this problem just started last week. i have not had a problem getting to the login screen for my bank - ever! I can get to their website but when I click on the 'login' icon I get the standard message "this page cannot be displayed" .............. is this related to WIN XP service pack2? I need help quick so I can pay my bills on line! Shocked

I would suggest you contact your bank and ask them if the site is having problems.

On that note though, I have problems with my machine at work not being able to consistently display pages from msnusers.com. Sometimes they come up, other times it just hangs for a long time. I cannot explain it.

Have you run Ad-aware and Spybot S&D lately? See the thread on removing gunkware.

Hi Sunmaiden
Good idea to run Ad-aware and spybot as cjhsa said, Be sure and check them for updates prior to running,
You should also clean out your Temp Folders,

Reboot to safe mode ( by tapping the F8 key on start up,)
Delete the entire contents of the below Temp folders, but not the TEMP folder itself.

Remove all the files and sub-folders from the below TEMP Folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\ \Local Settings\Temp
C:\temp
C:\windows\temp

The TIF ( Temporary Internet Files) can also be emptied via:
Internet Explorer--Tools--Internet Options--General tab--"Delete Files",
Also tick the "delete all offline content" box .

Clean out your Recycle Bin

Run a scan with Ad-aware and Sybot again, Then restart your computer,

Let us know how you make out

Laughing first off let me say that that it's nice to hear from you again Don!

I am able to access my bank from several other computers, i.e. my office, my friends, my mothers, etc, etc. with no problem. So it's not the bank, it's my computer at home.

I have cleaned TIFs and cache, etc, etc. and run ad-aware and spybot with the most current updates.

It is my "newbee" opinion that while I was away in Las Vegas last week someone changed the internet settings somewhere, somehow and I don't know how to change any of it back the way it was.

I thought it might be my symantec firewall or virus protection, because it looks like that was messed around with too while I was gone to LV. Now I can't even uninstall symantec! It says I don't have 'rights' to do it.

I know, I know, it's not cool to have my symantec uninstalled, but I was planning on a re-install; figured maybe a DLL file was deleted or corrupted by the little creep who was here while I was in Vegas.

Unfortunately for me, I can't get a 20 on the little creep to find out what he did to my computer. But when I do he's toast. Evil or Very Mad

BTW, I have had "restore" turned off, so that isn't an option. I really think it's a setting in the internet options.

What do U think Question

If you think a setting in Internet Explorer was changed, you can try clicking Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced tab -> Restore Defaults button.

As for getting messages that you do not have rights (or rather, permissions) to uninstall a particular piece of software, well, you need to sign in to Windows using an account with administrative priviliges in order to change the permissions on your account (for example, you could sign in using the built in Administrator account if you know the password for it).

just wanted everyone to know that I fixed my problem. it was really really hard. I went to 'services' under 'administrative tools' and found that HTTPS SSL had been disabled. I 'started' it, logged off and restarted my PC. No more problems.
