I was uncertain where to post these recent stories, and thought that rather than attempt to tack them on to an existing thread, I'd start a thread that anyone can use to post news and interesting stories about the world outside our world. I only ask that the stories be restricted to what's going on off the Earth, in our solar system and beyond.

********************************************

Here are some recent stories about both our solar system, and about star systems far away:

A mission to the asteroid belt: NASA Prepares to Launch First U.S. Asteroid Sample Return Mission.

Marching to the tune of a different drummer: BEYOND NEPTUNE, A CHUNK OF ICE IS ORBITING THE SUN IN THE WRONG DIRECTION

Possible exoplanet orbits Proxima Centauri: Rumored Exoplanet May be Closest Earth-Like Planet Ever Discovered

More on the Proxima Centauri story from Hubble: The proper motion path of Proxima Centauri.

Also from Huble, a bad neighborhood: White dwarf lashes red dwarf with mystery ray.

**********************************************

It seems to me that the more we learn about the cosmos, the more clearly we see how very little we really know about how the cosmos is organized.

@Setanta,
I believe there are a couple of new telescope technologies in the horizon as well.

Cool beans . . . getting telescopes out of the atmosphere made such a difference.

Here's an interesting program on theoretical physics, which i just caught the tail end of last night.

Similes and Science

Below the fancy picture, there's a play button for the full episode, which runs just under and hour. I'm going to go listen to the full show when i'm done here.

In that case, it's no skin off your nose.

Take your idiotic, unsubstantiated conspiracy theory claptrap elsewhere.
