I have a problem with my CD-Rom drive. Nine times out of 10 when I insert a CD in the drive it tries to open it in notepad. Every now and then, it plays as it should but for the most part the notepad application opens. Even if I manually go to the folder and select the program, it will then open notepad.
It has occassionally done this with audio CD's as well.
I have checked that autorun is enabled.
I am at a loss as to why this is now happening or why it started.
Running XP Home Edition.
Right click your CD-ROM drive then click Properties.
Click AutoPlay tab and be sure to uncheck Select An Action To Perform by checking Prompt Me Each Time To Choose An Action and press OK
I had checked the options on Autoplay - all are as they should be.
Also checked the program defaults and access settings and they are as they should be.
The cd-rom will recognize most audio disks (most but not all) but with mixed content cd's (eg. installation disks ) it nearly always opens in notepad - and therefore is unaccessable
Did you choose Mixed Content in AutoPlay?
Yes I did.
All options are set to "prompt me each time to choose an action".
Still opens in Notepad.
