Chitown as in Chicago? Seriously?
Yup, I'm going there around the 10th of Dec. But I'll be
connecting to a flight to San Diego. But I'll try to see MJ if I can work it out so that I have some time. Is the statue
still outside the United Center?
Yeah, but I'm not
likin' MJ just now. Stupid philandering $250,000 payoffing hypocrite.
MJ is MJ, he's
allowed to cheat on his wife. Not my thinking but the demi god is the teflon star. Nothing sticks to him.
I'm not, like,
surprised, but I'm perturbed. This with Kirby's latest legal problems make me even more negative about sports figures as
ANY kind of role model. Kirby!!
But I digress.
I'm a lot angrier
at MJ for playing for the Wizards than anything else. I don't really care what he does off the court.
(Maybe getting to
split time.)
I'm certainly mad at him for coming back off of retirement AGAIN. But I'm also mad because that's
been so much of his image and subsequent selling power, Mr. Integrity, stand-up dude, family man, etc. As I told my hubby
when he gave me the scoop, "That's the best $250,000 he ever spent." It doesn't matter now, but 10 years ago? That would
have been huge, and cost him major endorsments.
(In case it's not clear, I only have such strong feelings about it
because basketball-wise, nay, sport-wise, Brett Favre has been his only rival for my affections.)
Ok, I split
it.
I used to be his biggest fan. But thankfully I've been away (no B-Ball in Brazil) and didn't have to watch him
embarass himself.
What made him great
does not translate well to retirement. (Or to marital fidelity -- I always doubted the good guy schtick.) He must must must
be the best and prove himself and show those little pipsqueaks how it's done... He had such an amazing opportunity to go
out on top (that move! to sink the basket to win the series... doesn't get better than that) and I'm sad he had to
squander it.
Did you know that
the Bulls won the championship at least twice on my birthday?
I remember that shot. I can't ever forget that.
What a birthday
present!
Yup, can see it super slow mo, driving to the right, then pulling up and (oh hell... jason kidd? who?)
zooming right past, wide open, up up up and SWOOSH!
Sighh...
Twas Bryon Russell,
and he'd stripped the ball from the Mailman a play earlier.
Right right right
on the defensive play. Made it happen on both ends. Byron Russell, though? I thought it was a more iconic next
generation-type up-and-comer. Maybe just should have been, symblically, and so registered as such.
Bryon wasn't too
young but he had recently broken off the bench so he might have seemed like a new player. And he was being touted as the
Jazz's stopper.
Nope. you're
right, Byron Russel. Check it out:

Clip near the
bottom...
Oh gawd, I;ve got tears in my eyes...
I've seen it a
million times but am now downloading quicktime to see it again (since the real player file seems to be a dead link).
It gave me some
problems too, but then eventually worked even though there was a "no longer operative" (or something) message. Clicking on
the second of the two links offered seemed to work better.
It finally worked,
man I need a hankie.
