Well, there's our Francis. Hmmm. I've seen you be grumpy at times, Paris. Any hearts and flowers requests for today. <smile>

Here's one from Neil and Babs:

Barbra
You don't bring me flowers
You don't sing me love songs
Neil
You hardly talk to me anymore
When you come through that door at the end of the day...
Barbra
I remember when you couldn't wait to love me
Used to hate to leave me
Now after loving me late at night
Neil
When it's good for you, babe
And you're feeling all right
Barbra
When you just roll over and turn out the light...
And you don't bring me flowers anymore
Neil
It used to be so natural
Barbra
It used to be...
Neil
To talk about forever
Barbra
Mmm...
Neil
But used-to-bes don't count anymore
They just lay on the floor
Till we sweep them away
Barbra
And baby i remember all the things you taught me
Neil
I learned how to laugh and i learned how to cry
Barbra
Well, i learned how to love and i learned how to lie
Neil
So you think i could learn how to tell you goodbye
Barbra
So you think i could learn how to tell you goodbye
You don't bring me flowers any more...
Both
Well, you think i could learn how to tell you goodbye...
Neil
cause you don't say you need me;
Barbra
You don't sing me love songs;
Both
You don't bring me flowers anymore...

THIS JUST IN

On the agriculture scene, we may all be kissing chocolate adieu within 10 years. The fungus "Frosty Fungus" and "Witches Broom fungus" are decimating , nay wiping out, Central American chocolate plantations. Fears are rising that, should the viri spread to the chocolate growing areas of Africa, since they are so geographically closely spaced, the plant could go extinct before scientists have a chance to genetically engineer a resistant variety. It appears that chocolate, like the passenger pigeon and the dodo, may be merely a thing of memory.

This is especially bad news for the hundreds of millions of people world wide whove developed an addiction to the product.
As fdor me, this reporter couldnt care one jot. Now had the news been about a TAbasco shortage, thatd be entirely different.

Good Morning all.

Hattie McDaniel and Paul Robeson were a great twosome on "I Still Suits Me" in Show Boat (1936), but the net says the artist doesn't wish to disclose the lyrics. Confused

Here's to Hattie:

farmer, what a nice surprise. Welcome to our little studio, buddy. You mean that all us chocolata lovers will be deprived of Lady Godiva?

Frankly, listeners, I think that candy is way overpriced and not very good.

Aha! Tabasco is used in a drink called the Charlottesville Transfusion. Razz

Ms. Letty, i don't care for godiva either, but hot carob doesn't have the same ring as hot chocolate:

I believe in miracles
Where you from you sexy thing
I believe in miracles
Since you came along you sexy thing

Where did you come from, baby
How did ya' know I needed you
How did ya' know I needed you so badly
How did ya' know I'd give my heart gladly

Hey, m.d., Belgium chocolate is delicious. Love that song, incidentally.

Wonder if our Walter is celebrating? I see that Germans are trying to keep the crowds calm.

A calm song?

Storm
Cyndi Lauper/R. Derringer
I can get up
On the right side of the bed
But that won't stop the rain
From coming down on my head
I can live my life
Playing hide and seek
But when I look inside
It's hard to make believe,
Ah ah

'n lately
You seem so far away
I wish I could say something
But I don't know what to say
I can feel your eyes
I don't have to look at you
Boy, discontentment
Is-a-sneakin' through

You never really want anything
But what you really need is everything
I'll give you something only life can bring
The calm inside the storm
Love me a little, love me long
Wo yeah
The calm inside the storm
Love me a little, love me long
Don't you know
You should be holding me
But you're all locked inside
Why don't you throw me your keys
I'm like a rockin' ship
On your rollin' sea
You know crash lightnin'
Never frightens me, nah

...You never really wanted
But what u really needed
I wanna give u something
mmm... the calm inside the storm
Love me a little, love me long
Love me a little, love me long

A sad face? Well, upon my word, Francis. In an instant life can change, no?

Well, Sinatra says it rather well:

It's the good life, full of fun, seems to be the ideal,
Yes, the good life, lest you hide all the sadness you feel,
You won't really fall in love 'cause you can't take the
chance,
So be honest with yourself, don't try to fake romance.
Yes, the good life, to be free and explore the unknown,
Like the heartache when you learn you must face them alone,
Please remember I still want you and in case you wonder why,
Well, just wake up, kiss that good life goodbye.

[musical interlude]

Please remember I still want you and in case you wonder why,
Well, just wake up, kiss that good life goodbye.

Good morning all, on such a lovely day it's true…

I Believe I Can Fly
R KELLY LYRICS

I used to think that I could not go on
And life was nothing but an awful song
But now I know the meaning of true love
I'm leaning on the everlasting arms

If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

[1] - I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly

See I was on the verge of breaking down
Sometimes silence can seem so loud
There are miracles in life I must achieve
But first I know it starts inside of me, oh

If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

[Repeat 1]

Hey, cuz I believe in me, oh

If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

[Repeat 1]

Hey, if I just spread my wings
I can fly
I can fly
I can fly, hey
If I just spread my wings
I can fly
Fly-eye-eye

I don't know about today, but…

One Hundred Years From Now Lyrics
The Byrds

One hundred years from this day
Will the people still feel this way
Still say things that they're saying right now
Everyone said I'd hurt you
They said that I'd desert you
If I go away you know I'm gonna get back some how

Nobody knows what kind of trouble we're in
Nobody seems to think it all might happen again

One hundred years from this time
Would anybody change their mind
And find out one thing or two about life
People are always talking
You know they're always talking
Everybody's so wrong that I know it's gonna work out fine

Nobody knows what kind of trouble we're in
Nobody seems to think it all might happen again

Well, folks, we can talk about years, but how about miles?

Lyrics - 500 Miles (Away From Home) Lyrics

(As recorded by Glen Campbell)
(From the album 'A Satisfied Mind')

If you miss the train I'm on
You will know that I am gone
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
Lord I'm one, Lord I'm two, Lord I'm three, Lord I'm four
I'm 500 miles away from home

Not a shirt on my back
Not a penny to my name
Lord I can't go back this a'way
This a'way, this a'way, this a'way, this a'way
Lord I can't go back this a'way

Well, I'm walking these ties,
With tears in my eyes
Trying to read a letter from my home
From my home, from my home, from my home, from my home
Trying to read a letter from my home

If this train's running right
I'll be home by Saturday night
I'm 500 miles away from home
Away from home, away from home, away from home. away from home
I'm 500 miles away from home

Wonder if Glen is better?

HOME - Jerry Lee Lewis
Written by Roger Miller

Well, I've been a traveler most of my life
Never took a home, never took a wife
Ran away young and decided to roam
Wanna see my mama and my daddy back home

CHORUS:
Home, where the river runs cold
The water tastes good, the winters ain't cold
Home, where the trees grow tall
The home fires burn, the whippoorwills call

I remember stories that my daddy used to tell
My eyes would get big, and his chest would swell
I could sit for hours and listen with glee
As he'd tell of how he lived when he's a boy like me

REPEAT CHORUS

Well, mama dear, mama do you still love your boy
After all my roamin' can I still bring you joy
Mom sent a letter, got it not long ago
She said "come home, I'm missin' you so

I missed the train because…

YOU AINT GOIN NOWHERE
Bob Dylan Lyrics

Clouds so swift
Rain won't lift
Gate won't close
Railings froze
Get your mind off wintertime
You ain't goin' nowhere
Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day
My bride's gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!

I don't care
How many letters they sent
Morning came and morning went
Pick up your money
And pack up your tent
You ain't goin' nowhere
Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day
My bride's gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!

Buy me a flute
And a gun that shoots
Tailgates and substitutes
Strap yourself
To the tree with roots
You ain't goin' nowhere
Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day
My bride's gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!

Genghis Khan
He could not keep
All his kings
Supplied with sleep
We'll climb that hill no matter how steep
When we get up to it
Whoo-ee! Ride me high
Tomorrow's the day
My bride's gonna come
Oh, oh, are we gonna fly
Down in the easy chair!

Well, folks, this follows edgar and Try, but I'm am quite certain it goes waaaayyyyyy back before Marty Robbins:

I'm not in your town to stay said a lady old and gray
To the warden of the penitentary
I'm not in your town to stay and I'll soon be on my way
I'm just here to get my baby out of jail
(Yes warden)
You know I want my baby out of jail

I've tried to raise my baby rightI I have prayed both day and night
That he wouldn't follow the footsteps of his Dad
I have searched both far and wide and I feared that he had died
But at last I found my baby here in jail
(Yes warden)
You know it's good to find my baby here in jail

It was five years today when my husband passed away
He was found beneath the snow so cold and white
T'was then I vowed to take his ring, his gold watch and his chain
But the county laid my husband in the grave
(Yes warden)
The county laid my baby's Papa in the grave

I will pawn you my watch, I will pawn you my ring,
I will pawn you my diamond wedding ring
I will wash all your clothes, I will scrub all your floors
If this will get my baby out of jail
(Yes warden)
You know I want my baby out of jail

Then I heard the warden say to the lady old and gray
I will bring your darlin' baby to your side
Two iron gates swung wide apart she held her darlin' to her heart
She kissed her baby boy and then she died
(But smilin')
In the arms of her dear darlin' boy she died

Hummingbird
Frankie Laine

Hummingbird, Hummingbird should be your name
(Hummingbird should be your name)
Too restless to settle, too wild to tame
(Too restless, too wild to tame)
Too restless to settle, too wild to tame
Hummingbird, Hummingbird should be your name

(Hummin', hummin', hummin', hummin')

Hummingbird, Hummingbird winging along
(Hummingbird winging along)
No tender young blossom can hold you for long
(No blossom can hold you for long)
No tender young blossom can hold you for long
Hummingbird, Hummingbird winging along

I'd rather be lonely, I'd rather be blue
Yes, I'd rather spend my whole life without you
Than feather a nest to be shattered apart
By the hum, hum of your Hummingbird heart

(Hum, hum, hum, hum)

Hummingbird, Hummingbird, feathered so fine
(Hummingbird, feathered so fine)
If I clipped your wings it would not make you mine
(Oh, no, it would not make you mine)
If I clipped your wings it would not make you mine
Hummingbird, Hummingbird, feathered so fine

(Hummin', hummin', hummin', hummin')

Hummingbird, Hummingbird, fly right on by
Some folks like to gamble but darling, not I
Some folks like to gamble but darling, not I
Hummingbird, Hummingbird, fly right on by

I'd rather be lonely, I'd rather be blue
Yes, I'd rather spend my whole life without you
Than feather a nest to be shattered apart
By the hum, hum of your Hummingbird heart

Things You Left Behind
The Nails

A pair of stockings, a pair of shoes
A record by The Moody Blues
A bottle of Chanel No. 5
A poster of a band called Dead or Alive
A silk negligee and a black garter belt
A book about how to get to know yourself
A shirt you adopted used to be mine
These are some of the things you left behind

Paintings painted by a man you knew,
someone you dated in '82
An autographed picture of Junior Wells
I didn't even know you liked soul that well
Three pieces of paper with cryptic notes
Cigarettes you never smoked
A bag of beads and fishing line
These are some of the things you left behind

A dozen contraceptive sponges
Anyone here got a rhyme for sponges?
Dental floss, some baby powder
Fourteen cans of clam chowder
Forgotten how much you liked that stuff
Sex and clams you couldn't get enough
Your driver's license in '79
These are some of the things you left behind

A pack of rusty razor blades
You threatened to use those things one day
A nickel bag of Mexican pot
You bought downtown in a parking lot
A wedding band. Where'd that come from?
Forget to tell me about someone?
A bottle of cheap Italian wine
These are some of the things you left behind

A ticket stub to a Broadway play
A button saying "Make My Day"
A broken mirror with a lipstick smear
A telephone number where the name's unclear
Two pressed roses in a blank paged book
Containing all the notes that you never took
A Valentine card saying "Please Be Mine"
These are some of the things you left behind

A rosary, some holy cards
A photo of your daddy's Brooklyn bar
A list of possible job interviews
A list I guess you chose not to use
A glacine bag with a printed skull
I didn't know things had gotten that dull
A note on the door, one word, "Goodbye"
These are some of the things you left behind

A pair of stockings
A garter belt
An autographed picture of Junior Wells
Cigarettes
Dental floss
Clam chowder
A razor blade
Wedding band
Broken mirror with a lipstick smear
A valentine card
A rosary
A glacine bag
Heroin? Oh ****, not heroin
One word, tacked up on my door
One word….

"Goodbye"
