A man was walking home alone late one foggy night,
when he hears:

BUMP...

BUMP...

BUMP... behind him.

Walking faster, he looks back and through
the fog he makes out the image of an upright
casket banging its way down the middle of
the street toward him

BUMP...

BUMP...

BUMP...

Terrified, the man begins to run
toward his home, the casket
bouncing quickly behind him

faster...

faster...

BUMP...

BUMP...

BUMP...

He runs up to his door, fumbles
with his keys, opens the door,
rushes in, slams and locks the
door behind him.

However, the casket crashes
through his door, with the lid
of the casket clapping

clappity-BUMP...

clappity-BUMP...

clappity-BUMP...

on his heels the terrified man runs.

Rushing upstairs to the bathroom,
the man locks himself in. His
heart is pounding; his head is reeling;
his breath is coming in sobbing gasps.

With a loud CRASH the casket
breaks down the door.

Bumping and clapping toward him.

The man screams and reaches for
something, anything, but all he can
find is a bottle of cough syrup!

Desperate, he throws the cough syrup
at the casket...

and,

(hopefully you're ready for this!!!)

The coffin stops!

Thanks again for all the bio's, and we need to hear a song from Josephine Baker.

Back later to review all the contributions, folks.

Well, folks, I think we know most of the celebs that our Bob of Boston posted, so let's honor Josephine Baker's birthday with a song from that remarkable woman:

Josephine Baker - J'ai deux amours...

Tahiti, pays d'amour

Tahiti !!!

Good Morning all.

Very funny, Bob, with just a little groan.

We need a translation, Letty. I remember hearing a Josephine Baker song (which I loved) sung in English as "Two Loves Have I".

Well there's our Raggedy, listeners, with a fantastic montage of Bob's celebs. Now we can see why Josephine was called the black venus. <smile>

I have no idea where Francis is, honey, or I'm certain he would do a line by line translation of that song. The best that I can do is to tell you that the lovely lady had two loves, one her native land(France, maybe) ,and the other Tahiti. Perhaps that is the one to which you refer. I will try a search for the song in English.

Well, folks, that infamous date of 666 is coming up, and here, in America, they call it D-Day. A meaning of that particular epithet is unknown. Perhaps someone here can give us the etymology.

Well, this is the best that your PD could do, Raggedy and listeners:

http://www.dustygroove.com/images/products/b/bridge_deed_jaideuxam_101b.jpg

Dee Dee is a jazz singer and does most of her songs in French.

I have two loves
My country and Paris
By them always
My c?ur is charmed
Manhattan is beautiful
But has what to deny it good
What bewitches me
It is Paris, it is entire Paris

To see one day
It is my reve pretty
I have two loves
My country and Paris

Manhattan is beautiful
But has what to deny it good
What bewitches me
It is Paris, it is entire Paris

To see one day
It is my reve pretty
I have two loves
My country and Paris

June afternoon

Didn't I tell you everything is possible in this déjà vu?
Try the river boat, the carousel, feed the pigeons, Bar-B-Q.
Look at all the people, happy faces all around.
Smiling, throwing kisses, busy making lazy sounds
It's a bright June afternoon, it never gets dark. Wah-wah! Here comes the sun.
Get your green, green tambourine, let's play in the park. Wah-wah! Here comes the sun
Some folks are on blankets, slowly daydreaming and reaching for their food.
Let's go buy an ice-cream and a magazine with an attitude
and put on a cassette, we can pretend that you're a star
cos life's so very simple just like la-la-la. It's a bright June afternoon...
There's a painter painting his masterpiece. There are some squirrels jumping in the trees,
There's a wide-eyed boy with a red balloon. All my life I've longed for this afternoon.

Have to grin back at you, Walter. Thanks for continuing to be our man in Germany.

Great song for June, and thanks for playing it, buddy.

Guess what boondocks song I'm going to play. Razz

In the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginny
On the trail of the lonesome pine,
In the pale moonlight, our hearts entwined,
She carved her name and I carved mine

Oh, JUNE like the mountains I'm blue,
Like the pine,
I am lonesome for you.

In the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginny,
On the trail of the lonesome pine.

Hey, we have to laugh at ourselves ,folks, so that we can laugh at others.

and, as coincidence would have it, folks.

Sports news from Germany:

BONN, Germany, June 3 (Reuters) - The mayor of Bonn has banned over-exuberant Japanese fans from jumping into the river Rhine during the World Cup.

Thousands of ecstatic fans celebrated the progress of co-hosts Japan into the last 16 four years ago by leaping into a river in downtown Osaka. Several injuries were reported.

Bonn city officials are anxious to avoid a repeat should Japan advance from World Cup Group F and have warned visitors of the Rhine's strong current.

"The quality of water is fine but the current is very strong so it is extremely dangerous," Bonn Mayor Baerbel Dieckmann told reporters. "We will ban supporters from swimming in the river."

Japan's fans earned a glowing reputation at the team's first World Cup appearance in France eight years ago when they stayed behind after matches to collect and dispose of their litter.

They were gracious hosts in 2002 and many Japanese fans shed their normal reserve in the celebrations that followed their success in the group stages.

He Bebette, danse avec moi
ce soir on fais dodo
danse avec moi, Bebette, oui
under the stormy sky

Papa, y a vendu la terre,
la terre et la vache
danse avec moi, Bebette, oui
under the stormy sky

Jean-Paul, il joue le violon
la belle l'accordeon
danse avec moi, Bebette
on this stormy night

I hear the whipporwill cry
I see the blue heron fly over
Sugar Hill, snowy white
big blue siren in the night
Come with me Bebette, we go
under a stormy sky

I hear the T.H.& B.
the diesel turning,
calling you and me
to the city of steel,
smokestack - spinning wheel
come with me Bebette, oui
under the stormy sky

My heart is sad
to leave Sugar town,
goodbye Sugar Hill
on this stormy night

He Bebette, danse avec moi
ce soir on fais dodo
danse avec moi, Bebette, oui
under the stormy sky
under the stormy sky
under the stormy sky

Daniel Lanois

I'm listening to this right now, and it's suiting the rainy mood.

Letty, Daniel writes his songs in a mixture of English and French, which reflects his own real-life experience.

another of my favourite Daniel Lanois story songs

Ma jolie, how do you do?
Mon nom est Jean-Guy Thibault-Leroux
I come from east of Gatineau
My name is Jean-Guy, ma jolie

J'ai une maison a Lafontaine
where we can live, if you marry me
Une belle maison a Lafontaine
where we will live, you and me
Oh Louise, ma jolie Louise

Tous les matins au soleil
I will work 'til work is done
Tous les matins au soleil
I did work 'til work was done
And one day, the foreman said
"Jean-Guy, we must let you go"
Et pis mon nom, y est pas bon
at the mill anymore...
Oh Louise, I'm losing my head,
I'm losing my head

My kids are small, 4 and 3
et la bouteille, she's mon ami
I drink the rum 'tilI I can't see
It hides the shame Louise does not see
Carousel turns in my head,
and I can't hide, oh no, no, no, no
And the rage turned in my head
and Louise, I struck her down,
down on the ground
I'm losing my mind, I'm losing my mind

En Septembre '63
kids are gone, and so is Louise.
Ontario, they did go
near la ville de Toronto
Now my tears, they roll down,
tous les jours
And I remember the days,
and the promises that we made
Oh Louise, ma jolie Louise, ma jolie Louise

~~~~~~~~
He's an interesting man in so many ways.
Backtracking a little -
Letty, this is the song I love that Josephine Baker sang in French:
Two Loves Have I
Two loves have I
And they tear me apart
Two loves have I
Both are in my heart
One is a flower
And the other a flame
Two loves have I
But they're not the same
When I'm in a gay mood
Tis then my light love I crave
Then again at times
My other love can make me a slave
I can't deny
That to both I am true
Two loves have I
Both of them are you
I can't deny
That to both I am true
Two loves have I
Both of them are you
Wow! Thanks, Raggedy. That song sounds so familiar to me. Did someone else do it?
Just a bit of a news update from our vast forum, listeners.
It seems that Francis has met the JLNobodies. I do hope we get a full report later.
Good afternoon one and all, sorry to be so late, but…
Have You Ever Seen The Rain?
As recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Someone told me long ago
There's a calm before the storm
I know
It's been coming for some time
When it's over, so they say
It'll rain a sunny day
I know
Shining down like water
I want to know
Have you ever seen the rain?
I want to know
Have you ever seen the rain?
Coming down a sunny day
Yesterday and days before
Sun is cold and rain is hard
I know
Been that way for all my time
Till forever on it goes
Though the circle, fast and slow
I know
It can't stop, I wonder
I want to know
Have you ever seen the rain?
I want to know
Have you ever seen the rain?
Coming down a sunny day
Well, there's our Try, folks. Hey, buddy. I love that song. They also did "Bad Moon Arising."
I tried to find Raggedy's companion song, but all I could come up with is this "Two Loves"
Two loves have I
But they're not the same
When I'm in a gay mood
Tis then my light love I crave
Then again at times
My other love can make me a slave
I can't deny
That to both I am true
Two loves have I
Both of them are you
I can't deny
That to both I am true
Two loves have I
Both of them are you
Whatever Happened to Randolph Scott - Statler Brothers
Everybody knows when you go to the show you can't take the kids along
You've gotta read the paper and know the code of GPG and R and X
And you gotta know what the movie's about before you even go
Tex Ritter's gone and Disney's dead and the screen is filled with sex.
Whatever happened to Randolph Scott ridin' the train alone
Whatever happened to Gene and Tex and Roy and Rex the Durango Kid
Oh, whatever happened to Randolph Scott his horse plain as could be
Whatever happened to Randolph Scott has happened to the best of me.
--- Instrumental ---
Everybody's tryin' to make a comment about our doubts and fears
True Grit's the only movie I've really understood in years
You gotta take your analyst along to see if it's fit to see
Whatever happened to Randolph Scott has happened to the industry.
Whatever happened to Johnny Mack Brown and Alan Rocky Lane
Whatever happened to Lash LaRue I'd love to see them again
Whatever happened to Smiley Burnette Tim Holt and Gene Autry
Whatever happened to all of these has happened to the best of me.
Whatever happened to Randolph Scott has happened to the industry...
I'm sure Francis will know the song. I found the French title:
"J'ai Deux Amours"
Written by G. Koger, H. Varno and V. Scotto
Perry Como and Dean Martin both sang "Two Loves Have I". I think Jacques Brel did it, too. It was featured in the HBO special "The Josephine Baker Story" with Lynn Whitfield. Great special.
Ooh, I just saw what you posted, Letty. That's what I posted above. Very Happy
Aha! edgar. The Statler Brothers I do know. My sister knew the one that died, personally. I think his name was Lou DeWhitt, but I am not certain of that.
Great hearing and learning from everyone here today. Makes our radio mean something.
