What is a .IDX file? I have a ton of them in my 'My Documents' folder and don't know what they do or why they're there.
I have Linux, but I suppose that this is a Index File Format from Outlook Express.
Those are INDEX files that act as reference files
They are safe.
The ".IDX" extension in Windows most typically relates to Outlook/Outlook Express, and more or less is an index file which speeds the re-opening of message, or ".MBX" files. IDX files related to Outlook/Outlook Express are safe to delete; they will be recreated the next time the associated ".MBX" file - which is the message itself - is opened. The ."IDX" extension also relates to index files in COBOL, UNIX, and, I believe, in Linux and in MAC OS's, but if you're runnin' Windows and using either Outlook or Outlook Express as your mail/news client, odds are that's where they're coming from.

So I'm right.

No, there are not these files.
I'm not all that familiar with the innards of Linux, so if you say they aren't there, Thok, I'll go with that.
Yep, Windows XP pro and Outlook Express. Okay, it makes sense now. Thanks.
