Help, I've lost contol of my computer!!!!!!!!!

I recently upgraded from '98 to 2000, with a clean install. I just got around to installing TweakUI. Whilst having a play, I made it remove Control Panel from my start menu. Now it won't let me access it. Everything I try comes up with the message "cannot perform this operation due to restrictions in effect".

Help me, I'm going crazy!!!!

There is only one user profile: the one I'm using. Stupidly I also removed the option of changing users. (I'm the only person who uses the comp, so I didn't think it was nessecary)

Can you just go back to Tweak UI and restore your access?

I can't test right now, I can't afford to scew up the box I'm on.

I think Tweak will use the Registry to perform its task:
Go to Start and click Run
In Run type gpedit.msc
Click the + sign of Adminitrative Templates under User Configuration
Click the yellow folder of Control Panel
In the right panel you'll find an entry called Prohibit Access to The Control Panel
Double click this entry and check Disabled and click OK
Go to Start/Run again
In Run type secedit /refreshpolicy user_policy /enforce

See if this can solve the problem

If not use plan B:

In Run, type regedit
Click File and then Export. Type a file name and clcik Save.
(This will save your registry in case you commit an error)

Click the + sign of HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Then click the yellow folder of Control Panel
Look in the right panel and you'll see almost these entries:

access.cpl
appwiz.cpl
console.cpl
timedate.cpl
desk.cpl
fax.cpl
hdwwiz.cpl
irprops.cpl
intl.cpl
inetcpl.cpl
joy.cpl
liccpa.cpl
main.cpl
mlcfg32.cpl
mmsys.cpl
modem.cpl
ncpa.cpl
netcpl.cpl
nwc.cpl
odbccp32.cpl
devapps.cpl
powercfg.cpl
sticpl.cpl
srvmgr.cpl
sapi.cpl
sysdm.cpl
telephon.cpl
tweakui.cpl
nusrmgr.cpl
wspcpl32.cpl
quicktime.cpl
S32LUCP1.cpl
cpqmgmt.cpl

You'll notice that the value is set to "NO". "NO" means that these applets are hidden.
To unhide these applets, just delete them.

Thanks for all you're help. I couldn't use tweak UI, it didn't allow me to change it, same with the control panel. Essentially I had one user profile on my computer without Admin rights. I strongly advise against anyone doing that!

In the end I somehow managed to create another user with Admin rights. Not the best way of doing it, but it worked.

Cyanure, I know who to ask next time I have a problem with 2000!!!
Thanks again.
