Well, Rex. In a way we are, and as our dj once remarked. We are what we sing. <smile>

We may be a painting
A worker
A listener
A watcher
A shadow.
But the main thing is that we ARE.

I must say goodnight, now.

We Belong

Many times I've tried to tell you
Many times I've cried alone
Always I'm surprised how well you
Cut my feelings to the bone

Don't want to leave you really
I've invested too much time
To give you up that easy
To the doubts that complicate your mind

We belong to the light
We belong to the thunder
We belong to the sound of the words
We've both fallen under
Whatever we deny or embrace
For worse or for better
We belong, we belong
We belong together

Maybe its a sign of weakness
When I don't know what to say
Maybe I just wouldn't know
What to do with my strength anyway
Have we become a habit
Do we distort the facts
Now there's no looking forward
Now there's no turning back
When you say

We belong to the light
We belong to the thunder
We belong to the sound of the words
Weve both fallen under
Whatever we deny or embrace
For worse or for better
We belong, we belong
We belong together

Close your eyes and try to sleep now
Close your eyes and try to dream
Clear your mind and do your best
To try and wash the palette clean
We can't begin to know it
How much we really care
I hear your voice inside me
I see your face everywhere
Still you say

We belong to the light
We belong to the thunder
We belong to the sound of the words
We've both fallen under
Whatever we deny or embrace
For worse or for better
We belong, we belong
We belong together

Deep in the forest ember

Mystical legends of life remember

Every one is dreaming shall one awake.

And the morning take.

Dreamer of dreams

Look on yonder fields

Arise from sleep

This memory keep.

Good morning, WA2K radio listeners and contributors.

First, we would like to thank Rex for his two lovely songs, especially the Maine original. Quite lovely, really.

Song for the morning:

Rusted brandy in a diamond glass
everything is made from dreams
time is made from honey slow and sweet
only the fools know what it means
temptation, temptation, temptation
oh, temptation, temptation, I can't resist
I know that she is made of smoke
but I've lost my way
she knows that I am broke
so that I must play
temptation, temptation, temptation
oh, woah, temptation, temptation, I can't resist
Dutch pink and Italian blue
she is there waiting for you
my will has disappeared
now my confusion's oh so clear
temptation, temptation, temptation
woah, woah, temptation, temptation
I can't resist

Tom Waits and sung by Holly Cole

Good morning.
Aaah. Temptation. Tango, anyone?

You came, I was alone
I should have known you were temptation
You smiled, luring me on
My heart was gone, you were temptation

It would be thrilling if you were willling
If it can never be, pity me
For you were born to be kissed
I can't resist
You are temptation and I am yours
Here is my heart
Take it and say we'll never part
I'm just a slave, only a slave
To you, temptation

For you were born to be kissed
I can't resist
You are temptation and I am yours
Here is my heart
Take it and say we'll never part
I'm just a slave, only a slave
To you, temptation

(I think it's a tango. Laughing )

And now the birthday picture gallery.

Lillan Gish, Allan Jones (Gaylord Ravenal in the 1936 Showboat movie with Paul Robeson and known for Donkey Serenade from The Firefly); Roger Moore and Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues

Hey, Raggedy. I have no idea whether or no that tempo fits your Temptation, PA. When I hear "tango" I think of Valentino and a funny parody on your song. Very Happy

Great collage, gal. My, my, folks. Isn't Lillian a lovely woman? I believe that Allan Jones is the father of Jack Jones, and I am certain we all know "the other" James Bond, Roger. Don't know Justin, however.

Ok, for all the donkey listeners:

The Donkey Serenade

There's a song in the air,
But the fair senorita
doesn't seem to care
for the song in the air.
So I'll sing to the little donkey
if you're sure she won't think that
I am just a fool
serenading a donkey.

Amigo mio, does she not have a dainty bray?
She listens carefully to each little tune you play.
La bella Senorita?
Si, si, mi muchachito,
She's love to sing it too if only she knew the way.
But try as she may,
in her voice there's a flaw!
And all that the lady can say
is "E-E-AW!"
Senorita donkeysita, not so fleet as a mosquito,
but so sweet like my Chiquita,
you're the one for me.

There's a light in her eye,
Tho' she may try to hide it,
She cannot deny,
there's a light in her eye.
Oh! the charm of her smile
so beguiled Don Diego
that he rode a mile
for the charm of her smile.

Chorus II

Amigo mio, is she listening to my song?
No, no, mi muchachito, how can you be so wrong?
La bella Senorita?
Si, Si, la senorita,
She's love to sing it too if only she knew the way.
Her face is a dream
like an angel I saw!
But all that my darling can scream
is: "E-E-AW!"
Senorita donkeysita, not so fleet as a mosquito,
but so sweet like my Chiquita,
you're the one for me.
Ole!

Love it!

Justin Hayward was with the Moody Blues. You know "Nights in White Satin", don't you Letty?

Thanks, Raggedy. Just didn't recognize the face. If I can remember who did the parody, I will certainly search it out, gal.

In the interim, listeners, Sublime is having a birthday:

Well, folks. It is perfect weather here, and on my little jaunt to the local grocer, I also realized that it was Bike Week. Rolling Eyes

Raggedy, My sister and I put together the lyrics to that parody and I think it was done by Jo Stafford, but I couldn't find the lyrics on the web, so here is what we came up with:

You come, I was alone
I should have knowed
You wuz temptation
You smiled, luring me on
My heart was gone
Cause you wuz temptation

It would be thrilling if you were willing
And, if it can never be, then pity poor me

For you wuz born to be kissed
I couldn't resist, cause you were temptation, I
Am yourn here is my heart
Take it away and say that we'll never ever part
I'm just a slave, just a dadgum slave

Cause you wuz temptation
And I am a red hot slave (hot cinder) for you.

The main thing about that song is that it's all done in a major key and tacky on purpose.

Love it!

The Perry Como version of Temptation:

and you were temptation!

Hey, edgar. A lot of people did that song, but for the life of me I cannot think of the melody. Perhaps if I tinker around with the piano keys, it will open some memory doors.

In looking at the ocean today, a lovely poem by Oliver Wendel Holmes surfaced in my memory, however. The words set to music made a beautiful choral selection:

"THE CHAMBERED NAUTILUS"

This is the ship of pearl, which, poets feign,
Sail the unshadowed main,--
The venturous bark that flings
On the sweet summer wind its purpled wings
In gulfs enchanted, where the Siren sings,
And coral reefs lie bare,
Where the cold sea-maids rise to sun their streaming hair.

Its webs of living gauze no more unfurl;
Wrecked is the ship of pearl!
And every chambered cell,
Where its dim dreaming life was wont to dwell,
As the frail tenant shaped his growing shell,
Before thee lies revealed,--
Its irised ceiling rent, its sunless crypt unsealed!

Year after year beheld the silent toil
That spread his lustrous coil;
Still, as the spiral grew,
He left the past year's dwelling for the new,
Stole with soft step its shining archway through,
Built up its idle door,
Stretched in his last-found home, and knew the old no more.

Thanks for the heavenly message brought by thee,
Child of the wandering sea,
Cast from her lap, forlorn!
From thy dead lips a clearer note is born
Than ever Triton blew from wreathed horn;
While on mine ear it rings,
Through the deep caves of thought I hear a voice that sings:--

Build thee more stately mansions, O my soul,
As the swift seasons roll!
Leave thy low-vaulted past!
Let each new temple, nobler than the last,
Shut thee from heaven with a dome more vast,
Till thou at length art free,
Leaving thine outgrown shell by life's unresting sea!

By Oliver Wendall Holmes (1809-94).

dj, I love those lyrics. I especially like this stanza, Canada:

You, you and the storm clouds
And the puddles at our feet
The lightning cuts through the heavens
And lights you so bravely.
And I'll still write you a song
To last the whole night long.
You, you and the candles
You, you and the candles.
You, you and the candles

Thank you for reminding us of a candlelit world.

I think, folks, that I will light mine right now. <smile>

Here's a candle song, folks. Mine is glowing softly in the window for the family slain in Florida.

Peter, Paul & Mary Light One Candle Lyrics

Light one candle for the parents and children
Give thanks that their light didn't die!
Light one candle for the pain they endured
When their right to exist was denied!
Light one candle for the terrible sacrifice
Justice and freedom demand!
And light one candle for the wisdom to know
When the peacemaker's time is at hand!

chorus:
Don't let the light go out!
It's lasted for so many years!
Don't let the light go out!
Let it shine through our love and our tears. (2)

Light one candle for the strength we all need
To never become our own foe!
And light one candle for those who are suff'ring
Pain we learned so long ago!
Light one candle for all we believe in,
Let anger not tear us apart!
And light one candle to bind us together
With peace as the song in our heart!

(chorus)

What is the memory that's valued so highly
That we keep it alive in that flame?
What's the commitment to those who have died
When we cry out they've not died in vain,
We have come this far, always believing
That justice will somehow prevail!
This is the burning. This is the promise,
This why we will not fail!

(chorus)

Don't let the light go out!
Don't let the light go out!
Don't let the light go out!

I altered that song just a little

From Willie Nelson

Turn out the lights
The party's over
They say that
All good things must end
Call it a night
The party's over
And tomorrow starts
The same old thing again

But the crazy crazy party
Never seen so many people
Laughing dancing
Look at you you're having fun
But look at me
I'm almost cryin'
That don't keep her love from dyin'
Misery cause for me the party's over
Turn out the lights...

Once I had a love undyin'
I didn't keep it but I tried
Life for me was just one party
And then another
I broke her heart so many times
I had to have my parting wife
I had to have my party
Why broke her heart so many times
But one day she said
Sweetheart the party's over
Turn out the lights...

The Skye Boat Song

(Chorus)
Speed bonnie boat like a bird on the wing
Onward the sailors cry
Carry the lad that's born to be king
Over the sea to Skye

Loud the wind howls, loud the waves roar,
Thunderclaps rend the air
Baffled our foes, stand by the shore
Follow they will not dare

Chorus

Many's the lad fought on that day
Well the claymore did wield
When the night came, silently lain
Dead on Culloden field

Chorus

Though the waves heave, soft will ye sleep
Ocean's a royal bed
Rocked in the deep, Flora will keep
Watch by your weary head

Chorus

Burned are our homes, exile and death
Scatter the loyal men
Yet e'er the sword cool in the sheath
Charlie will come again.

Chorus

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

edgar, thanks for the Willie Nelson song, Texas. It was perfect for "calling it a day." I am glad you told us about Freddy Fender as I wasn't aware of the man's problems. I will begin the day with one of his melodies.

Rex, What interesting lyrics, and very arcane is the Skye Boat song. Thanks, Maine.

This seems appropriate for Freddie, who must have suffered too much pain in his final days:

Vaya Con Dios

Now the hacienda's dark, the town is sleeping;
Now the time has come to part, the time for weeping.
Vaya con Dios my darling,
May God be with you my love.

Wherever you may be, I'll be beside you,
Although you're many million dreams away.
Each night I'll say a pray'r, a pray'r to guide you
To hasten ev'ry lonely hour of ev'ry lonely day.

Now the dawn is breaking through a gray tomorrow,
But the memories we share are there to borrow.
Vaya con Dios, my darling:
May God be with you my love.

Now the village mission bells are softly ringing,
If you listen with your heart you'll hear them singing,
Vaya con Dios my darling,
May God be with you my love.

Wherever you may be I'll be beside you,
Although you're many million dreams away,
Each night I'll say a pray'r, a pray'r to guide you
To hasten ev'ry lonely hour of ev'ry lonely day.

Now the dawn is breaking through a gray tomorrow,
But the memories we share are there to borrow,
Vaya con Dios, my darling!
Vaya con Dios, my love.

Good morning WA2K. Wishing all a good day and

Wishing Barry McGuire a Happy 71st Birthday:

http://www.stop-the-hate.org/mcguire.jpgand now http://i23.ebayimg.com/02/i/07/b8/14/92_2.JPG

Recorded by "Barry McGuire"
Written by "P.F. Sloan"
Album: "Eve of Destruction"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The eastern world it tis explodin',
violence flarin', bullets loadin',
you're old enough to kill but not for votin',
you don't believe in war, what's that gun you're totin',
and even the Jordan river has bodies floatin',
but you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Don't you understand, what I'm trying to say?
Can't you see the fear that I'm feeling today?
If the button is pushed, there's no running away,
There'll be no one to save with the world in a grave,
take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy,
but you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin',
I'm sittin' here, just contemplatin',
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation,
handful of Senators don't pass legislation,
and marches alone can't bring integration,
when human respect is disintegratin',
this whole crazy world is just too frustratin',
and you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China!
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama!
Ah, you may leave here, for four days in space,
but when you return, it's the same old place,
the poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace,
you can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace,
hate your next-door-neighbour, but don't forget to say grace,
and you tell me over and over and over and over again my friend,
ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Hey, Raggedy. You always remind us of great songsters that we really don't know until you show us their photo. Thanks, PA.

Speaking of "explodin'", it seems that our hawkman is fine, but guess what has exploded. <smile>Hurry back, Bob. We miss you here.

Still searching for our Tryagain, listeners. Hope he is all right.

In perusing our different forums, I begin to see how many people are concerned with liberators and freedom. This got me to thinking, so I decided it was time to become acquainted with some of the courageous people in history. Here is our art contribution for the day:
