HiJack Log - Please Help Me Fix My Sisters Machine!!!

Reply Mon 13 Sep, 2004 12:49 pm
I am visiting my sister on the east coast and her machine has been messed for a while apparently. I have been peeking through stuff with regcleaner and spybot, but there is too much on her cpu that I dont know. (Mine is a stripped down gaming/media machiine that I look at often enough that I can tell whats good and whats not). I Started googling the unfamiliar entries and kept getting THIS site with logs from Hijack This! So I installed it, ran it, and here is my log!

I am only gonna be here for another two days, if I could get some quick help I would be eternally and anonymously grateful Smile

Hi wyattnoisebeta
Thats pretty messy lets see what we can do:
First
You have a Peper Trojan
Go here and run the The Removal Tool
. You must be connected to the internet for it to work.
Close all open windows then run it. It will run in a flash so don't think it hasn't worked!
Reboot
Next
Dowload the following program

CWShredder
It should be the current version, but check for updates

Run Program cwshredder and have it fix anything it finds.

Make sure you click the "Fix" button

Next:
Download Ad-aware CHECK FOR UPDATES.
Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:

check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine:

Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
Press "Scan Now"
- Check option "Use Custom scanning options"
- Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"
- Press "Select drives\folders to scan"
- Select the active partition which is usually C:
Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives...
It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys.
Right-click in that pane and choose "select all"

Now press "Next" again.
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK."

Next
Dowload the latest version of Spybot 1.3. Please check it for updates, Run the program and have it fix anything it finds in Red.

Restart your computer
( Just for good measure reboot to safe mode and run them all again)

Restart to normal mode again please

Next
Please disable System Restore,
How to turn off or turn on Windows XP System Restore

Next:
Go Here BitDefender Scan Online
Run a scan with BitDefender as well, Be sure and Check Auto Clean.

Next:
Go here Trend Micro - Free online virus Scan
Be sure and check Auto Clean before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location so you can delete it yourself.

Next

Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it hjt.
Drag HJT into it please,

Revove the version from the Temp folder,

Restart HJT and post back a fresh log please

OKay here is my new log file...
I gotta confess, I may have missed a step in the process. I have a shitload of things to do while I am in NY. Mostly electrical work, so I have been starting one app and walking away. Repeat process.

I appreciate your help though.

so here is my next question after review of my log. are there many error codes i REALLY should be concerned with?

The R1 could be Legit.
The R3 might get cleaned up/created with a disc cleanup (?)
The N3 will go away if I nuke netscape
The O2 I dont understand at all
The O3 could be legit
The O4's concern me
The O9 could be legit
The O16 could be legit

correct?

I have regcleaner whic lets me see & completely wipe several of these - I just dont know if I should or not...

You have to be careful, Lets go this route,

First
Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it hjt.
Drag HJT into it please,

Next
Please restart HJT put a check next to the following, close all open windows and click "Fix Checked"

Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner,

Do you happen to know what this was ?
c:\documents and settings\kimberly robinson\local settings\temp\UD.exe

Can you get your sisster to right click the file and get us the info on it.
There is a legit file but I would like to be sure,

How did it seem to be running ?

Again sorry for not getting back sooner, I know this is the harder way to deal with it,

Or just have your sister reply either way
