A Lover's Concerto - The Toys

[Written by Denny Randell and Sandy Linzert]

How gentle is the rain
That falls softly on the meadow
Birds high up the trees
Serenade the clouds with their melodies

Oh, see there beyond the hill
The bright colors of the rainbow
Some magic from above
Made this day for us just to fall in love

Now, I belong to you
From this day until forever
Just love me tenderly
And I'll give to you every part of me

Oh, don't ever make me cry
Through long lonely nights without us
Be always true to me
Keep this day in your heart eternally

One day we shall return
To this place upon the meadow
We'll walk out in the rain
See the birds above singing once again

Oh, you hold me in your arms
And say once again you love me
And if your love is true
Everything will be just as wonderful

You'll hold me in your arms
And say once again you love me
And if your love is true
Everything will be just as wonderful

Lovely, edgar. Thanks for that concerto, Texas. That song reminds me of another of long ago, but at the moment I cannot think of it.

Yes, it is edgar, but what surprised me the most were some of the performers. "A Fool Such as I" by Hank Snow? My word, folks.

Speaking of Hank (he was my Mom's favorite singer when I was growing up) here is one of his songs.

BOOGIE WOOGIE FLYIN' CLOUD

I've been singin' the blues but now I'm shoutin' hoo-ray
'Cause I met a pretty mama and I met her today
When her eyes started cheatin' my heart started beatin' aloud
Like the rhythmatic motors of the Boogie Woogie Flyin' Cloud

Now, the Flyin' Cloud is a luxury liner
She flies from San Diego down to Caroliner
She boogies through Georgia then back to old Alabam'
No use denyin', makin' love when you're flyin' is grand

She's a silver comet, every engine in tune
She boogies the southbeat 'neath the silvery moon
The stars started blinkin' when my baby started thinkin' aloud
And she told me she loved me on the Boogie Woogie Flyin' Cloud

Well, I hugged my baby and we strarted to kiss
The Flyin' Cloud's motors all started to miss
She jumped into jive as the crew started singin' a song
And we headed for Dixie while the Flyin' Cloud boogied along

When I told my baby of the fortune I'd give 'er
The big plane trembled and she started to quiver
She headed for the sky, then she swung and come on back down
But, we kept on a-lovin' as the Flyin' Cloud boogied around

I wasn't takin' no chances 'cause got a little scarey
Thought I'd wait 'til we landed then I'd ask her to marry
But, I changed my mind as we boogied out over the land
And I popped the question as the big cloud boogied on time

Well, she started to trunk and then she jumped in hep
She looped the loop but she never lost her step
When she started descendin' for a boogie woogie landin' I found
I'm preparin' my weddin' on the Boogie Woogie Flyin' Cloud

When the big propellers, they came to a stop
My old heart inside me went flippity flop
I took my little baby and we wandered out through the crowd
When we landed in Dixie on the Boogie Woogie Flyin' Cloud

Well, I never thought that I would enjoy The Singing Ranger, but he has one helluva great voice, no?

Never heard that one, edgar, but I really didn't learn to appreciate Hank until I heard, "I've Been everywhere"

Bob Dyland did this as well, folks:

A Fool Such As I

Pardon me if I'm sentimental, came to say goodbye
Don't be angry, don't be angry with me, should I cry
When you are gone, I will dream a little dream as years go by

Now and then there is a fool, a fool such as I.

Now and then there's a fool such as I am over you
You taught me how to love and now you happened to be untrue
I am a fool but I love you, dear, yes I will until the day I die.
Now and then there is a fool, a fool such as I.

Pardon me if I'm sentimental, came to say goodbye
Don't be angry, don't be angry with me, should I cry
When you are gone, when you are gone, I will dream a little
I will dream as years go by
Now and then, now and then there is a fool, a fool such as I.

Now and then there's a fool, a fool such as I am over you
You taught me how to love and now you say that we are through
I am a fool, yes, but I love you dear, I will love you dear
Till the day, till the day I die
Now and then, now and then there is a fool, a fool such as I.
Now and then there is a fool, a fool such as I.
Now and then there is a fool, a fool such as I.

Just listening to ...

Maria Elena
You're the answer to a prayer
Maria Elena
Can't you see how much I care?
To me your voice is like the echo of a sigh
And when you're near my heart can't speak above a sigh

Maria Elena
Say that we will never part
Maria Elena
Take me to your heart
A love like mine is great enough for two
To share this love is really all I ask of you

Eres mi fé, eres mi Dios, eres mi amor

I know that song, Walter. Amazing. Whistling the melody as we write.

And when you're near my heart
Can't speak above a sigh

Lovely, no?

Incidentally, listeners. That version was done by Michael Buble. Perhaps that is where I remember the melody.

Oh, I dream a highway back to you, Love
A winding ribbon with a band of gold
A silver vision, come and rest my soul
I dream a highway back to you

John, he's kickin' out the footlights
The Grand Ole Opry's got a brand new band
Lord, let me die with a hammer in my hand
I dream a highway back to you

I think I'll move down into Memphis
And thank the hatchetman who forked my tongue
I'll lie and wait until the wagons come
And dream a highway back to you

The getaway kickin' up cinders
An empty wagon full of rattlin' bones
Moon in the mirror on a three-hour jones
I dream a highway back to you

Oh, I dream a highway back to you, Love
A windin' ribbon with a band of gold
A silver vison, come arrest my soul
I dream a highway back to you

Which lover are you, Jack of Diamonds
Now you be Emmylou and I'll be Gram
I send a letter, don't know who I am
I dream a highway back to you

I'm an indisguisable shade of twilight
Any second now I'm gonna turn myself on
In the blue display of the cool cathode ray
I dream a highway back to you

I wish you knew me, Jack of Diamonds
Fire-ridin', wheelin' when I lead 'em up
Drank whiskey with my water, sugar with my tea
My sails in rags with the staggers and the jags
I dream a highway back to you

Oh, I dream a highway back to you, Love
A windin' ribbon with a band of gold
A silver vison, come molest my soul
I dream a highway back to you

Now give me some of what you're havin'
I'll take you as a viper into my head
A knife into my bed, arsenic when I'm fed
I dream a highway back to you

Hang overhead from all directions
Radiation from the porcelain light
Blind and blistered by the mornin' white
I dream a highway back to you

Sunday mornin' at the diner
Hollywood trembles on the verge of tears
I watched the waitress for a thousand years
Saw a wheel inside a wheel, heard a call within a call
I dreamed a highway back to you

Oh, I dream a highway back to you, Love
A windin' ribbon with a band of gold
A silver vison, convalesced my soul
I dream a highway back to you

Step into the light, poor Lazarus
Don't lie alone behind the window shade
Let me see the mark death made
I dream a highway back to you
I dream a highway back to you

What will sustain us through the winter
Where did last year's lessons go
Walk me out into the rain and snow
I dream a highway back to you

Oh, I dream a highway back to you, Love
A windin' ribbon with a band of gold
A silver vison, come and bless my soul
I dream a highway back to you
I dream a highway back to you

Oh, I dream a highway back to you, Love
A windin' ribbon with a band of gold
A silver vison, come and bless my soul
I dream a highway back to you

For some reason, dys. That song reminded me of Alfred Noyes' "The Highwayman." Perhaps it's the direct metaphor.

Well, my goodness, Mr. Turtle. Thanks for Los Indios. The only place I hear music now is on WA2K radio. <smile>

Odd, part of my entire life is music, folks, but I hardly ever play anything on disc or tape in my little studio.

I had an interesting e-mail today. The president of a bank in Sweden wanted me to invest money under mysterious auspices. I, of course, replied immediately. Did I do the right thing? I usually don't have the personality for such ventures, but I thought, "Well, why not, Letty.?"

"...write me a letter; send it by mail; send it in care of the Birmingham jail...." Razz

Well, I got an email the other day ...

Quote:
Dear Friend,

As you read this, I don't want you to feel sorry for me, because, I believe everyone will die someday. My name is Azeez Abdullahi. I am a merchant of Omani nationality and i have been diagnosed with Esophageal cancer. It has defiled all forms of medical treatment, and right now I have only about a few months to live, according to medical experts. I have not particularly lived my life so well, as I never really cared for anyone (not even myself) but my business. Though I am very rich, I was never generous, I was always hostile to people and only focused on my business as that was the only thing I cared for. But now I regret all this as I now know that there is more to life than just wanting to have or make all the money in the world. I believe when God gives me a second chance to come to this world I would live my life a different way. Please respond back to me so I can explain to you better.

Azeez Abdullahi

... and now I don't know what to do with tons money.
Could use your address as well, I think Laughing

The best things in life are free
But you can keep it for the birds and bees.
Now gimme money (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)
That's what I want, ye-ye-yeh,
That's what I want.

Money don't get everything it's true.
What it don't get I can't use.
So gimme money (that's what I want)
A little money (that's what I want)
That's what I want, ye-ye-yeh,
That's what I want.

Yeh gimme money (that's what I want)
A little money (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)
So gimme money (that's what I want)
That's what I want, ye-ye-yeh,
That's what I want.

Your lovin' give me a thrill
But your lovin' don't pay my bill.
Now gimme money (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)
That's what I want, ye-ye-yeh,
That's what I want.

Love it, Walter.

Well, I guess we could do an Elvis song again, folks.

Well, the landlord rang my front doorbell,
I let it ring for a long, long spell.
I went to the window,
I peeped through the blind,
And asked him to tell me what's on his mind.
He said,

Money, honey.
Money, honey.
Money, honey, if you want to get along with me.

Well, I screamed and I hollered,
I was so hard-pressed.
I called the woman that I loved the best.
I finally got my baby about half past three,
She said I'd like to know what you want with me.
I said,

Money, honey.
Money, honey.
Money, honey,
If you want to get along with me.

Well, I said tell me baby, what's wrong with you?
From this day on our romance is through
I said, tell me baby, face to face
How could another man take my place?
She said,

Money, honey.
Money, honey.
Money, honey,
If you want to get a long with me.

Well, I've learned my lesson and now I know
The sun may shine and the winds may blow.
The women may come and the women may go,
But before I say I love you so,
I want

Money, honey.
Money, honey.
Money, honey,
If you want to get along with me.

the Apprentice is a guilty pleasure for me. it never ceases to amaze me how clueless many presumably successsful young entrepreneurs can be. here's the theme by the O'Jays:

Money, money, money, money, money [6x]
Some people got to have it
Some people really need it
Listen to me y'all, do things
Do things, do bad things with it
You wanna do things, do things
Do things, good things with it
Talk about cash money, money
Talk about cash money
Dollar bills, yall

For the love of money
People will steal from their mother
For the love of money
People will rob their own brother
For the love of money
People can't even walk the street
Because they never know
Who in the world they're gonna beat
For that lean, mean, mean green
Almighty dollar, money

For the love of money
People will lie, Lord, they will cheat
For the love of money
People don't care who they hurt or beat
For the love of money
A woman will sell her precious body
For a small piece of paper
It carries a lot of weight
Call it lean, mean, mean green

Almighty dollar

I know money is the root of all evil
Do funny things to some people
Give me a nickel, brother can you spare a dime
Money can drive some people out of their minds

Got to have it, I really need it
How many things have I heard you say
Some people really need it
How many things have I heard you say
Got to have it, I really need it
How many things have I heard you say
Lay down, lay down, a woman will lay down
For the love of money
All for the love of money
Don't let, don't let, don't let money rule you
For the love of money
Money can change people sometimes
Don't let, don't let, don't let money fool you
Money can fool people sometimes
People, don't let money, don't let money change you
It will keep on changing, changing up your mind
