Ring democracy,
like the Angelus bell
o'er the Liffey swell.
Ring out in wind chimes,
snare the peacocks
masquerading in your name.
Bang out loud metallic drones
until you crack like Liberty,
the pulpit, the man
with a strange anthem,
the neighbour with eyes
sewn shut.
WOW...and I mean WOW, Cav. ".....eyes sewn shut...." Another WOW!
You know, Cav. It's strange to me that psychologists are deeming post hurricane jitters in the same way that they would view post traumatic stress disorder. I suppose that's why it is difficult for me to write poetry now. I'm so glad that you are still hanging in, my friend.
I haven't been a prolific writer since university, but I think the quality of the work has improved. You may not be writing poetry right now, but your impressions of the people there that you posted were incredibly touching, and wonderful. I have come to the conclusion that as long as one is writing something, even if it's just posting here, the creative juices continue to flow.
Keep on keeping on, Cav. I had to quit writing poems to concentrate on other forms of writing, but I still appreciate what you, Letty and other a2k members write.
edgar, by chance I ran into a relative at a wedding who is a poet and publisher. She pointed me to weekly poetry gathering here in the city which hosts writers from the amateur to the prize-winning. I am planning on attending to listen, read, and get further opinions. I'm looking forward to it actually.
A nice masterpiece! They key to getting published is submitting this sort of excellent poetry to publications which publish them. That was my key to opening the door.
Thanks kellyvinal. I suppose an independent press would be most helpful?
The independents are the gateways of modernist free expression. Some quality resources out there. I think you would do well...
