Next check both Ad-aware and Nortons for updates,
Next Reboot to safe mode ( by tapping the F8 key on start up) Run a full system scan with Nortons and run a scan with Ad-aware,


Go Here and download the lates version of HJT , Remove the old version

It turns out that the Sasser was only a remnant in the registry (fortunately), but the machine has been scanned with an updated Norton AV as well as AdAware and SpySweeper in Safe Mode. Here's the new HijackThis log. Look forward to hearing back!

No idea what the Base Mapi.exe is. Couldn't find any info on the web either, which makes me suspect that it is a problem file. I'll update you after the next attempt at removing the search bar/spyware.

And now for the good news ...
We gave up running scans in the end and decided to opt for a full rebuild of the PC - just to be sure. We'd already spent 6 hours on the problem before this latest session and decided it would be quicker to do a backup and reinstall from scratch. Thanks for all the help Don.
