I ask because bikinis were found in a house used by Bin Laden overrun by Afghan forces.

Heh heh. While we are talking about religion, let me relate a parable, which just happens to be true. The religious right in the US has long been campaigning for money to get Howard Stern off the airwaves. Stern contacted one prominent leader of one of these radical groups and simply asked "Hey, if you give me the money you have collected to get me off the air, I will leave voluntarily. I'm sick of it anyway." Guess what? No deal. It's called religious hypocrisy, and it's rampant in the world today.

Maybe that bikini belonged to Bin Laden's wife. It's acceptable to wear bikinis or any other lingerie for one's husband.

In catholic Italy, on lots of beaches bikinis are not allowed.

Which beaches, I wonder. I've been to a few where it seemed that tops were not allowed.

RE: bikinis. If it's bikini underwear, I don't see the problem as it goes under. Apparently there is some argument within about whether bras are ok, though.

I have to verify this: to walk around at beaches wearing a bikini, especially to enter a kiosk, snack bar etc.

Fines up to 200 Euros.


Close to Venice there are a couple of communities, which forbid bikinis totatlly. (I'm not sure, if this is properly obeyed, watched and prosecuted.)

Aparantly they all must be accompanied by brothers sisters mothers or fathers. Quite a crowd, thats called modesty.
