How to selectively disable USB devices from within Windows

I'd like to connect a USB "snakelight" to my PC. What would be really cool is if I could leave it constantly in the "ON" position, and control it by pressing one of the shortcut keys on my keyboard.

Are there any applications or Windows protocols that would allow me to selectively disable a specific USB port?

Or, failing that, are there any good desktop (physical desktop) switches / hubs that feature on / off capability for each distinct port? The base included with this gadget fits the bill, but it's a little too cheesy in form and function for my taste. Besides, it comes with a USB fan. Which I don't really like or want.

You could just enable/disable the USB light or appropriate USB root hub in the Device Manager (Start > Run > type: Devmgmt.msc).

To be really snazzy, you could write a batch file utilizing Microsoft's DevCon utility (it's a Command Line utility alternative to Device Manager) to enable/disable the device, then place a shortcut to your batch file/s in your Start Menu, then assign a 'shortcut key' (e.g. Ctrl+Alt+S) to your shortcut (go to the shortcut's properties page, Shortcut tab).

The reason I said to put it on the Start menu is coz shortcut keys only actually work for shortcuts in the Start menu.

Anyway, that would be the cool techie's way to do it....if someone knows of a freeware application that'll allow you to avoid writing a (relatively simple) batch file or two, all the better.

That's exactly the sort of solution I was looking for.

Thanks!
