VOIP (or Voice Over Internet Protocol) is the new way to make and receive phone calls. Your phone calls are converted into data that zips through your high-speed Internet connection.
I am at work. It's called eating your own dog food.
We sell VoIP equipment, so we have to use it.
I set up & occssionally use some Vonage (
www.vonage.com ) solutions for clients. Works well. I'm also interested in using SkypeOut (
www.skype.com ) for international calls from home.
I'm testing it for work, so that we can have cheap communication with our overseas offices.

we had the software here for awhile - but never really used or tried
Hey there. Yes, I am using VOIP technology, and so far, for 20 bucks a month for local and long distance unlimited, the price, the service, and the technology are all working in my favor.
The service I chose to use was Lingo Broadband Phone Service, and I must say that for me, the quality of the phone service, the easy installation, and the friendly customer service has made it very worthwhile for me.
For anyone wanting to check it out, go to Lingo.com
If you would like to sign up, and waive HALF of the equipment fee (a phone adaptor) that is shipped to your doorstep, send me an email and we can get the ball rolling. I am not a paid spokesperson, merely a very satisfied customer. The reason I chose Lingo over more well known companies, such as Vonage, is the fact that while I can use any area code of my liking, I wanted an area code that was the same as I am using now, plus the price. I'm an old guy and do not take too well to change.
I love my new phone service.
I'm working on rough memory here but with skype can't you set-up you own server and go that route with out joining a network?
I remember seeing a plac to get free numbers??
I could be way wrong just something I remember.
Well I decided to do it today signed up for the big V plan. Been having some trouble with the cellphone connections and this might be a good alternative for a couple months. Not going to replace the real phone until I have the links and feel real good about this plan.
