This will be the year I finish my bloody dissertation. Allllmost there. And go to Vienna for half a year and figure out where I want to live afterwards. Most likely not Slovakia. If my new job (starting Monday!!!) works out good, I'll be back in Boston and traveling around the world. Cool. Can't wait for that 2005 to kick off!
Oh, btw, Kicky et al., I'll be in NYC from Tuesday to Friday. You around?

Halleluljah Daggles!!!!

Finishing the beast!!! That is an achievement.

Can you tell us more about the job? - sounds wonderful.

PS: Will your dissertation be online at all? What HAPPENS to them all?

and I miss another midnight ...

can't even blame it on champagne this year, just being bone-tired

(thanks for the gambas info, nimh - sounds like you're describing sauteeing them)

for 2005? more time with people I love and who make me laugh. Maybe I should turn the priority on that around. <nodding>

Last night was good times. I actually didn't get completely smashed, I was just drinking light beer and wanted to stay somewhat under control.

A lot of single women out. One of my friends lined up his midnight hookup within an hour of being there, mine shortly after. I could tell this task was going to be easy.

I then experienced the phenomenon of the "fat friend cockblock." Chick I was hooking up with was all about coming home with me, but her friend who was staying with her wouldn't let her. Not even my Jeidi mind tricks would work. Neither my friends trying to cheer up the fat girl who was miserable all night. It's alright, another follow up prospect added to the network.

But fun night all around, nothing too crazy happened.

Got to the gig last night and right off the bat...there's trouble. The owner comes up to my g/f and tells her he can't guarantee her a seat, so I tell the owner I can't guarantee I won't pack up my gear.
We work it out but in the meantime I've downed 2 Meyers and Coke doubles on an empty stomach(The prime rib meal was woefully late).
As you can imagine...the room is wobbly and my feet hurt from stupid narrow tux shoes.
It wasn't til midnight that I got back up on that pony and had a relatively good time...I hate playing on NY's Eve!

Hey cool! I'll be here. I might be doing something one of these nights, but I should be free to hang around and meet you. Just tell me what night is best for you.

Sounds like you know the city pretty well. I guess you've been here before then?

Okay, I have to go outside now while it's still sunny and beautiful, but we should definitely figure out a plan later.

I wonder if Joe, Frank and the other NYCers will be around.

I just bought my sister a book of 50s images with replaced captions. There are all these glamed up 50s women, some with kids or having coffee with each other, all looking super-happy and well put-together. And then they slap phrases like my favorite: "No more 'Bitchy Pills' for you, Little Miss Crabby Ass." on the image. I've seen some of them before as buttons and magnets.

Just had to share.

I just sent out an SMS to two friends here in town, see if they wanna come over for a new years' tea / brunch or something tomorrow (small chance tho, new years day, people gotta visit family ...).

So two of my friends did come over, with their little daughter (who's about five) - we had, like, a day-after kind of high tea Razz ...

It was nice, just chatting & playing with the kid, way laid-back. Still got plenty a food left tho ;-)

A. called at about 5:30, just woke up ... they were gonna come over later but I think she fell asleep again ... <grins>

ha, those are funny, we have a few on the fridge. my favorite is a glam girls saying: Halle -f***in-lujah!
Yeah, Kicky, we can put on a mini gathering even if Joe and others are around. I know the city well, been there many times, usually with the monster- the ex.
That reminds me of a new new year's resolution: to fall in love this year. to truly, really fall in love. there. how hard can it be?
anyhoo, i'll start planning a gathering tomorrow. any suggestions for places?

Sorry for the chatter btw, for some reason I feel insanely cheerful. Its not like anything special happened or something. But I guess you gotta take it when you can, eh?

Perhaps its the playlist I'm playing - its got Doug E Fresh's The Show, Grandmaster Flash, Jay Sean (Who is Kamaljit?), Panjabi MC, Dj Swami, that Beach Boys-jungle mash-up djjd linked in the other day, the High-Lows, Franz Ferdinand's This Fire, Hiem, a Stooges/Salt'n'Peppa mash-up, 113's Tonton du bled and the Brooklyn Funk Essentials ... it's very "up"!

The Eminem vs The Smiths one is funny too ("Without This Charming Man" Razz)

I'm not sure what kind of place you'd like, and right now I'm too lazy to think of anything, so let me get back to you on that.

Someone got shot by the police at the end of our street last night. Just about the time I'd normally be coming home. He and 2 other guys were holding up a sportswear store with shotguns. He died a bit later. He was 17.

I'm sure glad the office closed early yesterday. I wouldn't have liked to have been walking by. I'm not that much of a Law and Order fan, though it was interesting seeing the Forensic I.D. van, the regular cop cars and the homicide cars there when the dogs and I were out walking.

Sometimes my location just isn't as great as I think it is. Confused
