You realize, of course, Panz, that the song was meant for your present state of mind. Although many A2K'ers offer heart felt advice, no one can really do anything but you.

With love from Letty

Hank Williams was a hellova songwriter, and no mean poet neither.
Was it him, was it he who wrote "I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love With You?" Classic americana to the ears of a Brit.

Old Hank did not do much standing and waiting, though, by all accounts. I daresay he could not quote Milton; but Milton never did any of his songs, either.

not me either! (not done)

One night in jail
My head did flail

Lost in an abyss
I could not dismiss

No solace for my soul
As eternity was lost in whole

(true story) Embarrassed

McTag,

Let me see if I can remember the words to that one:

Today I passed you on the street,
And my heart fell at your feet,
I can't help it if I'm still in love with you.

Somebody else what at your side,
And she looked so satisfied,
I can't help it if I'm still in love with you.

Bridge--can't quite remember.

But you're right, buddy. Milton couldn't have written that song. Love it.
He had his hands full with Paradise Lost...

No! No! husker. One night in jail. Uhoh!. Let me guess. Speeding, right?
Our musician friend was arrested one night and was really arrogant about NOT wanting to sign a property bond. Our friend, a deputy, said after spending one night in jail, he was ready to sign the Declaration of Independence. Razz

panz, honey. The most wonderful feeling in the world is the feeling one gets when friends rally round the old flaggin' spirits. I just know from experience, that it takes two to tango. (let the others do their own dance)

Interesting, my friends. I posted this thread based on a whim and a memory. That's what philosophy is truly all about.

If Walter were here, I'd remind him about the history of the song My Buddy. Smile

Wow! panz. Our piano player's son went on the road with Chet Baker..subtle trumpet player.

Let's see if I can remember My Buddy:

Nights are long since you went away,
I think about you all through the day,
My Buddy,
My Buddy
No buddy quite so true.

Miss your voice the touch of your hand
That let me know that you understand,
My buddy,
My buddy,

Your buddy misses you.

I don't believe that one has a bridge. Unusual...feel free to correct me, however.

Strangely enough that was about one man to another. During the war, each GI had a partner. It was dubbed the buddy system. Obviously, the song was about the buddy who had become a casualty of war. Damn. I just felt a tear in my throat. <smile>

That damn Brit says he got his feelings hurt by someone and he wants to leave, so I'm gonna sing my buddy to him.
Thanks Let, and if you get a chance...pick up a recording of Chet singing it...you'll choke up

Ah, husker, honey. I should have known. yes, often we are a prisoner of our own bodies.

"Stone walls do not a prison make nor iron bars a cage...." Richard Lovelace.

panz, somewhere here I have a cd by Chet Baker. I need to research him. It seems to me that he died in a most unlikely way. Well, if the Grand Duke got his feelings hurt, we must kiss them and make them all well. If only it was that simple. Please post the link, panz.

Just found out that Chet died in the Netherlands. A heroin addict? Somehow I remember that he was killed in an alley. Strange. Oscar Peterson quit singing because he said that he sounded too much like Nat Cole. Wow.

and I still think of John of England. Just Margo and me and Millie and Mae. Mollie is long gone. and that's a wrap. <smile>

Goodnight from Flo

You remember well, Letty.

I passed by the Ritz last Saturday night and I can't say I noticed any angels, but there might have been an nightingale singing in Berkeley Square when my date and I kissed and said goodnight! Very Happy

Pete gets out of the kitchen once in a while, does he not, panz? Do you know the song?

That certain night, the night we met
There was magic abroad in the air
There were angels dining at the Ritz
And a nightingale sang in Berkeley Square

I may be right, I may be wrong
But I'm perfectly willing to swear
That when you turned and smiled at me
A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square

The moon that lingered over London town
Poor puzzled moon, he wore a frown
How could he know we two were so in love
The whole darned world seemed upside down

The streets of town were paved with stars
It was such a romantic affair
And as we kissed and said good-night
A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square

The moon that lingered over London town
Poor puzzled moon, he wore a frown
How could he know we two were so in love
The whole darned world seemed upside down

The streets of town were paved with stars
It was such a romantic affair
And as we kissed and said good-night
A nightingale sang
A nightingale sang
I know 'cause I was there
That night in Berkeley Square

Lovely, is it not?
