I also love Buddy Holly

Buddy Holly - Raining in My Heart

The sun is out - the sky is blue
there's not a cloud to spoil the view
but it's raining - raining in my heart

The weather man says clear today
he doesn't know you've gone away
and it's raining - raining in my heart

Oh, misery - misery
what's gonna become of me

I tell blues they musn't show
but soon these tears are bound to flow
cause it's raining - raining in my heart

But it's raining - raining in my heart

And it's raining - raining in my heart

You know, edgar, I never heard of Buddy Holly until Don McLean, and now I know this one by him.

That'll Be The Day by Buddy Holly

Well that'll be the day
When you say good-bye
Yes that'll be the day
When you make me cry
You say you're gonna leave
You know it's a lie
'cause that'll be the day
When I die

Well you give me all your lovin'
And your turtle dovin'
And all your hugs and kisses and your money too
Well uh you know you love me baby
Still you tell me maybe
That someday well I'll be blue

Well oh when cupid shot his dart
He shot it at your heart
So if we ever part then I'll leave you
You sit and hold me and you
Tell me boldly
That someday well I'll be blue

Buddy wrote That'll Be the Day after watching John Wayne in The Searchers. Big John kept saying, "That'll be the day."

My word, edgar. I had no idea.

Well, as Try says, we learn a lot on our little radio.

For a change of pace, folks, I was thinking of this one today:

Someone to Watch Over Me:

There's a somebody I'm longing to see,
I hope that he turns out to be
Someone to watch over me
I'm a little lamb who's lost in the world
I know I could always be good
To one who'll watch over me

Although he may not be the man
Some girls think of as handsome
To my heart he carries the key, humm...

Won't you tell him, please, to put on some speed
Follow my lead, oh, how I need
Someone to watch over me...

Dear Hearts And Gentle People
Gordon MacRae

[Words by Bob Hilliard]
[Music by Sammy Fain]

I love those dear hearts and gentle people
Who live in my home town
Because those dear hearts and gentle people
Will never ever let you down

They read the good Book from Fri 'til Monday
That's how the weekend goes
I've got a dream house I'll build there one day
With picket fence and ramblin' rose

I feel so welcome each time that I return
That my happy heart keeps laughin' like a clown
I love the dear hearts and gentle people
Who live and love in my home town

There's a place I'd like to go and it's Batten, Idaho
Where your friendly neighbors smile and say, hello
It's a pleasure and a treat to meander down the street
That's why I want the whole wide world to know

I love those dear hearts and gentle people
Who live in my home town
Because those dear hearts and gentle people
Will never ever let you down

edgar, and listeners. Wonder if there are any small towns left that have dear hearts and gentle people?

I noticed that Walter began a news release on Turkey and Greece. Ellinas is back to comment, and I hate to say that all I know about either country today, is a song of yesterday, and please don't ask me from whence it came:

Trudi Mann - 1999
Hotpoint Stringband (vocal: Mark Hellenberg) - 1999

Also recorded by:
Hoosier Hot Shots; Markko Polo Adventurers; Tom Hobson.

One fine day, I chanced to stray
On a little side street in old Bombay
And met a sentimental oriental
She saw me and I saw she
Had a manner too bold and much too free
Her eyes were positively detrimental
When I asked about this gay coquette
I discovered much to my regret....

She's the girl friend of the whirling dervish
She's the sweetest one he's found
But ev'ry night, in the mellow moonlight
When he's out dervishing with all his might
She gives him the run-around

All the boy friends of the whirling dervish
Are his best friends to his face
But there's no doubt, when he isn't about
They all come hurrying to take her out
She leads him a dizzy pace

He dreams of a Hindu honeymoon
He doesn't dream that ev'ry night when he goes out
To make an honest rupee
She steps out to make a lotta whoopee

Oh, the love song of the whirling dervish
Has a sweet and tender sound
But will he burn if he ever should learn
That while he's doing her a real good turn
She gives him the runaround

She's got a nervish, throwin' him a curvish
Which, of course, he doesn't deservish
Poor old whirling dervish!

Take it away Don...

Castles In The Air

As recorded by Don McLean

And if she asks you why you can tell her that I told you that I'm tired
Of castles in the air
I've got a dream I want the world to share and castle walls
Just lead me to despair.

Hills of forest green where the mountains touch the sky
A dream come true
I'll live there till I die I'm asking you to say my last goodbye
The love we knew ain't worth another try.

Save me from all the trouble and pain I know I'm weak
But I can't face that girl again
Tell her the reasons why I can't remain perhaps she'll understand
If you tell it to her plain.

But how can words express the feel of sunlight in the morning
In the hills away from city strife
I need a country woman for my wife
I'm city born, but I love the country life.

For I will not be part of her cocktail generation
Partners waltz, devoid of all romance, the music plays
And everyone must dance, I'm bowing out
I need a second chance.

Save me from all the trouble and pain I know I'm weak
But I can't face that girl again
Tell her the reasons why I can't remain perhaps she'll understand
If you tell it to her plain.

And if she asks you why you can tell her that I told you that I'm tired
Of castles in the air
I've got a dream I want the world to share and castle walls
Just lead me to despair.

Hmm, hmm.

Hey, Try. Well, I certainly have not heard that one by Don. I have been rather shut off from music civilization here. <smile> Thanks, honey. I need to check out things more often. I think it was Thoreau that said:
It is all right to build castles in the air. That's where they should be; just make certain that they have a firm foundation under them. (paraphrased)

Well, there's our hamburger with an opportunity to see that penguin in a wide screen version. I read through Walter's history of Germany,Canada. Couldn't respond, because I know so little of the background. Same with his thread on the Greeks and the Turks.

Waiting for the little black and white cutie to download as we speak.

It's ok, she knows…

Artist: James Taylor
Song: You've Gotta Friend Lyrics

When you're down and troubled
and you need a helping hand
and nothing, oh nothing is going right.
Just close your eyes and think of me
and soon I will be there
to brighten up even your darkest nights
you just call out my name
and you know where ever I am
I'll come running, oh yeah baby
to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
all you have to do is call
and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You've got a friend.

If the sky above you
should turn dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
and soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
all you got to do is call
and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Oh, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?
People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you.
Well they'll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don't you let them.

You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Oh baby, don't you know that,
Winter spring summer or fall,
Hey now, all you've got to do is call.
Lord, I'll be there, yes I will.

You've got a friend.
You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
You've got a friend.

and for the penguin and Try's castle music:
THE CASTLE ON THE MOUNTAIN

by: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

HERE stands an ancient castle
On yonder mountain height,
Where, fenced with door and portal,
Once tarried steed and knight.

But gone are door and portal,
And all is hushed and still;
O'er ruined wall and rafter
I clamber as I will.

A cellar with many a vintage
Once lay in yonder nook;
Where now are the cellarer's flagons
And where is his jovial look?

No more he sets the beakers
For the guests at the wassail feast;
Nor fills a flask from the oldest cask
For the duties of the priest.

No more he gives on the staircase
The stoup to the thirsty squires,
And a hurried thanks for the hurried gift
Receives, nor more requires.

For burned are roof and rafter,
And they hang begrimed and black;
And stair, and hall, and chapel,
Are turned to dust and wrack.

Yet, as with song and cittern,
One day when the sun was bright,
I saw my love ascending
The slopes of yon rocky height;

From the hush and the desolation
Sweet fancies did unfold,
And it seemed as they had come back again,
The jovial days of old.

As if the stateliest chambers
For noble guests were spread,
And out from the prime of that glorious time
A youth a maiden led.

And, standing in the chapel,
The good old priest did say,
"Will ye wed with one another?"
And we smiled and answered "Yea!"

We sung, and our hearts they bounded
To the thrilling lays we sung,
And every note was doubled
By the echo's catching tongue.

And when, as eve descended,
The hush grew deep and still,
And the setting sun looked upward
On that great castled hill;

Then far and wide, like lord and bride,
In the radiant light we shone --
It sank; and again the ruins
Stood desolate and alone.

John Storer Cobb's English translation of 'The Castle on the Mountain' was first published in Goethe: Poetical Works, vol. 1. Boston: Francis A Niccolls & Company, 1902.

And there is our Try with James. Love it, buddy.

Interesting looking man, hamburger. I thought that he was German, and I think you missed my pet name for the penguin, Canada.

You see, I name all my wild things, buddy. My alligator is Anatole; my white egret is Otis; my frog (who is singing away as we play) is Prince; my moorehen is Mary Margaret. Razz

Call Me (Come Back Home)

(As recorded by Al Green)

Call me, call me, call me

What a beautiful time, we had together
Now it's getting late and we must leave each other, yeah
Just remember the time we had, and how right I tried to be
It's all in a day's work, call me.

Losin' your love, acting' foolishly, yeah
Go on and take your time
'Cause you're only losing me, yeah
Love is a long way's from here
Tell you it's all in the way you feel
If your love is real, come to me.

(Call me, call me, call me, come back home)

The best thing I can do is give you your love (Is give you your love) oh baby
Let you go on your way
Feeling as free as a dove
And if you find you're a long way's from home
And somebody's doing you wrong
Just call me baby and come back home
(Call me, call me, call me, come back home)
Come back home, come back home.

When you're worried, thangs ain't going right, yeah
It's all in a day's work
Call me when you're lonely
You can call me when you're feeling sad, baby, wo-wo-wo-wo, yeah
It's all in a day's work
Come back home.

yes , good ole jw was a german , i remember him well . he did a fair amount of travelling , even in those horse and buggy days .

how about naming the penguin 'nosy parker' , always sticking his/her schnozzola into things ?

do you feed your pet gator ? we rented a cottage on hilton head island some years ago , right next to a drainage canal . at night we'd sit on the porch and throw cheesepuffs into the water . the gators seemed to like them , judging by the 'crunch' we'd hear .

Well, folks, how did I miss the dys? Geckos? Are they the mascots for that insurance company? No, they will never be caught by long, tall, Sally.

Speaking of which, listeners:

Long Tall Sally by Little Richard

Gonna tell Aunt Mary 'bout Uncle John,
he claims he has the misery but he has a lotta fun.
Oh baby,
ye-e-e-eh baby,
woo-o-o-oh baby,
havin' me some fun tonight.

Well, long tall Sally she's
built for speed, she got
everything that Uncle John need
Oh baby,
ye-e-e-eh baby,
woo-o-o-oh baby,
havin' me some fun tonight.
Well, I saw Uncle John with long tall Sally.
He saw Aunt mary comin' and he ducked back in the alley.
Oh baby,
ye-e-e-eh baby,
woo-o-o-oh baby,
havin' me some fun tonight.

We're gonna have some fun tonight,
gonna have some fun tonight.
We're gonna have some fun tonight,
everything will be alright.
We're gonna have some fun,
gonna have some fun tonight.
We're gonna have some fun tonight,
gonna have some fun tonight.
We're gonna have some fun tonight,
everything will be alright.
