@Robert Gentel,
Also like both of Louis CK's ones (Lucky Louie and Louie). Am rewatching Fresh Prince a bit these days and surprised at how well it aged.

I enjoy Fresh Prince, except for the parts where Carleton is made to look ridiculous and humiliated, which is often.

@edgarblythe,
I don't mind that, it's his role, but was noting just how awful that role is the other day. Will gets to play the cool guy (and part of that rubs off onto his real-world image) and Alfonso Ribeiro probably can't ever get out of that type cast.

M*A*S*H
Big Bang Theory
Mary Tyler Moore
anything with Bob Newhart

There must be more. Can't think right now!

M*A*S*H comes up so much in this kind of discussion that I'm gonna have to check it out someday.

@Robert Gentel,
Forgot Silicon Valley, even if the tech isn't too realistic and the nerds/geeks are portrayed over-the-top it's yet another good Mike Judge joint.

Speaking of which I've excluded all my favorite animated comedies, not sure if those are considered sitcoms or not but if so my list would be full of them.

@jespah,
Yes on MASH and Moore and Newhart, don't know Big Bang.

Trying to remember if I liked or hated several others. I remember Jackie Gleason, et al, annoying me. I did like I love Lucy at the time. I stopped with a lot of tv, too much other stuff going on, but still liked some shows.
Was Married with Children considered a sitcom? I suppose so. I watched it, but wasn't all engrossed.

Not sure it's a sitcom as such, but I liked Frederic Raphael's The Glittering Prizes, a British series. There was at least some comedy, but also fairly serious stuff. He wrote the movie Two for the Road, if any a2kers remember that. Also a novelist and more.

I remember being intensely invested in Glittering Prizes.

There was a British series writer I loved but right now I forget the subject matter much less the title or if it was comedic. I'll noodle around in my brain and report if I remember it; I wasn't the only one who liked the writing.

@Robert Gentel,
IN sequence time-wise (but not by faves):

Dick Van Dyke Show
Monty Python's Flying Circus
All in the Family
MASH
Mary Tyler Moore show
Barney Miller
Newhart, Bob Newhart Show (all 3 of his series, to be honest)
Mad About You
Seinfeld
Taxi

Fawlty Towers (John Cleese)
Curb Your Enthusiasm (Larry David, Seinfeld's main writer)
Boston Legal
Big Bang Theory (last year it's going/gone downhill...not bad for a comedy with a 9-yr run)

@Ragman,
I never got into Larry David's own show. I always thought his lines were too forced and didnt flow as well as those of Seinfeld. Weird , his tracks are all over Seinfeld but I wasnt impressed with "Curb your enthusiasm"

Mary Tyler Moore, when she was part of that whole assembly of Ed Asner , Ted Knight (?) and the others. That show was great in its heyday.

There was a sort of modern day "Western" where the cast included (I think) J Carroll Nash ( he played charlie chan for a short time at the end of the charlie chan movies when Warner Oland was sick).
Nash played this Indian chief who was always wheeler dealering and he drove a bigass Continental convertible in his head dress.
Forgot the name of the show and it was NOT "F Troop". That show blew.

@farmerman,
I could be wrong, I have no idea where to begin looking but I recall I was quite young, maybe 12 or 13 when I saw it and it was funny to me then.
Many of these shows didnt hold up well. I used to love "Greatest American Hero" , but they show reruns on the COZI network and that show really shows its age , its like the Lone ranger, nobody gets killed.
I wonder how Terrantino could redo the Lone Ranger?
