Not movies that simply come out in summer but movies that depict summer time (wherever you live).

Summer for me?
Jaws (1975)
Dogtown and Z-Boys (2001 Documentary)
Step Into Liquid (2003 Documentary)

Clearly you don't want to miss the frolics and frivolity of Staten Island Summer.
(it helps to have some familiarity with the Horrrrrrifying borough, but it's not a requirement)

www.imdb.com/title/tt3137764/

can't say it was a favorite but it gave me a few laughs.

...and not to be missed or forgotten, there was In The Heat of the Night. It's one of those movies which I can enjoy again and again without getting bored.

Oh yeah, Jaws definately.

Also, Alien. I looked it up and that came out in May of 1979.

I remember seeing upon its release in a theater that had chairs that rocked. At one point during the film I looked away for a moment because I was scared. I remember seeing all these chairs frantically rocking back and forth.

@chai2,
Not asking for movies that came out in Summer (or summer blockbusters)....

When you think of summer time, you associate that with Alien? I guess there's A TON of sweating in that film. Wink

I think of older movies, such as Picnic and Summer Place.

@edgarblythe,
I thought of Splendor in the Grass, though I remember little about it. Maybe I just like the movie title.
Yes, to Picnic.

Yeah I do. Because it came out in May, and that's when my friends and I saw it. I tend to think about who I was with, and what else we were doing around that time.

During the summer, we'd all go to at least 2 or 3 movies a week.

It was a thing, ya know?

Now I just binge on Netflix.

Finished OITNB this morning BTW. jeez.

Jaws, yes.

Breaking Away. Definitely a summer movie and one of my favorites.

I do not connect movies and summer at all. Summer is the long bright nights without movies and TV.
Going to the movies started in the middle of August when the nights got darker and the air was chilly and the sound of birds flying got another sound
There was dew on the grass again.
It got to be fall.

@saab,
Saab.... What I mean by summer movies. Not necessarily movies that have to be released in summer or watched in summer but definitely are defined by the season:
The Kings of Summer (2013)

Stand By Me (1986)

I have a feeling that The Goonies takes place in late August.

They went to Florida in the movie, but I discovered the hotel used in the movie was the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego.

I went there last year (not staying there of course) and it's really a wonder place. So well maintained. We sat in the gardens there for an hour or so.

What really got me was when we were going through the lobby. I looked and said "Those are the elevators!" They stuck out in my mind in the movie, and there they were, big as life.

It really is a beautiful place.

@chai2,
We were at the wedding of a colleague of my husband, I think the first time I'd been inside the place, though I lived in the San Diego area for a while and had a boyfriend there later on. We didn't stay long, long drive, and things were already moving along. The groom passed out, from whatever.

What I don't remember is what happened next. They were both interesting in person.
