I think he does get it, osso.
I don't think he's hiding or ashamed about his name but that he just doesn't feel like his history is available for public consumption because most people don't get it. Among us, it's easy, but even I've given up trying to explain it to others.
For example:
I was driving him to school the other day and he said something and I cracked up and said "Sometimes you sound so much like your mom!"
And he said "Well, she is my mom..."
And I said "I know..."
And he said "And so are you..."
And I said "Of course..."
It was just a nice moment.
But him having to explain that kind of moment to a bunch of 15 year olds is a lot more complicated. It just leads to other questions and he doesn't want to share that with everyone.
Changing his name to the one everyone knows him by gives him the option to share or not.
Does that make sense?
