I thought I'd set up this thread for people looking for the names of inventors or scientists who have invented or discovered some pretty important things but weren't given credit or much credit or whose names are obscured by history.
This thread should be a last resort for those of you who genuinely can't find the information in any books available in your library or on the internet. Please feel free to use the thread for your own use once I'm done.
I'm particularly looking for the researcher who first characterised the Fenton reaction. Is it named after anyone, because I remember seeing the name Fenton Howell somewhere?

1893 entdeckte H.J.H. Fenton eine Mischung aus Eisen(II)-Ionen und Wasserstoffperoxid, die heute als Fentons Reagenz bezeichnet wird. Wie später herausgefunden wurde, entstehen beim Zusammengeben dieser beiden Substanzen Hydroxylradikale, die in der Lage sind, mit organischen Verbindungen Reaktionen einzugehen. So können beispielsweise Aromaten in einer elektrophilen Reaktion substituiert werden. Fentons Reagenz wird auch als Hilfsmittel für viele andere Reaktionen verwendet, wie beispielsweise Oxiadtionsreaktionen, etwa in der Abwasseraufbereitung.
