Wisdom comes with age, so maybe we have to be born older, or at least have wise parents to give us a head start and a model, or lacking that have wise societal models to guide us. We have a children's pop culture and have elected a spiritually-arrested child for president. What does that say about our chances for survival?

Europe is finally uniting after centuries of war. Maybe the U.S. has to go through the misery of war on her own shores in order to attain moderation. Certainly, we are going in the right direction to achieve that, backwards that is. Bush in his reactionary mood seems to like the 19th century better than the 21st.

The U.S. has the tremendous power and wealth to either lead the world to enlightenment or to diaster. It doesn't bode well for the world that we've just re-elected a shallow, selfish, spoiled brat.
