A little help with the duck tape pleaseĀ…

How Can You Mend A Broken Heart
As recorded by the Bee Gees

I can think of younger days, when living for my life
Was everything a man could want to do
I could never see tomorrow
But I was never told about the sorrows, and

How can you mend the broken hearts
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can you stop the sun from shining
What makes the world go round?
How can you mend this broken man
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart
And let me live again
Da, da, da, da, da

I can still feel the breeze, that rustles through the trees
And misty memories of days gone by
We could never see tomorrow
No one said a word about the sorrow, and

How can you mend the broken hearts,
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can you stop the sun from shining,
What makes the world go round?
And how can you mend this broken man,
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart
And let me live again
Da, da, da, da.

Well, Try. The black and white ones are of Jessica Tandy. <smile>and I know exactly what a fried green tomato is, and the irony of it lies in the fact that a damn Yankee taught me.

Love your duct tape song by the Bee Gees. I suspect that group broke a lot of hearts in a groupie type way, so they ought to know the recipe.

Letty: Jessica Tandy was in the original stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire as Blanche. Kim Hunter and Marlon Brando (who, of course, were also in the movie) are in the background.

Wow! Raggedy. I thought that kid looked like Brando. I should have read Bob's bio more carefully. Thanks again, PA.

Do we learn something here or not, listeners.

Well, Raggedy, here's a strange one for you.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls
Poem lyrics of The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
The tide rises, the tide falls,
The twilight darkens, the curlew calls;
Along the sea-sands damp and brown
The traveler hastens toward the town,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
Darkness settles on roofs and walls,
But the sea, the sea in darkness calls;
The little waves, with their soft, white hands
Efface the footprints in the sands,
And the tide rises, the tide falls.
The morning breaks; the steeds in their stalls
Stamp and neigh, as the hostler calls;
The day returns, but nevermore
Returns the traveler to the shore.
And the tide rises, the tide falls.

Get the connection, PA. Laughing

ah, Raggedy. Glad you got it. Now a song of no regrets, folks:

No Regrets

It's in my head
And nothing changes what's been done if I regret not being there,
when the time has come,
when it's too late
No regrets, no time to change
A selfish choice can take its toll,
a sacrifice might make the day
No regrets, it's time to change
Could I have done more,
it's in my head
I hold my breath,
it's not too late and I know that if I had another chance I'd make it up to them,
I'd make it count
Built up but nothing changes what's been done if I regret not being there,
when the time has gone,
when it's too late
No regrets, it's time to change
A selfish choice can take its toll,
a sacrifice might make the day
No regrets, it's time to change
Could I have done more,
it's in my head
It's in my head [3x]
A selfish choice can take
Take its toll,
a sacrifice,
I'll try
Try, instead I hold my breath,
it's not
Not too late,
I hope it's all just in
Just in my head
No regrets, it's time to change [2x]
A selfish choice can take its toll,
a sacrifice,
I'll try instead,
I hold my breath,
it's not too late and hope it's all just in my head

I Am, I Said
NEIL DIAMOND Lyrics

L.A.'s fine the sun shines most the time
And the feelin' is lay back
Palm trees grow and rent's are low
But you know I keep thinkin' 'bout
Makin' my way back

Well I'm New York City born and raised
But nowadays I'm lost between two shores
L.A.'s fine, but it ain't home
New York's home but it ain't mine no more

I am, I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all not even the chair
I am, I cried
I am, said I
And I am lost and I can even say why
Leavin' me lonely still

Did you ever read about a frog who dreamed of being a king,
And then became one
Well except for the names and a few other changes,
If you talk about me
Story's the same one

But I got an emptiness deep inside
And I've tried but it won't let me go
And I'm not a man who likes to swear
But I've never cared for the sound of being alone

I am, I cried
I am, said I
I am, I am.

Hey, Try. Good timing with that one, because I do believe that I saw somewhere that Simon and Garfunkle were recording again. This one by them is similar:

Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.

"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls."
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.

don't know why this tune popped into my head, but here it is

Rhinestone Cowboy
Glen Campbell

I've been walkin' these streets so long
Singin' the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway
Where hustle's the name of the game
And nice guys get washed away like the snow and the rain
There's been a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me

Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone

Well, I really don't mind the rain
And a smile can hide all the pain
But you're down when you're ridin' the train that's takin' the long way
And I dream of the things I'll do
With a subway token and a dollar tucked inside my shoe
There'll be a load of compromisin'
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me

Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo
Rhinestone cowboy
Gettin' cards and letters from people I don't even know
And offers comin' over the phone

Like a rhinestone cowboy
Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo

FADE
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Gettin' card and letters from people I don't even know

I know your leavin's too long overdue
For far too long I've had nothin' new to show to you
Goodbye dry eyes I watched your plane
Fade off west of the moon
And it felt so strange to walk away alone

No regrets, no tears goodbye
Don't want you back, we'd only cry, again
Say goodbye, again

The hours that were yours, echo like empty rooms
The thoughts we used to share, I now keep alone
I woke last night and spoke to you,
not thinking you were gone
It felt so strange to lie awake, alone

No regrets, no tears goodbye
Don't want you back, we'd only cry, again
Say goodbye, again

Our friends have tried to turn my nights to day
Strange faces in your place can't keep the ghosts away
Just beyond the darkest hour, just behind the dawn
Still feels so strange to lead my life, alone

I've no regrets, no tears goodbye
Don't want you back, we'd only cry, again
Say goodbye, again

I know why, Canada, and I really believe this. My sister calls it cognitive mapping, and I take it a step farther. I think there is a cultural genetic connection between the creatures of the earth, and when that thought drifts, we drift with it.

I have always loved the music of Glen Campbell, and I am just so sorry that things have turned out for him the way they have.

Hey, cowboy. I saw that song as well. It wasn't quite me at the time, so I didn't play it for our listeners. I am glad that you did, however. Big smile, honey.

The Days Of Phoenix Lyrics
A.F.I.

I remember when I was told of story of crushed velvet,
candle wax, and dried up flowers
The figure on the bed all dressed up in roses, calling
Beckoning to sleep,
Offering a dream

words were as mystical as purring animals
The circle of rage
The ghosts on the stage appeared
The time was so tangible, I'll never let it go
Ghost stories handed down, reached secret tunnels below
No one could see me

I fell into yesterday
Our dreams seemed not far away
I want to, I want to, I want to stay
I fell into fantasy

The words were as mystical as purring animals
The circle of rage
The ghosts on the stage appeared
The time was so tangible, I'll never let it go
Ghost stories handed down, reached secret tunnels below
No one could see me

I fell into yesterday.
Our dreams seemed not far away
I want to, I want to, I want to stay.
I fell into fantasy

The girl on the wall always waited for me,
And she was always smiling
The teenage death boys
The teenage death girls
And everyone was dancing
Nothing could touch us then
No one could change us then
Everyone was dancing
Nothing could hurt us then
No one could see us then
Everyone was dancing
Everyone was dancing

No one could see me

I fell into yesterday
Our dreams seemed not far away
I want to, I want to, I want to stay
I fell into fantasy

Our dreams seemed not far away
Our dreams seemed not far away
Our dreams seemed not far away

I fell into fantasy

Avalanche

Well I stepped into an avalanche,
it covered up my soul;
when I am not this hunchback that you see,
I sleep beneath the golden hill.
You who wish to conquer pain,
you must learn, learn to serve me well.
You strike my side by accident
as you go down for your gold.
The cripple here that you clothe and feed
is neither starved nor cold;
he does not ask for your company,
not at the centre, the centre of the world.

When I am on a pedestal,
you did not raise me there.
Your laws do not compel me
to kneel grotesque and bare.
I myself am the pedestal
for this ugly hump at which you stare.

You who wish to conquer pain,
you must learn what makes me kind;
the crumbs of love that you offer me,
they're the crumbs I've left behind.
Your pain is no credential here,
it's just the shadow, shadow of my wound.

I have begun to long for you,
I who have no greed;
I have begun to ask for you,
I who have no need.
You say you've gone away from me,
but I can feel you when you breathe.

Do not dress in those rags for me,
I know you are not poor;
you don't love me quite so fiercely now
when you know that you are not sure,
it is your turn, beloved,
it is your flesh that I wear.

Quietly listening to that one, Try.

"and all our yesterday's have lighted fools the way to dusty death." That may not be the exact quote, but I think it's from MacBeth.

Maybe you would, and maybe you wouldn't Willie;

I'd trade all of my tomorrows for just one yesterday
But what good is life without the one you love
I'd trade all of my tomorrows they're worthless anyway
If I can't hold the one I'm dreaming of
Just an empty world is all I have before me I'd give anything if you were with me now
I'd trade all of my tomorrows for just one yesterday
I don't want to live without you anyhow
[ guitar ]
Just an empty world...

edgar, I always seem to miss your wee offerings. <smile> That guy was a great composer and performer. "It is your flesh that I wear."

Someone, somewhere had this quote and I didn't quite understand it:

"I had talent before you had skin."

I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture --a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold.

Great, edgar. The Tell Tale Heart. One of Poe's better short stories.

Here's another quote from another master:

In truth they had. The Water of Youth possessed merely a virtue more transient than that of wine. The delirium which it created had effervesced away. Yes! they were old again. With a shuddering impulse, that showed her a woman still, the widow clasped her skinny hands before her face, and wished that the coffin lid were over it, since it could be no longer beautiful.

"Yes, friends, ye are old again," said Dr. Heidegger, "and lo! the Water of Youth is all lavished on the ground. Well--I bemoan it not; for if the fountain gushed at my very doorstep, I would not stoop to bathe my lips in it--no, though its delirium were for years instead of moments. Such is the lesson ye have taught me!"

But the doctor's four friends had taught no such lesson to themselves. They resolved forthwith to make a pilgrimage to Florida, and quaff at morning, noon, and night, from the Fountain of Youth.

and this is my goodnight poem to all of you here:

The Fountain
Into the sunshine,
Full of the light,
Leaping and flashing
From morn till night!

Into the moonlight,
Whiter than snow,
Waving so flower-like
When the winds blow!

Into the starlight,
Rushing in spray,
Happy at midnight,
Happy by day!

Ever in motion,
Blithesome and cheery.
Still climbing heavenward,
Never aweary

Glad of all weathers,
Still seeming best,
Upward or downward,
Motion thy rest;--

Full of a nature
Nothing can tame,
Changed every moment,
Ever the same;--

Ceaseless aspiring,
Ceaseless content,
Darkness or sunshine
Thy element;--

Glorious fountain!
Let my heart be
Fresh, changeful, constant,
Upward, like thee!

From Letty with love.
