Hi Bob.
Paul must have changed the words later. I copied the lyrics while listening to him sing it. The "gonna tell your pa on your" is not on the CD I have. He also did two versions of "Old Man River". On one CD he sings: That's the man I don't want to be.

Love it, listeners. As Ellinas and Walter talk of money and it's precarious position, Raggedy and Bob discuss the changing of the lyrics.

How about this different version of Tony Bennett's "When the World was Young."

French beat the Italians to this one. (no, not soccer Razz )

Lyrics are by Johnny Mercer & Angele Vannier
Music by Philippe Bloch
Song written in 1950

It isn't by chance I happen to be,
A boulevardier, the toast of Paris.
For over the noise, the talk and the smoke,
I'm good for a laugh, a drink or a joke.
I walk in a room, a party or ball,
"Come sit over here" somebody will call.
"A drink for M'sieur, a drink for us all!
But how many times I stop and recall.

Ah, the apple trees,
Blossoms in the breeze,
That we walked among,
Lying in the hay,
Games we used to play,
While the rounds were sung,
Only yesterday when the world was young.

Wherever I go they mention my name,
And that in itself, is some sort of fame,
"Come by for a drink, we're having a game,"
Wherever I go I'm glad that I came.
The talk is quite gay, the company fine,
There's laughter and lights, and glamour and wine,
And beautiful girls and some of them mine,
But often my eyes see a diff'rent shine.

Ah, the apple trees,
Sunlit memories,
Where the hammock swung,
On our backs we'd lie,
Looking at the sky,
Till the stars were strung,
Only last July when the world was young.

While sitting around, we often recall,
The laugh of the year, the night of them all.
The blonde who was so attractive that year,
Some opening night that made us all cheer.
Remember that time we all got so tight,
And Jacques and Antoine got into a fight.
The gendarmes who came, passed out like a light,
I laugh with the rest, it's all very bright.

Ah, the apple trees,
And the hive of bees
Where we once got stung,
Summers at Bordeaux,
Rowing the bateau,
Where the willow hung,
Just a dream ago, when the world was young.

Good morning all, I see…

A NEW DAY HAS COME (RADIO REMIX)
CELINE DION Lyrics

A new day...
A new day...

I was waiting for so long
For a miracle to come
Everyone told me to be strong
Hold on and don't shed a tear

Through the darkness and good times
I knew I'd make it through
And the world thought I had it all
But I was waiting for you

Hush now

I see a light in the sky
Oh, it's almost blinding me
I can't believe
I've been touched by an angel with love

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new, new sun

A new day has... come

Where it was dark now there's light
Where there was pain now there's joy
Where there was weakness, I found my strength
All in the eyes of a boy

Hush now

I see a light in the sky
Oh, it's almost blinding me
I can't believe
I've been touched by an angel with love

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new, new sun

A new day has...

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new, new sun

A new day has... come

Ohhh, a light

Hush now

I see a light in your eyes
All in the eyes of the boy

I can't believe
I've been touched by an angel with love

I can't believe
I've been touched by an angel with love

Hush now

Hush now

Welcome back, Try. How lovely, buddy. You are always so inspirational.

Speaking of diamonte, Here's one by Neil:

BEAUTIFUL NOISE

Written by Neil Diamond
What a beautiful noise
Comin' up from the street
Got a beautiful sound
It's got a beautiful beat

It's a beautiful noise
Goin' on everywhere
Like the clickety-clack
Of a train on a track
It's got a rhytm to spare

It's a beautiful noise
And it's a sound that I love
And it fits me as well
As a hand in a glove
Yes it does, yes it does

What a beautiful noise
Comin' up from the park
It's the song of this kids
And it plays until dark

It's the song of the cars
On their furious flights
But there's even romance
In the way that they dance
To the beat of the lights

It's a beautiful noise
And it's a sound that I love
And ist makes me feel good
Like a hand in a glove
Yes it does, yes it does
What a beautiful noise

It's a beautiful noise
Made of joy and of strife
Like a symphony played
By the passing parade
It's the music of life

What a beautiful noise
Comin' into my room
And it's beggin' for me
Just to give it a tune

Letty, i've been scribbling in a thread about a village, so here's a fave by the village people Laughing

Young man, there's no need to feel down
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground
I said, young man, 'cause your in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy

Young man, there's a place you can go
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
They have everything for you men to enjoy
You can hang out with all the boys

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
You can get yourself clean
You can have a good meal
You can do whatever you feel

Young man, are you listening to me
I said, young man, what do you want to be
I said, young man, you can make real your dreams
But you've got to know this one thing

No man, does it all by himself
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf
And just go there, to the Y.M.C.A.
I'm sure they can help you today

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
They have everything for you men to enjoy
You can hang out with all the boys

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
You can get yourself clean
You can have a good meal
You can do whatever you feel

Young man, I was once in your shoes
I said, I was down and out with the blues
I felt, no man cared if I were alive
I felt the whole world was so jive

That's when someone came up to me
And said young man take a walk up the street
There's a place there called the Y.M.C.A.
They can start you back on your way

It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.
They have everything for you men to enjoy
You can hang out with all the boys

Y.M.C.A.
You'll find it at the Y.M.C.A.
Young man, young man, there's no need to feel down
Young man, young man, pick yourself off the ground

Y.M.C.A.
Just go to the Y.M.C.A.
Young man, young man, are you listening to me
Young man, young man, what did you want to be

Y.M.C.A.
You'll find it at the Y.M.C.A.
No man, young man, does it all by himself
Young man, young man, put your pride on the shelf

Hey, Mr. Turtle. Love it. Did you know that there's a dance that goes with that one, and one must be able to make the letters with their arms; however, don't try it after having a couple of ouzo's. Razz

And, incidentally, M.D. You don't scribble, honey. You paint. <smile>

All right, listeners. Let's play one by Woody:

Lyrics as recorded by Woody Guthrie, RCA Studios, Camden, NJ, 26 Apr 1940, released on "Dust Bowl Ballads," transcribed by Manfred Helfert.
© 1958 Sanga Music Inc., New York, NY

If you'll gather 'round me, children,
A story I will tell
'Bout Pretty Boy Floyd, an outlaw,
Oklahoma knew him well.
It was in the town of Shawnee,
A Saturday afternoon,
His wife beside him in his wagon
As into town they rode.

There a deputy sheriff approached him
In a manner rather rude,
Vulgar words of anger,
An' his wife she overheard.

Pretty Boy grabbed a log chain,
And the deputy grabbed his gun;
In the fight that followed
He laid that deputy down.

Then he took to the trees and timber
To live a life of shame;
Every crime in Oklahoma
Was added to his name.

But a many a starving farmer
The same old story told
How the outlaw paid their mortgage
And saved their little homes.

Others tell you 'bout a stranger
That come to beg a meal,
Underneath his napkin
Left a thousand dollar bill.

It was in Oklahoma City,
It was on a Christmas Day,
There was a whole car load of groceries
Come with a note to say:

Well, you say that I'm an outlaw,
You say that I'm a thief.
Here's a Christmas dinner
For the families on relief.

Yes, as through this world I've wandered
I've seen lots of funny men;
Some will rob you with a six-gun,
And some with a fountain pen.

And as through your life you travel,
Yes, as through your life you roam,
You won't never see an outlaw
Drive a family from their home.

Love it!

word for the day: fortuitous.

Hawkwind -
Seven By Seven Lyrics

Lost am I in this world
Of timelessness and woe
Can I find the doorways
Through which I must go
Is the key to this plane
Too much for me to try to gain
Is the passport to this
World my astral soul

Seven signs rode on seven stars
Seven ways to find the long lost bards
Seven days became seven years
While Pocus laughed and called foul jeers
Seven times he cursed the seven tears
Each one became their seven fears
What is lost is never gained again
I've cast the spell that eternity chains
No more to cry O' mortal soul
The astral path is now your fortuitous role

Lost am I in this world
Of timelessness and woe
Can I find the doorways
Through which I must go
Is the key to this plane
Too much for me to try to gain
Is the passport to this
World my astral soul

had a fairly major accident last night, wrote off the company van, but amazingly no serious injuries to anyone involved

the same cannot be said for the person in this next song

Movie Star
Cracker

Well the movie star, well she crashed her car.
But everyone said she was beautiful even without her head.
Everyone said she was dangerous.

Well the chief of police kept the crime off the streets.
But deep in his heart, we all knew he felt differently.
We all knew he was an anarchist.

Chorus: Well I - I'd like to devour you
But you - You'd prob'ly devour me.

For your golden wheat, for your oat bran head.
Deep in my heart
Girl you're a beautiful animal
I'll put a tag on your ear.

Well the movie star, well she crashed her car.
But everyone said she was beautiful even without her head.
Everyone said she was dangerous.

Well the chief of police kept the crime off the streets.
But deep in his heart we all knew he felt differently.
We all knew he was an anarchist.

Well I - I'd like to devour you
But you - You'd prob'ly devour me.

Repeat

Girl you're a beautiful animal.
(8 times)

dj, all things considered, i guess things turned out fortuitously for you.

I'm down to a roll of dimes
I'm stalking the slot that's hot
I keep hearing bells all around me
Jingling in the lucky jackpots
They keep you tantalized
They keep you reaching for your wallet
Here in fools' paradise!

I talked to a cat from Des Moines
He said he ran a cleaning plant
That cat was clanking with coin
Well, he must have had a genie in a lamp
'Cause every time-I dropped a dime-I blew it
He kept ringing bells
Nothing to it!

He got three oranges
Three lemons
Three cherries
Three plums
I'm losing my taste for fruit
Watching the dry cleaner do it
Like Midas in a polyester suit
It's all luck!
It's just luck!
You get a little lucky and you make a little money!

I followed him down the strip
He picked out a booth at Circus Circus
Where the cowgirls fill the room
With their big balloons
The Cleaner was pitching with purpose!
He had Dinos and Pooh Bears
And lions-pink and blue there
He couldn't lose there!

Des Moines was stacking the chips
Raking off the tables
Ringing the bandit's bells
This is a story that's a drag to tell
(In some ways)
Since I lost every dime
I laid on the line
But the cleaner from Des Moines
Could put a coin
In the door of a John
And get twenty for one
It's just luck!

Glad you are ok Dj, heres one from Primus for you in line with Yitwails song.

My socks and shoes always match
Is It Luck?
There's a foot at the end of each of my legs
Is It Luck?
I can play my bass for you
Is It Luck?
Some girls like to kiss my face
Is It Luck? Is It Luck?

There's food inside your mouth today
Is It Luck?
The barber cuts your hair just sooooooo
Is It Luck?
When the taste of sex is on your lips
Is It Luck? Is It Luck? well Ler

These songs always sound so fast
Is It Luck?
Polyester makes you sweat
Is It Luck?
If a graham cracker gets you off
Is It Luck?
Love, love,
Is It Luck? well Herb

She said she wanted my body and not my mind
so I showed her my dictionary to show the
words that I know and from not what I examined
I can be how loquacious when I set my mind down to it

And she wasn't impressed

no no no no no no no
no no no no no no no
no no no no no

She wasn't impressed at all.
She whispered in my ear!

She whispered in my ear
she said, "You wanna get lucky little boy?"

Oh I smiled

I smiled and I said, "Is It Luck"

Wow! Try that is one astral projection, buddy. Haunting, my friend.

Time for a poem to go with Hawkwind:

Writer: Karen Godson

Astral Projection

Your silhouette is forever burned

onto the inside of my eyelids.

I study your face from across the room,

across the Universe,

so that your flawless features

are branded on my soul.

Your sizzling stare

burns hunger into my heart.

The mist that is my essence

drifts across the floor,

pressing its moist ghost-mouth to yours.

Tasting your curiosity,

smelling your arousal,

feeling your quivering,

knowing your longing,

I ease back into my body;

into consciousness.

Your eyes, still staring,

tell of a knowing,

a secret,

that says I reached you.

dj, that was a scary revelation, Canada. Just glad that our wonder man is all right. Why do I think Jane at the lyrics to your song:

and with a little bit of luck, sublime, this may be Chicago time.

Henry Mancini:

They call us lucky, you and I,
Lucky girl, lucky guy.
When you take my hand or touch my cheek,
I know I'm on a lifetime lucky streak.
A lucky rainbow lights the sky
When we kiss, when we sigh.

(First time:)
They say I'm lucky, mister lucky guy,
And you're the reason why.

(Last time:)
They say you're lucky, mister lucky guy,
But darling, so am I.

Paul McCartney

With A Little Luck, We Can Help It Out.
We Can Make This Whole Damn Thing Work Out.
With A Little Love, We Can Lay It Down.
Can't You Feel The Town Exploding?
There Is No End To What We Can Do Together.
There Is No End, There Is No End.
The Willow Turns His Back On Inclement Weather;
And If He Can Do It, We Can Do It, Just Me And You,

And A Little Luck, We Can Clear It Up.
We Can Bring It In For A Landing,
With A Little Luck, We Can Turn It On.
There Can Be No Misunderstanding.

There Is No End To What We Can Do Together.
There Is No End, There Is No End.
The Willow Turns His Back On Inclement Weather;
We Can Do It, Just Me And You.

With A Little Push, We Could Set It Off.
We Can Send It Rocketing Skywards.
With A Little Love, We Could Shake It Up.
Don't You Feel The Comet Exploding?

With A Little Luck.
With A Little Luck.
With A Little Luck, A Little Luck, A Little Luck.
With A Little Luck.
With A Little Luck.

With a little luck, we could set it off
We could send it rocketing skywards
With a litle love, we could shake it up.
Don't you feel the comet exploding, forwards. Oo-oo-oo
