Question for the computer literate

Reply Sat 8 Feb, 2003 10:54 am
I'm paying some career counseling place to do my resume for me, from scratch. She's giving me paper copies, as well as an electronic copy on a PDF file. However, she wants an extra $30-40 to include a Word file as well.

That seems a little steep, just for that. Is there a way I'd be able to convert the file from PDF to Word(not including just typing it myself on Word)?

Or, should I just type it myself on Word? Though I know that can be a pain in the ass with the bullets and what not.

Mucho Gracias, amigos and amigas. Evil or Very Mad

Hi Slappy,

Depending on the layout, you should be able to copy and paste it from PDF into word. You may have to "tweak" any bullets and numbering., but if you know Word well, it'd be pretty easy.

Jerry, how do you cut and paste PDF? I've never been able to.

Slappy, do you have a scanner? Most scanners have a text-reading function. You could just take one of the paper copies, then scan it. Mine makes it Word automatically. If you don't, you should be able to do that at Kinko's for less than 10% of what that career counselor gal is asking for.

The secret is in that T with the little square next to it. If you hit that, the hand becomes the elongated I that you can use to copy text:

While I was checking this out, I found a form where you can convert Adobe pdf files on the internet to HTML:

Thanks for the help...can't believe someone would charge that much money for something that simple. The damn resume's expensive enough. Then again, it's peanuts if I get a job making more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

She's charging that much because once you have it in Word, you'll never come back to her for updates...
