Neil Young

From Hank To Hendrix

From Hank to Hendrix
I walked these streets with you
Here I am with this old guitar
Doin' what I do.

I always expected
That you should see me through
I never believed in much
But I believed in you.

Can we get it together
Can we still stand side by side
Can we make it last
Like a musical ride?

From Marilyn to Madonna
I always loved your smile
Now we're headed
for the big divorce
California-style.

I found myself singin'
Like a long-lost friend
The same thing that makes you live
Can kill you in the end.

Can we get it together
Can we still stand side by side
Can we make it last
Like a musical ride?

Sometime it's distorted
Not clear to you
Sometimes the beauty of love
Just comes ringin' through.

New glass in the window
New leaf on the tree
New distance between us
You and me.

Can we get it together
Can we still walk side by side
Can we make it last
Like a musical ride?

BON JOVI - "Tokyo Road"

In a time, in a place
In a world, they forgot
Lives the heart of me
A part that just won't die
Just a boy, not a man
Sent to war, in a land
They said we'd fight for their freedom
But I felt like a hired hand

Sometimes I have to find my way
Sometimes I have to get away

[Chorus]
Take me back to Tokyo Road
Take me back to Tokyo Road

Working hard, for a pass
Got the night, make it last
It was a time to remember
All my life I would never forget
In a bar, breathing smoke
Snorting whiskey, drinking coke
It was a time when no one would die
And there wasn't a care

Sometimes I wish it was that way
Cause sometimes I have to get away

[Chorus]

This guy turns me around and he's pointing up the stairs
I found myself in her doorway but there wasn't anybody there
She walked in the room with nothing on but a red light
And with a smile she got so close to me.
She whispered something 'bout midnight
You know I didn't understand a word she said
But it felt so good
She knew that I didn't have any money
But baby I knew she would...

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors. Our Try did exactly what I would like to do, and that's put on a nice instrumental, and we can use our imagination can we not. <smile>

Thanks, edgar, for those great songs. I especially enjoyed "From Hank to Hendrix".

Hey, Walter. Fantastic preview of tonight's concert, Germany, or was that last evening. Hmmmm. Interesting song, buddy, but something of a surprise, no?

How about another "luck song"?

My Fair Lady Lyrics

With a Little Bit of Luck Lyrics

Alfred The Lord above gave man an arm of iron
So he could do his job and never shirk.
The Lord gave man an arm of iron-but
With a little bit of luck, With a little bit of luck,
Someone else'll do the blinkin' work! The three
With a little bit...with a little bit...
With a little bit of luck you'll never work!
Alfred The Lord above made liquor for temptation,
To see if man could turn away from sin.
The Lord above made liquor for temptation-but
With a little bit of luck, With a little bit of luck,
When temptation comes you'll give right in!
The three With a little bit...with a little bit...
With a little bit of luck you'll give right in.
Alfred Oh, you can walk the straight and narrow;
But with a little bit of luck You'll run amuck!
The gentle sex was made for man to marry,
To share his nest and see his food is cooked.
The gentle sex was made for man to marry-but
With a little bit of luck, With a little bit of luck,
You can have it all and not get hooked.
The three With a little bit...with a little bit...
With a little bit of luck you won't get hooked.
With a little bit...with a little bit...
With a little bit of bloomin' luck! Alfred
The Lord above made man to help is neighbor,
No matter where, on land, or sea, or foam.
The Lord above made man to help his neighbor-but
With a little bit of luck, With a little bit of luck,
When he comes around you won't be home! Jim and Harry
With a little bit...with a little bit...
With a little bit of luck, You won't be home.
Alfred They're always throwin' goodness at you;
But with a little bit of luck A man can duck!
Oh, it's a crime for man to go philandrin
And fill his wife's poor heart with grief and doubt.
Oh, it's a crime for man to go philanderin'-but
With a little bit of luck, With a little bit of luck,
You can see the bloodhound don't find out!
The three With a little bit...with a little bit...
With a little bit of luck she won't find out!
With a little bit...with a little bit...
With a little bit of bloomin' luck!
He doesn't have a tuppence in his pocket.
The poorest bloke you'll ever hope to meet.
He doesn't have a tuppence in his pocket-but
With a little bit of luck, With a little bit of luck,
He'll be movin' up to easy street.
With a little bit...with a little bit...
With a little bit of luck, He's movin' up.
With a little bit...with a little bit...
With a little bit of bloomin luck!

Well, well, Walter. I do wonder what this says about the audience. I am certain that you and Mrs. Walter enjoyed the experience without getting too wild. Razz Great photo, as usual, buddy.

As for me, coffee will do just fine.

There were noz mamy who could get wild .... we were short below the average age Laughing

And for playing something as encore: the audience applauded for more than 10 minutes until Clapton and the band came out - a bit disappointing, though the only thing which a didn't like yesterday.

Linda Ronstadt
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Years active 1967 - present

Linda Marie Ronstadt (born July 15, 1946) is an American singer most closely associated with the country rock genre prevalent in the 1970s. Though an occasional songwriter herself, she is better known as an interpreter of other songwriters' works.

Though she began her recording career singing folk music with her band the Stone Poneys in the mid- to late-1960s, Ronstadt has been credited as a solo artist with singing in extraordinarily diverse genres ranging from more traditional country to rhythm & blues and including, among others, new wave, opera and mariachi. In its biography on her artist page, Rolling Stone's Web site reads, "she doesn't succeed at every style she attempts, but that hasn't stopped her from exploring new avenuesÂ…. check out her Trio recordings with Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton; they are essential listening for fans of any kind of music."

Ronstadt's success is, in part, connected with the influence she had on or the influence she received from artists such as Harris, Parton, J.D. Souther, The Eagles, Andrew Gold, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Paul Simon, Mark Goldenberg, Karla Bonoff, Aaron Neville, James Taylor, Warren Zevon, Maria Muldaur, Nicolette Larson and Elvis Costello. Her reputation throughout the 1970s was of working with some of the most well-respected musicians in contemporary rock music but also of having her own strong sense of discipline.

Some of Ronstadt's better known hits are covers of songs by Zevon, Costello, Souther, the Rolling Stones, Mel Tillis, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, the Everly Brothers, George Jones, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Little Feat, Neil Young, the Miracles, Betty Everett and Buddy Holly and the Crickets.

Her work with producer Peter Asher from 1974 through the 1980s resulted in her greatest commercial success. By the end of the 1970s, Ronstadt had collected eight gold and four platinum certifications for her albums, a considerable feat at the time. She was often referred to then as the "highest paid woman in rock," able to command sell-out concerts in arenas hosting tens of thousands of fans despite a reputed stage shyness. In 1977, she appeared on the cover of Time magazine under the banner "Torchy Rock." Ronstadt has appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine six times.

Cover of 2002's The Very Best of Linda RonstadtRonstadt's success was also propelled in the late 1970s by a relationship with then-Governor Jerry Brown of California, a Democratic presidential hopeful. Their romance became the subject of many magazine articles and a Newsweek cover in April 1979. In the 1980s, Ronstadt had a long relationship with director George Lucas. Despite association with several male celebrities over the years, she has never married, but she adopted two children.

As of the end of 2005, Ronstadt has earned three No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, a No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, 10 Top 10 albums and 10 Top 10 singles. Her highest-selling studio albums are her 1977 release Simple Dreams, the 1983 set What's New, and her 1989 release Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind, each certified by the Recording Industry Association of America for 3 million units shipped. Her highest-selling album of all time is the 1976 Greatest Hits compilation, certified seven times platinum in 2001. In all, Ronstadt has been certified by the RIAA for 30 million copies of singles and albums shipped and has won 10 Grammy Awards in fields including pop, country, tropical Latin and Mexican-American.

Ronstadt currently resides in a northwestern suburb of Tucson, Ariz., known as Sweetwater.

Early career

Linda Ronstadt was born in Tucson, Arizona to a father of Mexican and German ancestry and a mother of Dutch Jewish-English descent. While she was a student at the University of Arizona in Tucson, she met guitarist Bob Kimmel. The duo moved to Los Angeles, where guitarist/songwriter Kenny Edwards joined the pair. Calling themselves the Stone Poneys, the group became a leading attraction on California's folk circuit, recording their first album in 1967. She scored her first hit single in 1967, as the lead singer for the Stone Poneys, with the song Different Drum, written by Monkees member Michael Nesmith. [1]

Her first solo hit single came in 1970, with the country rock crossover single, Long Long Time. She achieved her greatest commercial success during the 1970s, with a string of platinum albums, as she branched out from the earlier country rock sound to include more conventional rock, often covering early classics from the 1950s and early 1960s.

Fame and success

Linda Ronstadt, circa 1982 photo from "What's New" Lp inner sleeve and also used as the cover of her 4 CD retrospective titled "Box Set"Her breakthrough year was 1974, when she released a series of hits beginning with the single You're No Good, followed by When Will I Be Loved, Heat Wave, That'll Be the Day, and It's So Easy. She reached number one on the Billboard magazine charts with her 1974 album Heart Like a Wheel, and followed that up with the number-one albums Simple Dreams in 1977 and Living in the U.S.A. in 1978. In 1980 she released an album of new wave covers of such artists as Elvis Costello and The Cretones, an album which entered the Billboard album charts in the Top 5 its first week, and continued her streak of hits with Hurt So Bad, How Do I Make You, and I Can't Let Go.

Throughout this period Ronstadt was perhaps the leading female sex symbol in rock music, reaching the peak of attention in 1976 when Rolling Stone published an alluring collection of photographs taken by Annie Leibovitz. Ronstadt later said that she had mixed and troubled feelings about this level of attention. [2] Ronstadt gained further general media focus when she dated Jerry Brown, then Governor of California, in the late 1970s.

In addition to pop-rock hits such as her popular version of the Roy Orbison hit, "Blue Bayou", and duets with Aaron Neville that received much critical acclaim, her long singing career has been filled with an eclectic mix of recordings, including Big Band sounds, Mexican canciones, an album of old-time country music, an album of Latin music, and an album of rock classics redone as lullabies. Her recording of three albums of pop standards with Nelson Riddle helped spark a revival of that form among younger audiences in the early-mid 1980s.

After appearing in the Central Park and Broadway productions of The Pirates of Penzance from 1980-1982, Ronstadt co-starred with Kevin Kline and Angela Lansbury in a 1983 motion picture based on this Gilbert and Sullivan opera.

In 1987, Ronstadt, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris released their long-awaited Trio album, which they first conceived ten years earlier, to critical acclaim. The album won a Grammy and spawned four top-ten country singles. (They followed it up with a second album, Trio 2 in 1999.)

Showing her versatility yet again, in 1996 Ronstadt released Dedicated to the One I Love, an album of children's music. In a career spanning four decades, she has recorded more than forty albums, her latest a return to her roots in pop-rock ballads.

Controversy

On July 18, 2004, during a performance at the Aladdin Casino in Las Vegas, Ronstadt praised Michael Moore and his documentary film Fahrenheit 9/11. It was reported that some members of the audience walked out, tore down posters, threw drinks, and demanded she be removed from the stage. Initial reports were that Aladdin president Bill Timmins escorted her out of the premises without having a chance to go to her hotel suite to obtain her property, and vowed that, as long as he was running the casino, she would no longer be welcome. At the same time, it was reported that the angry shouts and boos were overpowered by cheers and people clapping. However, Ronstadt says that the media reports were inaccurate. She was not aware of anyone throwing drinks, was not escorted off the premises, and it was not until later that she learned Aladdin's management was angry. "I didn't know they were mad at me until we were gone, and I didn't know what they were mad at me about until about an hour later, when apparently they called up one of the people that was traveling with us and went, 'She's talking about Michael Moore, and this is a place for entertainment, not politics'" Ronstadt said. Ronstadt had previously been quoted in the Las Vegas Review-Journal that she was not fond of playing in Vegas, and hoped that she would annoy them enough not to ask her back.

The Aladdin is undergoing bankruptcy proceedings, however, and Robert Earl, CEO of Planet Hollywood, the corporation which will be taking controlling interest of the Aladdin when it emerges from bankruptcy protection, was quoted as saying that he would like to take Moore up on the film maker's offer to join Ronstadt on the Aladdin stage to sing America the Beautiful.

Dedicated to The One I Love :: Linda Ronstadt

While I'm far away from you my baby
I know it's hard for you my baby
Because it's hard for me my baby
And the darkest hour is just before dawn

Each night before you go to bed my baby
Whisper a little prayer for me my baby
And tell all the stars above
This is dedicated to the one I love

Life can never be
Exactly like we want it to be
It makes me happy
Just knowing that you love me
There's one thing I want you to do
Especially for me
And it's something that everybody needs

Each night before you go to bed my baby
Whisper a little prayer for me my baby
And tell all the stars above
This is dedicated to the one I love

Jan-Michael Vincent
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jan-Michael Vincent (born July 15, 1944) is an American actor most well-known for his role as helicopter pilot Stringfellow Hawke on the 1980s U.S. television series Airwolf (1984-1986). Vincent had an extensive television and film career that began in the late 1960s and lasted until the early 2000s. He is currently said to be retired from acting. Vincent is also notorious for his alcoholism and drug abuse, which derailed his acting career.

Early life

Vincent was born in Denver, Colorado to Doris and Lloyd Vincent. His family moved to Hanford, California when Jan-Michael was in his teens. Vincent attended Ventura College in Southern California.

Career

Vincent's acting career started in the late 1960s when casting agent Dick Clayton signed Vincent to Universal Studios, where Vincent appeared in a TV film called Tribes. Vincent also appeared in the Disney film The World's Greatest Athlete as a Tarzan-like young man who becomes a great professional athlete. He also appeared in the "Danger Island" segments on Hanna-Barbera's Banana Splits series as Link.

Vincent became a popular and acclaimed film star during the 1970s, especially for his co-starring role with Charles Bronson in the crime film The Mechanic. Other notable films included the Western Undefeated with John Wayne and the surfing film Big Wednesday with William Katt and Gary Busey. In 1980, he starred in the gang-themed drama, Defiance, which received only a limited release,[1] and in The Return, a little-seen science-fiction film which was released directly to television and video.

After an acclaimed performance in the 1983 television miniseries The Winds of War, Jan-Michael Vincent was cast as Stringfellow Hawke for the action-espionage series Airwolf, in which Vincent co-starred with Ernest Borgnine. It is probably the role for which Vincent is best known and remembered, and one for which he was especially well paid. It was noted at the time that Vincent's salary for his work on Airwolf was the highest paid of any actor in American television at the time.

After the end of Airwolf, Vincent's acting career took a downturn, and he found himself in increasingly small-budget and low-exposure film projects that typically went direct-to-video. Vincent had long been a hard drinker and user of illegal drugs, and his constant inebriation had put him out of good graces with much of the Hollywood community. In 1985, his close friend and neighbor, a former U.S. Marine Sergeant, Earl Stevenson, tried to talk to him about his abuse problem.

Private life

Jan-Michael Vincent was involved in an automobile accident in 1996 in which he broke three vertebrae. The accident permanently injured his vocal cords, leaving him with a harsh, rasping voice. This further diminished his attractiveness to film producers as an actor.

Little news has been heard from Jan-Michael Vincent in recent years. It is rumored that he retired from acting in the early 2000s and is now living in seclusion in Mississippi, where alcoholism continues to afflict him. There are reports of people seeing him in and around Redwood, Mississippi as of late 2004. His last role was in 2002 in the movie White Boy.

Vincent has a daughter named Amber Springbird Vincent from his first marriage.

Four brothers left home for college, and they became successful
doctors and lawyers and prospered.

Some years later, they chatted after having dinner together. They
discussed the gifts they were able to give their elderly mother who
lived far away in another city.

The first said, "I had a big house built for Momma."

The second said, "I had a hundred thousand dollar theater built in
the house."

The third said, "I had my Mercedes dealer deliver an SL600 to her."

The fourth said, "You know how Momma loved reading the Bible and you
know she can't read anymore because she can't see very well. I met
this preacher who told me about a parrot that can recite the entire
bible. It took twenty preachers 12 years to teach him. I had to
pledge to contribute $100,000 a year for twenty years to the church,
but it was worth it. Mamma just has to name the chapter and verse and
the parrot will recite it."

The other brothers were impressed.

After the holidays Mom sent out her Thank You notes. She wrote:

"Milton, the house you built is so huge. I live in only one room, but
I have to clean the whole house. Thanks anyway."

"Marvin, I am too old to travel. I stay home, I have my groceries
delivered, so I never use the Mercedes. The thought was good. Thanks"

"Michael, you gave me an expensive theater with Dolby sound, it could
hold 50 people, but all of my friends are dead, I've lost my hearing
and I'm nearly blind. I'll never use it. Thank you for the gesture
just the same."

"Dearest Melvin, you were the only son to have the good sense to give
a little thought to your gift. The chicken was delicious.

Thank you."

Well, listeners, our hawkman has signaled the end of his celeb background when he tells us a great story about Mamma. Love it, Boston.

Our Walter will enjoy Linda's life story. She is a great vocalist, right?

I suppose that Clive ought to sue, because that movie was the worst adaptation of the book SAHARA that I have ever seen. Raise the Titanic was awful as well. I am certain that our Raggedy will be along shortly to depict for us the faces that may escape our memory.

From Linda, folks, a great jazz ballad:

Artist/Band: Ronstadt Linda
Lyrics for Song: I Fall In Love Too Easily

I fall in love too easily
I fall in love too fast
I fall in love too terribly hard
For love to ever last
My heart should be well-schooled
'Cause I been fooled in the past
But still I fall in love too easily
I fall in love too fast

I fall in love too easily
I fall in love too fast
I fall in love too terribly hard
For love to ever last
My heart should be well-schooled
'Cause I been fooled in the past
But still I fall in love too easily
I fall in love too fast.

Lovely, no?

"Lost In Your Eyes" - Debbie Gibson

I get lost in your eyes
And I feel my spirits rise
And soar like the wind...
Is it love that I am in?

I get weak in a glance
Isn't this what's called romance?
And now I know
'Cause when I'm lost I can't let go

I don't mind not knowing what I'm headed for
You can take me to the skies...
It's like being lost in heaven
When I'm lost in your eyes

I just fell, don't know why
Something's there we can't deny..
And when I first knew
Was when I first looked at you

And if I can't find my way
If salvation seems worlds away
Oh, I'll be found
When I am lost in your eyes

I don't mind not knowing what I'm headed for
You can take me to the skies...
It's like being lost in heaven
When I'm lost in your eyes

I get weak in a glance
Isn't this what's called romance?
Oh, I'll be found
When I am lost in your eyes

Well, listeners, there's our butterfly who has drifted in through our studio window and played a lovely song of romance. Thank you, dear. We all get taken in by that seven letter word once in a while.

Here's one dedicated to all the love lorn in our listening audience.

Once in a while,
Won't you try to give one little thought to me.
Though someone else may be,
Nearer your heart.

Once in a while,
Won't you think of the moments I shared with you,
Moments before we two drifted apart.

(bridge)
In love's smouldering embers
One thought may remain,
If love still can remember,
That thought may burn again,

Oh, I know that I'd
Be contented with yesterday's memories,
If only you'll think of me,
Once in a while.

"Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely" - Backstreet Boys

Show me the meaning of being lonely

So many words for the broken heart
It's hard to see in a crimson love
So hard to breathe
Walk with me, and maybe
Nights of light so soon become
Wild and free I could feel the sun
Your every wish will be done

They tell me..

Show me the meaning of being lonely
Is this the feeling I need to walk with?
Tell me why I can't be there where you are?
There's something missing in my heart

Life goes on as it never ends
Eyes of stone observe the trends
They never say forever gaze
Guilty roads to an endless love
There's no control
Are you with me now?
Your every wish will be done

They tell me...

Show me the meaning of being lonely
Is this the feeling I need to walk with?
Tell me why I can't be there where you are?
There's something missing in my heart

There's nowhere to run
I have no place to go
Surrender my heart, body and soul
How can it be you're asking me to feel the things you never show?

You are missing in my heart
Tell me why I can't be where you are?

Show me the meaning of being lonely
Is this the feeling I need to walk with?
Tell me why I can't be there where you are?
There's something missing in my heart...

Buck Owens & Rose Maddox

Mental cruelty, that's what I heard her say
Mental cruelty to the judge that day
I sat there in silence so she could be free
And listened to her lying words mental cruelty.

Your Honor, since our marriage
My life's not been the same
Why, I'm missing out on all the fun
And he's the one to blame.

There's never any excitement now
The way there used to be
And sharing his way of life
Is mental cruelty, mental cruelty.

Divorce has been granted
For many different things
Even when there's not a reason
And when no one can be blamed.

With only two little words
Why she's on her merry way
Yes, all the woman has to claim
Is mental cruelty, mental cruelty...

Only the lonely, butterfly, and we've all been there as well.

Hey, Texas. That song speaks to the courts, no? Then there is that old "irreconcilable differences."

By request, listeners, the view from a woman:

Artist: Christina Aguilera
Song: What a Girl Wants

What a girl wants, what a girl needs,
Whatever makes me happy and sets you free.
What a girl wants, what a girl needs,
Whatever keeps me in your arms.
And I'm thanking you for being there for me.

Like a rock you waited so patiently, while I got it together.
While I figured it out, I only looked but I never touched,
'Cause in my heart was a picture of us:
Holding hands, making plans,
And it's lucky for me, you understand.

What a girl wants, what a girl needs,
Whatever makes me happy and sets you free.
And I'm thanking you for knowing exactly...
What a girl wants, what a girl needs,
Whatever keeps me in your arms.
And I'm thanking you for being there for me.

A weaker man might have walked away, but you had faith
Strong enough to move over and understand, while I got it together.
While I figured it out, they say, "If you love something let it go.
If it comes back it's yours, and that's how you know.
It's for keeps, yeah, it's for sure."
And you're ready and willing to give me more

What a girl wants, what a girl needs,
Whatever makes me happy and sets you free.
And I'm thanking you for knowing exactly...
What a girl wants, what a girl needs,
Whatever keeps me in your arms.
And I'm thanking you for being there for me.

Somebody sensitive and tough;
Somebody there when the going gets rough;
Every night, he'll be giving his love
To just one girl... one girl... one.
Somebody cool but real tender too;
Somebody, baby, just like you
Can keep me hangin' around with the one who always knew.
I'm thankin' you for being there for me.

What a girl wants, what a girl needs,
Whatever makes me happy and sets you free.
And I'm thanking you for knowing exactly...
What a girl wants, what a girl needs,
Whatever keeps me in your arms.
And I'm thanking you for being there for me.

and good morning to you, Raggedy. Well, dear, that picture of Jan-Michael Vincent restores our faith in the trite expression: One picture says a thousand words. Of course, most of the time I think it is the inverse. <smile> What a very sad story of a man's life is his. I know that I have seen the man in at least one film, but I can't recall it at the moment.

Speaking of visuals, folks. I watched a Stephen King vignette last evening hoping it would put me to sleep; however, that wasn't the case. Although it began in the rather overdone fashion of Dracula, I found myself wanting to watch it until the end. What a marvelous surprise to find that for once, Mr. King surprised me and it was so very different than what I had expected. I am certain this brief review won't be a spoiler.

This particular Dracula turned out to be Judas, whose attempt to hang himself, did not succeed, and thus he became the undead, wreaking havoc on his victims. See if you can guess how it all turned out.
