I already have a bag with several un-finished or un-used balls of yarn.
Oh, pooh on you (well, not exactly you), ehBeth. Sure and you can weave those ends before or after the join.
All right, I guess you are going to get my passport picture... in the vest. Once I get a scanner going...
Why aren't there more knitting threads on A2K?
Is this the only one?

Maybe you should start your own knitting thread Gus
Knitting's good stuff.
l'k's already collecting yarn
uh oh
Osso - I agree with you about knotting instead of weaving in the loose ends. I do knit my colors together, and will try to weave in. But, sometimes (as with your vest), it just doesn't seem neccessary.
I bought new yarn today. Some oceanic variegated mohair and more eyelash yarn to carry on it. It's a fine yarn and I'll be using size 8 needles, so it will be a bit airy.
I'm not sure I'd go with the size 8 needle, littlek. Wouldn't a 6 or a 7 be more appropriate for such a project?
I think that 8 is gonna get you in trouble.
It may just get me in trouble, you're right (odd). I can't seem to figure out how many stitches to cast on. They say you should make a scarf between 8 and 7.5 inches wide. Does one stretch out the stitches or scrunch them together when measuring? I am trying to find it's natural stance on the needle to get an accurate measurement, but I'm feeling under-qualified. I did some searches to try to figure it out and haven't found much specific help.
Don't scrunch, k. Do about an inch test pattern, and use that as a measurement. A sort of natural flow, if you may. I'm sorry I have to get so technical with you on this subject, but I'm trying to teach you. Please.... bear with me.
gus is talking about test swatches?
yikes!
Oma, is that you?
Funny thing is that he syas what the internet knitting pages say - except he added "don't scrunch". Thanks for the advice Gus.
I've gone a few rows at about 46 (damn yarn is hard not to split - I keep picking up extra stitiches.) It looks like the right width. I've carried one of the eyelash yarns already..... looking ok.
You're not ready for this maneuver yet, littlek, but when I feel you are, I will teach you the Brazilian Death Knot. It's quite complicated, involves several quick dips and a fast turn.
But keep practicing. You must become "one with the yarn."
And then.... you will be ready.
Oh, you can work out of that with the Portuguese slip stitch...
I took pix. The first one is of Silvi's not-quite-finished scarf
and the second is the start of my mother's scarf.
Very warming!
Silvi's looks nicely lined up, and mother's scarf is diving inward... but I am iconoclastic enough to not worry about either. Scarves are love.
Oooh, I love the colors on the new one. And Silvi's looks very nice too. Good job!
Good work!
Now on to purling ...
....
I think the general needs a new scarf to help him get over his cold.
Is our little man sick?
I think the new one is diving in because it's sort of scrunched on the needle. The knit is very loose and I shove it down the needle to keep it from falling off the end.
Thanks all.....
Littlek, I think this would make an interesting skirt for you to wear at the A2K Christmas party.
Make a tube top to go with it and you'll be the hit of the party.
