Inspired once again by the travel forum, folks. and what a surprise to find that it was the first song Tony Blair learned to play on guitar:
There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one
My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new bluejeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans
Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk
------ organ solo ------
Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Don't spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun
Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain
Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

Tell Me A Story
Frankie Laine & Jimmy Boyd
Junior:
Tell me story, tell me story
Tell me story, remember what you said
You promised me you said you would
You got to give in so I'll be good
Tell me a story, then I'll go to bed
Father:
Oh, worry, worry, weary ends my day
Time to go home without my raise in pay
Home by the fire where a man can just relax
Sippers there by the chair, not a worry, not a care
Along comes Junior swinging his little axe
Junior:
Tell me a story, tell me a story
Tell me a story, remember what you said
Tell me about the birds and bees
How do you make a chicken sneeze
Tell me a story, then I'll go to bed
Father:
Came home so late one evening last July
Played a little poker the time had passed me by
Shoes in my hand and my darlin' wife in bed
Up the stairs sayin' a prayer
Then a voice comes through the air ....
Junior:
Hi you there, Daddy
Remember what you said
Tell me a story, tell me a story
Tell me a story, remember what you said
Tell me how your eye got black
Because the doorway hit you back
Tell me a story, then I'll go to bed
Father:
Once upon a time I remember long ago
Junior:
Don't go back in history your memory's kinda slow
Father:
Stop your noisy talkin' until I finish with my tale
Once upon a ...
Junior:
Upon a what ...
Father:
Upon your back you'll get a swat
Junior:
Tell me about the fish you caught
That's was bigger than a whale
Junior:
Tell me a story, tell me a story
Tell me a story, remember what you said
You promised me, you said you would
You gotta give in so I'll be good
Father:
Here's a tale you'll never forget
(Tap, tap, tap)
Junior:
Ouch
My tails all red
Father:
And now get up to bed
Junior:
Ha, ha, come on Daddy
Tell me a story
Hee, hee

Love that, edgar. although I heard it a bit differently. So, Texas. You want a bedtime story? Alice has one for you.
Alice Cooper
» A Bedtime Story
Lay still, edgar, and I'll tell you a bedtime story. I'll tell you a
bedtime story that's not for all children. It's a very special story, that
only special children will understand. It's a half aware story, and it will be
better if you close your eyes. It's a story that takes place in a dream, like
other nightmares you have known. It's a dream that Alice has dreamed. You can
dream along with him. You can follow Alice down the staircase, deep, down the
stairs to the pit where he doesn't want to go, but he has to.
If you go to sleep now, edgar, you can go down the long and endless
staircase and sing sweet song to Alice and free him. And if you can't get to
sleep, edgar, and the middle of night you get out of bed, when everything is
quiet and the trees are still and the birds are hiding from the dark, you can
lay down on your bedroom floor and press your ear tightly to the boards. If
you listen very carefully you can hear Alice searching for a way out, forever
chasing rainbows.
Sleep tight, edgar, And have a good night.
Damn. Alice is certainly not Alice's restaurant, is it.

When I was a kid, edgar, I had nightmares all the time. I always asked my mom to say, "Pleasant dreams." It's been a while since I dreamed anything scary.
Speaking of dreams, folks, everyone dreams. Observers can tell by their rapid eye movement, or REM sleep, which leads to.....

Lyrics - Sheherazade
Sheherazade
You say you make her feel all right
She says she wants you, but not tonight
You know the girl is telling lies
You try some magic in her eye
When you not there other guys come sticking around
And when you ask her what's going on
She'll only push you around
Say you don't want to talk about it
She'll tell you stories...she can bet
You know the girl ...she's telling lies
You try some magic in her eyes
But when you're not there other guys come sticking around
When you ask her what's going on
She'll only push you around
Put you down
You can say what you want
but she's SHEHERAZADE
And you don't mind
And you call when she calls
You pay the price
You're bound to fall
And all the lies don't matter at all
You say you don't want to talk about it
She'll tell you stories
You can die
You know the girl is telling lies
You try some magic in her eye
But when you're not there other guys come sticking around
And when you ask her what's going on
She'll only push you around
Put you down
You can say what you want
She's SHEHERAZADE

The Thing
Phil Harris
While I was walkin' down the beach
One bright and sunny day
I saw a great big wooden box
A-floatin' in the bay
I pulled it in and opened it up
And much to my surprise
Oh, I discovered a...
Right before my eyes
Oh, I discovered a...
Right before my eyes
I picked it up and ran to town
As happy as a king
I took it to a guy I knew
Who'd buy most anything
But this is what he hollered at me
As I walked in his shop
"Oh, get out of here with that...
Before I call a cop"
"Oh, get out of here with that...
Before I call a cop"
I turned around and got right out
A-runnin' for my life
And then I took it home with me
To give it to my wife
But this is what she hollered at me
As I walked in the door
"Oh, get out of here with that...
And don't come back no more"
"Oh, get out of here with that...
And don't come back no more"
I wandered all around the town
Until I chanced to meet
A hobo who was lookin' for
A handout on the street
He said he'd take most any old thing
He was a desperate man
But when I showed him the...
He turned around and ran
Oh, when I showed him the...
He turned around and ran
I wandered on for many years
A victim of my fate
Until one day I came upon
St Peter at the gate
And when I tried to take it inside
He told me where to go
Get out of here with that...
And take it down below
Oh, get out of here with that...
And take it down below
The moral of this story is
If you're out on the beach
And you should see a great big box
And it's within your reach
Don't ever stop and open it up
That's my advice to you
'Cause you'll never get rid of the...
No matter what you do
Oh, you'll never get rid of the...
No matter what you do

Hey, Texas. I think I had better say goodnight. It's been a crazy one, Texas. The Thing washed up on my beach, and entered my equipment.
So, from ghosties and goulies and long legged beasties and things that go bump in the night, Good Lord deliver us.
From Letty with love.

Amy Irving
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Amy Irving (born September 10, 1953 in Palo Alto, California) is an American actress.
Life
Amy Irving was born on September 10, 1953, to film and stage director Jules Irving and actress Priscilla Pointer. (Her father is Jewish and her mother is a Christian Scientist). Amy Irving's brother is writer/director David Irving, and her sister is singer Katie Irving.
In the late '60s and early '70s, Irving attended acting school at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco where she appeared in a number of their theatrical productions. She also trained at LAMDA, (the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) and made her off-Broadway debut at the age of 17.
Irving was married to the American film director Steven Spielberg from 1985 to 1989. (Due to their prenuptial agreement, she received an estimated $100 million divorce settlement). In 1990, she became romantically and professionally involved with the Brazilian film director Bruno Barreto, and they were married in 1996. She has two sons, Max Samuel, (with Spielberg), and Gabriel, (with Barreto). Irving and Barreto were divorced in 2005.
Performances
Amy Irving's screen performances include roles in the Brian DePalma-directed films The Fury as Gillian Bellaver, and Carrie as Sue Snell, (in which she co-starred with her mother), as well as in the 1986 film "Yentl" (for which she was nominated for an Oscar), and Woody Allen's 1997 film Deconstructing Harry. (She also supplied the singing voice for Jessica Rabbit in the animated film Who Framed Roger Rabbit).
Irving's stage work includes The Road to Mecca, and, more recently, the 2006 one-woman play, A Safe Harbor for Elizabeth Bishop, by Marta Góes, which was a Primary Stages production at the 59E59 Theaters.
Awards & honors
Amy Irving received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film Yentl, Golden Globe nominations for her performances in the films Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna and Crossing Delancey, and an Obie Award for her stage performance in The Road to Mecca.
Irving holds the dubious distinction of being one of only two people to be nominated for both an Oscar and a Razzie Award for the same performance. In this case, she was nominated for both Best and Worst Supporting Actress for her work in Yentl. Only James Coco achieved the same feat for his work in Only When I Laugh.

Good morning, WA2K fans and listeners.
I do wonder if our hawkman can hear us groan at his one liners this morning? Thanks, Boston, for the celeb updates.
There are two or three important things that I learned about Amy Irving. The first is that she did the voice of Jessica Rabbit in "Who Framed Roger...."
The second is that she did a TV presentation of Anna Anderson who claimed to be Anastasia. I was always fascinated with that, folks, ever since I read the book "Nicholas and Alexandra," especially since Ms.Anderson resided in Charlottesville, Va. DNA tests later proved that Anna was not the lost lady, but still one wonders, no? As I understand it, there is a very large trust fund for any missing Romanov that may prove to be heir.
Well, let's listen to one of the songs, dubbed by Amy, from the aforementioned movie:
Why Don't You Do Right?
performed by Jessica Rabbit
You had plenty money
In nineteen twenty-two
You let other women
Make a fool of you
Why don't you do right
Like some other men do
Get out of here
Get me some money, too
If you had prepared
Twenty years ago
You wouldn't be wandering now
From door to door
Why don't you do right
Like some other men do
Get out of here
Get me some money, too
Why don't you do right
Like some other men do

Light my fire
You know that it would be untrue,
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah

You know that I would be a liar

and here we are on the Big Island, but temporarily fettered with a dialup connection; takes getting used to after being high speed for so long--reminds me of this song by CCR:
Just about a year ago, I set out on the road,
Seekin' my fame and fortune, lookin' for a pot of gold.
Things got bad, and things got worse, I guess you will know the tune.
Oh ! Lord, stuck in Lodi again.
Rode in on the Greyhound, I'll be walkin' out if I go.
I was just passin' through, must be seven months or more.
Ran out of time and money, looks like they took my friends.
Oh ! Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.
The man from the magazine said I was on my way.
Somewhere I lost connections, ran out of songs to play.
I came into town, a one night stand, looks like my plans fell through
Oh ! Lord, stuck in Lodi again.
Mmmm...
If I only had a dollar, for ev'ry song I've sung.
And ev'ry time I've had to play while people sat there drunk.
You know, I'd catch the next train back to where I live.
Oh ! Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.
Oh ! Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.

Mr. Turtle. Welcome to the dial up club, m.d. Just glad to hear you singing. Did I mention that you had a nice voice?<smile>
For you by Leon. Remember now, "Leon" spelled backwards is "noel" and that word means good news. Glad to know that the turtles
had to go............
Back to the island
Now the day is gone and I sit alone and think of you, girl
What can I do without you in my life?
I guess that our guessing game just had to end that way
The hardest one to lose of all the games we played
But the time is past for living in a dream world
Lying to myself can't make that scene
Of wondering if you love me or just making a fool of me
Well I hope you understand I just had to go back to the island
Chorus:
And watch the sun go down (sit and watch the sun go down)
Hear the sea roll in (listen to the sea roll in)
But I'll be thinking of you (yes, and I'll be thinking of you)
And how it might have been (thinking how it might have been)
Hear the night birds cry (listen to the night birds cry)
Watch the sunset die (sit and watch the sunset die)
Well I hope you understand I just had to go back to the island
Well all the fun has died, It's raining in my heart
I know down in my soul I'm really gonna miss you
But it had to end this way with all the games we played
Well I hope you understand I just had to go back to the island
Repeat Chorus

Earlier this year I was running a DVD of the rock band Cream's reuion at the Royal Albert Hall in London. I've always considered ERic Clapton to be the finest, cleanest & precise exponent of the electric guitar. Jimmy Page the most inventive & possibly the most flambouyant.
I said to my wife, "I wished I wished I had an electric guitar & that I could play guitar a 1/4 as well as Clapton.
A month ago I opened my birthday gift. It was an electric Guitar. Not an expensive top of the range Fender, but nevertheless, it's a good starter & has good sound quality.
I'd never had anything to do with any musical instrument before, so I was on a total learning curve. Today I taught myself how too play

John, welcome back, Brit. I love your song and am so happy that your wife could do the magic that it takes to help you find a wonderful and productive hobby. More legerdemain?
Perfect, folks, for this song. Cheers to our Brit and his progress:
Artist: Steppenwolf
Song: Magic Carpet Ride
I like to dream yes, yes, right between my sound machine
On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
Any place it goes is right
Goes far, flies near, to the stars away from here
Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
You don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away
Last night I held Aladdin's lamp
And so I wished that I could stay
Before the thing could answer me
Well, someone came and took the lamp away
I looked around, a lousy candle's all I found
Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
Well, you don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away,
Now another sound must take me away for a moment, so.....

It Don't Come Easy
Ringo Starr
It don't come easy
You know it don't come easy
It don't come easy
You know it don't come easy
Got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues
And you know it don't come easy
You don't have to shout or leap about
You can even play them easy
Forget about the past and all your sorrow
The future won't last
It will soon by your tomorrow
I don't ask for much
I only want trust
And you know it don't come easy
And this love of mine keeps growing all the time
And you know it just ain't easy
Open up your heart
Let's come together
Use a little luck
And we will make it work out better
Got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues
And you know it don't come easy
You don't have to shout or leap about
You can even play them easy
Please remember peace is how we make it
Here within your reach
If you're big enough to take it
I don't ask for much
I only want trust
And you know it don't come easy
And this love of mine keeps growing all the time
And you know it don't come easy

Song to Woody
I'm out here a thousand miles from my home,
Walkin' a road other men have gone down.
I'm seein' your world of people and things,
Your paupers and peasants and princes and kings.
Hey, hey Woody Guthrie, I wrote you a song
'Bout a funny ol' world that's a-comin' along.
Seems sick an' it's hungry, it's tired an' it's torn,
It looks like it's a-dyin' an' it's hardly been born.
Hey, Woody Guthrie, but I know that you know
All the things that I'm a-sayin' an' a-many times more.
I'm a-singin' you the song, but I can't sing enough,
'Cause there's not many men that done the things that you've done.
Here's to Cisco an' Sonny an' Leadbelly too,
An' to all the good people that traveled with you.
Here's to the hearts and the hands of the men
That come with the dust and are gone with the wind.
I'm a-leaving' tomorrow, but I could leave today,
Somewhere down the road someday.
The very last thing that I'd want to do
Is to say I've been hittin' some hard travelin' too.
B Dylan

Diamonds in the Mine
The woman in blue, she's asking for revenge,
the man in white -- that's you -- says he has no friends.
The river is swollen up with rusty cans
and the trees are burning in your promised land.
And there are no letters in the mailbox,
and there are no grapes upon the vine,
and there are no chocolates in the boxes anymore,
and there are no diamonds in the mine.
Well, you tell me that your lover has a broken limb,
you say you're kind of restless now and it's on account of him.
Well, I saw the man in question, it was just the other night,
he was eating up a lady where the lions and Christians fight.
And there are no letters in the mailbox
and there are no grapes upon the vine,
and there are no chocolates in the boxes anymore,
and there are no diamonds in the mine.
(You tell them now)
Ah, there is no comfort in the covens of the witch,
some very clever doctor went and sterilized the bitch,
and the only man of energy, yes the revolution's pride,
he trained a hundred women just to kill an unborn child.
And there are no letters in the mailbox,
oh no, there are no, no grapes upon your vine,
and there are, there are no chocolates in your boxes anymore,
and there are no diamonds in your mine.
And there are no letters in the mailbox,
and there are no grapes upon the vine,
and there are no chocolates in your boxes anymore,
and there are no diamonds in your mine.
