Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry and members of his staff watch game 7 of American League baseball between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox at the Holiday Inn in Boardman, Ohio.
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Baseball fans around the United States were awaiting the results of the baseball playoff between the St. Louis (Missouri) Cardinals and the Houston (Texas) Astros, a duel being seen as a mirror of the US presidential race.
The victor in that seventh and deciding playoff game wins the right to challenge the Boston Red Sox for the World Series championship.
The Red Sox on Wednesday defeated the New York Yankees to claim a spot in the seven-game World Series baseball championship.
If a Texas-Boston matchup emerges, it will echo the US presidential contest in which Massachusetts Senator John Kerry -- a Boston resident -- is vying to unseat incumbent President George W. Bush, a former Texas governor. (AFP)
