Spring Evolution
Again the sun kissed down
Upon the newborn buds -
Forest branches start their cycles
Of awakening, every twig is greening
At the end, downward to another
Yearly ring recording
Atmospheric composition - the
Climate's favorability - the transcript
Of greenhouse abuse
And our hands shake more pronouncedly,
Clutching flowers in the sun - dawdling, as if
This place and us were rivers diverging -
An epoch running our distant ways, so far
Along we no longer see each other's banks
We're there, though unfamiliar
Like the mighty elms surrounding us,
We begin anew - we accommodate the
Microscopic changes as they alter our domain,
As they accumulate -
So the end and beginning
Are truly incompatible, by design
Again the sun kissed down
Upon survivors, the eating dogs
Of winter hibernating now -
And those hollow forest hulks disintegrate
To nourish newborn buds
Of divergent evolution

Kelly, are you published? The title of your poem is a winner because in spite of what people observe, there are seasons to every aspect of life.
And now the autumn nocturne sadly calls,
With changing leaves all made.
"golden birds with broken wings."
I was taken by this stanza:
And our hands shake more pronouncedly,
Clutching flowers in the sun - dawdling, as if
This place and us were rivers diverging -
An epoch running our distant ways, so far
Along we no longer see each other's banks
Letty, yes, a bit. This came from my fifth published collection, by Llumina Press Poetry Series, in June of 2004. My first collection was released by Gulrang Publishers in 1983, titled "Vision: Behind My Eyes"... Between 1978 and here, I've had about 475 poems published... I have been quite lucky :-)
As a matter of fact, to get this forum rolling, I will announce a contest of sorts this week and give away three copies of Vapours of Promise, along with the audiobook. Stay tuned!
Thanks for your kind comments :-)
Kelly, I hope to see Cav published also. Luck, my friend, has nothing to do with it-- talent and timing, everything.
Ahh that force... Luck...
:-) Cav is an awesome talent! Many folks here should get published!
Again, you produce annother powerful and thoughtful piece!
I know this poem was for Letty but I read it and HAD to comment!!! I love the way you can make words many of us use every day to such great effect that conveys so much emotion.
Wow...for one, thanks for the compliments, and this was just such a fantastic piece! I loved every word. I mean, I can't even choose a favourite phrase or stanza, it's complete in every way.
You fellow poets are too kind - thank you Blacklacebutterfly (a beautiful alias, by the way), and my new friend Cav!
<smile> To all of you who think in verse; Who splash color on the senses; who welcome spring but live with winter.................................
Think of me every time....for we are all books, short stories, poems, sculptures; melodies melded together on a canvas planet.
Kelly's poetry is not for me alone, but I feel light in the recognition.
Thank you!
I think Letty's most astute observations capture the essence of what believe in my heart. I believe amazon.com published a piece of my very similar thoughts on their editorial review page for my recent book, though, to be honest, I haven't checked there in awhile. If you are inclined to look and see if it is there, go to amazon and type 'Kelly Vinal' in the search box and see!
