That Satisfaction

It's that I find you the most fascinating
That's the most frustrating,
You captivate me
All though it offends me
That you do
Eye's all knowing
Sexily penetrating
A mouth I could kissÂ…

I think my heart's a fool
In your own words ?'retarded'
I find that my affection for you
Is no good
Like your habits
Maybe loving a drug addict would be less depressing
If he lived close by

No need to mince my words
The truth is like your four/five lines cut waiting
On the dash of your black Peugeot hatch
In some suburban road near Long Street
Probably Gardens or Seapoint
Were old grannies
Walk sausage dogs longer
Then any thing you've ever sniffed
And the mountain glows
In Cape Town's late setting sun
Bringing with it another night
Another binge

Yet you still hold my attention
Over all these kilometers
Despite the sadism you partake in
I'm completely taken with you
I love (hate) you
But more then that I love to pretend you mean nothing
Because to you I mean nothing
And I don't give any self absorbed
Coke head that satisfaction

to my unloved love in Cape Town may you never read this poem as it will only give you satisfaction to know that I care for you. to the readers of this poem I hope you are not as romantic as I am, as I still hold ideals even in the face of addiction.

I'm certain nobody here could claim your title of 'chief romantic' after that fine poem, friend :-)

thanks kelly it's hard writing personal stuff and getting responses cos there's a little bit of my soul in this kind of poem, it's not just a description of a scene but rather a way of coping with an emotion by writing it down

Isn't that how most poems are? A piece of ones soul, a way of coping with emotions by writing them down? By the way, nice poem!! Keep it up!!

thanks, yes and no some poems are less personal then others. I mean you ever read Standing on Westminster bridge or the White Cliffs of Dover they can never be as personal our revealing as something like Song (Christina Rosseti) or Howl by Allen Ginsberg.

If you go back through history and read some of the greatest poetry, it was written in the same spirit and premise of yours. Keep that stuff coming! I (and probably not just me here) love it!

I have to feel the emotion of a poem to like a poem. I mean, anyone can write, but without the emotion it's pretty much dead, at least in my opinion.
