Pristine and Ragged............................

One just acquired,
The other bedraggled,
Splintered and wild

The child was excited
With new doll's bright face,
She put aside old one,
In leper's disgrace.

Decided to take them
On a short venture.
Stuff the old one in back
In a brief childish censure.

Down the hill in small wagon,
Excited and flushed,
She turned back her head,
And saw in a rush
The old doll was gone.

Tiny confusion,
furrowed in fusion
She stopped
And turned back.

Sitting in awe neath the leaves
Blowing free,
Sat a figure caressing
The doll, raggedy.

So tender the look
On the mendicant face
Of the savior of old things,
Forgotten in haste.

Our little mistress searched
New china's paint,
Then looked to the fade
Of the eye that was faint.

In fanciful insight our girl realized,
That new is not lovely,
Nor old always wise.

At that moment.................................
The child became a woman.

Inspired by Cavfancier's whimsy

Thanks, stuh. I'm glad that you liked that last stanza, cause I like it myself.

I had in mind the sun's energy when I used the word fusion. A heated insight, so to speak, which makes one think with furrowed brow. (yuk)

Very Happy

Thanks, Cav. The real story was about a child who got a brand new china doll for her birthday. She was so taken with it that the old doll lay uncared for. One day she put them both in her doll wagon and took them for a ride. The old doll fell out along the way, and when she went back to retrieve it, she saw a beggar child cradling the doll with tenderness and affection. The child looked at her new doll, and shyly went to the little waif and asked her, "Will you trade dolls with me? Please!"

After the swap, both were happy. We are attached to the past in many ways, my friend.

This is so sweet Letty. Reminds me of every time my big "little " girl gets a new doll, she is SO thrilled.

Then one day, seemingly from nowhere, she is playing contentedly with all the faded ones with their worn charm.

You captured it beautifully.

Ah, Theo. Someone was asking about you. I don't have one momento of my favorite toys. Gave them all away and my daughter's as well.

Thanks, my friend. I value your comments.

I loved it Letty...a pleasure to read.

By the way, I happen to still have my first and only original barbie doll from the very early 60's.

Ah, Kelly. What a delight to hear from you. I don't even try to publish, my friend, but thank you for the encouragement.

Colorbook, I spent more on clothes for those barbie dolls than I spent on my own.

Very Happy I bought my daughter a barbie with a slinky and glittery dress replete with microphone. One of her "friends" stole it. Later, she gave them all away, too.

girls and their barbies, Ken. er, I mean Kelly.
