@tsarstepan,
I was curious about that MPH figure because I thought they could fly faster than that. I'm still not sure what top speed would be in the sort of flying shown in your video but I just watched a National Geographic video that puts top dive speed at 240 MPH (at least as so far measured).

@blatham,
I also posted another falcon video on Edgar's bird post. Flying straight ahead is definitely not as fast as the same bird dive bombing its prey.

The body shop still hasn't done a full tear-down on my car to assess damage and estimate repair total so I'm still not sure if that car comes back to me or if I get a $23,000 check. I've been shopping around just in case and Z4s with relatively low miles and with a standard tranny (or auto with shift paddles) are tougher to find than I'd expected. The newer 3 series cars (5th generation 2005 on) are plentiful and often with very low mileage. I'd had a 2007 coupe and loved it. If I can find a decent deal on the convertible model, I'll be very tempted. But I'd prefer a two-seater. Some Boxters around but few with low miles and I suspect I'd become unhappy with the engine noise on long drives.

@tsarstepan,
Those talons on the leather upholstery wouldn't do it any good but I'd put up with it for a bird that cool..

Yep, the sound of the Bimmer straight six is automotive music at its best

@Leadfoot,
Contacted the body shop today. Present repair total around $18,000 so unless they find something else, I'll probably get my Z3 back. Should know tomorrow or next day. Not sure just how much that is going to devalue my car but I suspect it won't be a small hit.

@blatham,
Probably will. On the bright side, the value will probably keep going up.
I plan to keep mine until I can't drive anymore so I don't think about resale value anyway.

In other news, the knock sensor went bad on my Slingshot. It actually runs better than when it works. Midrange power is up a bit and throttle response is much better. I think the ECU must run the mixture richer to avoid detonation since it can't hear it anymore. Down a couple of MPG though so I ordered a replacement. I'm thinking about installing a switch to disable it when I go to track days.

As it happens, that's one of my life mottos.

That's a good one. I do like to run as close to it as possible though Smile

@tsarstepan,
Crazy ain't it?

Both GM and Ford are working with outside people to develop versions of the Camaro (in the form of a pseudo Pontiac Firebird 455 HD) and Mustang GT 350/500's with over 1000 HP.

Who would have guessed there'd be another HP war in the age of environmental awareness!

@Leadfoot,
I'm glad some car manufacturers are going that direction. Japan needs to revitalize their sports car frenzy of the 90s.

@tsarstepan,
There is hope for them. The Supra is rumored to be back soon.
And for some ridiculous reason the new Civic Type R is very appealing to me (except for the silly styling). Under 3000 lbs and just over 300 HP is about the perfect balance. I wish I had room in the barn for one. Can't bear the thought of putting any of my current horses out to pasture. Yet.
