I'm always hungry after school, which is when I do my homework, what are the best snacks to get me filled up without having to be constantly snacking? (preferably healthy)

@doggie lover,
They are a delicious sweetie, and they are not too fattening. Mostly because they are filled with a light creme made with sweetened marscapone (my favorite way)

HAVE ONE

Yes, the protein in the peanuts will keep one's mind slogging along.

I agree! Trail mix is good and healthy. You also can eat nuts (brain food) and
some fruit.

The canolli you would have to make yourself, you can't buy them really unless you're in an Italian restaurant, they have it as dessert.

@CalamityJane,
You can buy them (or could, as I don't know if the place is still there) at an italian market in Culver City (Los Angeles area); they had a good bakery among other wonderful stuff.

Farmerman wrote somewhere here about how to make tubes to make your own cannoli..
Who knows, maybe one can order cannoli tubes online.

@ossobuco,
I personally don't like them this much, osso. Smile

The kid just wants a snack while doing homework, eating canelloni will give him a short sugar rush and from there it goes all down hill.....

@CalamityJane,
Laughing.. I, of all people, don't think I've ever tasted a cannoli. Me, who often makes savory ricotta tortes. Or I did once buy one cannoli and said to myself, eh! But that ital market did have them fresh. I might mix them up having tasted them with cannelloni, which I've only made once, with a boyfriend years ago and remember liking but, too much trouble, says me. Maybe I should consider cannelloni again - it's been quite a while. I know, I know, they are different, but I still remain not quite sure I've ever tasted cannoli.

I agree with the nuts suggestion, the trail mix suggestion, fruit, etc. I like cold raw carrots (peeled and sometimes refrigerator pickled). I also like smoothies and tend to have a pitcher with a smoothie mix in my refrigerator fairly often. There are a zillion smoothie recipes out there.

@CalamityJane,
cannoli, not canelloni
slightly different

I used to like an unsweetened banana bread as my study snack when I was in high school. Now I'm more likely to hit up some protein.

@CalamityJane,
The cannoli are frightfully dense , in my experience. It's the ricotta that does me in.

@ehBeth,
Oh, I said canelloni instead of cannoli - sorry! I like canelloni much better than the dessert cannoli Smile

@ehBeth,
I had some cannoli that were home made by a real old Italian Mama,
still not really my cup of tea.

@CalamityJane,
I'm the same - Italian desserts for the most part don't work for me. Too dense/heavy. Different Italian friends and neighbours have tried to convert me. mmm no. no thank you.

On dense ricotta, I get you; I like it in my tortes but it's mixed with three or four eggs and lots of vegetables and spice, relatively liquid when it goes in the oven.
