Usually what we tell people is to (a) ask around with anyone who was alive around the time of your conception (I am assuming you are looking for your father?) - e. g. your mother, her classmates if she was in school at the time, your grandparents, etc. and (b ) check town records as well as you can for your place of birth and (c) consider hiring a skip tracer or private detective if you are really determined.

Also understand that people do not necessarily want to be found; it's not all happy family reunions.
