Art of Human

Whatever reason we persistently follow,
As migratory birds to better climes -
We set our sails for better times
Whatever that horizon brings -
And we covet things like love and silver
Pounded out by artisans from
Places we have barely been,
Or never seen - and we bare ourselves
To God, like children let before the dawn -
Ah, we fallow, fallow because that's
The overriding design of our construct -
It is persistence which makes us greatest
Like moon shots and marathons,
Global wars and laser beams;
The stuff of shadows never seen -
Hiding just for us to find.

I loved the piece, but I am no Latin scholar. Is it a biblical reference? You'll have to explain the last line for me.

Kelly I especially like the line,"...we fallow, fallow....".

unseeded and untouched talent. Back later to reread.

Thanks you two :-)

Loosely translated, the Latin means, 'Let no secret go unrevealed'

The greatest pleasure comes from the hunt :-)

Latin is a wonderful, albeit dead, language. My exposure has mostly been in school, where I minored in law in my BA and then received an MBA with a concentration in corporate law. Methodology? There is none, other than my old latin phrase books and dictionary...

I googled 'permissum' and only got responses about taxes, or 'let', heh heh...Wink

We had an interesting experience a few months ago. My wife had to go to Winnipeg for a business trip, and she stayed with relatives. We have a few lawyers, and a judge in the family, and the relatives had their old Latin books from grade school. They passed them on as gifts, and we all were in stitches from the written-in comments, and the doodling.

Hmm, I take Latin at my school yet I'm still learning the basics of the dead language. This inspires me to write something in Latin. Hmm, maybe when I have time.
