"The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness." - John Kenneth Galbraith

"A conservative is a man with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned to walk forward."
-- Franklin D. Roosevelt, radio speech, October 26, 1939.

John Stuart Mill
I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally Conservative. I believe that is so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it.
Letter

And the other side:

He who is not a liberal when he is young, has no heart. He who is not a conservative when he's grown, has no brain.
-Winston Churchill

"Only once in a generation are we lifted above materialism; that is why conservatism rules two-thirds of the time."
-- Woodrow Wilson
