrancing
Be we in Paris or in Lansing
nothing matters when we're dancing

You've never been more beautiful
your eyes like two full moons
than here in this poor old dancehall
among the dreadful tunes
the awful songs we don't even hear...

And nothing matters when we're dancing
In tat or tatters you're entrancing
Be we in Paris or in Lansing
nothing matters when we're dancing

And nothing matters when we're dancing
In tat or tatters you're entrancing
Be we in Paris or in Lansing
nothing matters when we're dancing

Nothing matters when we're dancing

They'll Need a Crane
They Might Be Giants

Love sees love's happiness
But happiness can't see that love is sad
That love is sad
Sadness is hanging there
To show love somewhere something needs a change
They need a change

They'll need a crane, they'll need a crane
To take the house he built for her apart
To make it break it's gonna take a metal ball hung from a chain
They'll need a crane, they'll need a crane
To pick the broken ruins up again
To mend her heart, to help him start to see a world apart from pain

Lad's gal is all he has
Gal's gladness hangs upon the love of lad
The love of lad
Some things gal says to lad aren't meant as bad
But cause a little pain
They cause him pain

They'll need a crane, they'll need a crane
To take the house he built for her apart
To make it break it's gonna take a metal ball hung from a chain
They'll need a crane, they'll need a crane
To pick the broken ruins up again
To mend her heart, to help him start to see a world apart from pain

Don't call me at work again no no the boss still hates me
I'm just tired and I don't love you anymore
And there's a restaurant we should check out where
The other nightmare people like to go
I mean nice people, baby wait,
I didn't mean to say nightmare

Lad looks at other gals
Gal thinks Jim Beam is handsomer than lad
He isn't bad
Call off the wedding band
Nobody wants to hear that one again
Play that again

They'll need a crane, they'll need a crane
To take the house he built for her apart
To make it break it's gonna take a metal ball hung from a chain
They'll need a crane, they'll need a crane
To pick the broken ruins up again
To mend her heart, to help him start to see a world apart from pain

They'll need a crane, they'll need a crane
They'll need a crane, they'll need a crane
They'll need a crane, they'll need a crane
They'll need a crane, they'll need a crane
They'll need a crane

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

Thanks, edgar, for the unusual Dylan song, and wherever "sweet Marie" be, I'm certain Bob eventually found her.<smile>

dj, welcome back, Canada. I particularly like the lyrics to "Nothing Matters When We're Dancing."

A breaking dawn song, listeners, from the prolific Mr. Berlin:

My thoughts go back to a heavenly dance
A moment of bliss we spent
Our hearts were filled with a song of romance
As into the night we went
And sang to our hearts' content

The song is ended
But the melody lingers on
You and the song are gone
But the melody lingers on

The night was splendid
And the melody seemed to say
"Summer will pass away
Take your happiness while you may"

There 'neath the light of the moon
We sang a love song that ended too soon

The moon descended
And I found with the break of dawn
You and the song had gone
But the melody lingers on
