Trying to come up with names for the two main characters for my story. Right now, I'm thinking Audrey and Alexandra.
Since both names start with A, will they be too similar? I don't want to confuse readers...

I'm sure readers won't be confused.
They aren't similar names.
What I wanna know is will they first come across each other in a LGBT bar?

@chai2,
Those are not, but I'm glad to see some writers paying attention. I'm easily confused and Doctor Zhivago comes to mind.

I have read crappy novels in which (at times) I have become confused about who each character was, and had to go back a few pages to clear things up. Usually about this time (or shortly after) I tend to discard the book. It's not necessarily similar names that do it. Personally I would not give my main characters names as similar as you describe, however, if your writing is good, it won't matter, and if your writing is bad, there will be a ton of other issues to address.

It only becomes confusing when there are too many characters.
