Fingers crossed. Watching.
@Walter Hinteler,
You mean, you don't really regulate the curvature of bananas?
Torrential rain and flooding in London and south-east on referendum day might have effects as well
Thanks Walter, I am not too good at finding my way around the tags. In any case, I've been keeping up somewhat at BBC updates. Interesting seeing the unique polling stations.
Live reporting
It seems they are not allowed to report details while the polls are open. Disappointing. In any case, I hope they vote to stay in the European Union.
Good evening everyone, or should I say morning, as it is half past midnight here as I type.
I have chosen to stay out of this thread for the past umpteen pages, as I became tired of the condescension, to be honest, and the apparent obsession to show how I was wrong.
I never set out to prove I was right. I set out merely to give my opinion and to try to explain to the thread author just why quite a few Brits wanted to leave the EU.
I also gave up reading the papers over the past week or so, when the level of scaremongering from the remain camp became laughable, culminating with the esteemed Herr Juncker from the EU actually trying to say that if the UK left the EU, then that could bring about the demise of western civilisation.
I am just off to bed, after waiting for the results to cone in. The first four (out of over 300 districts) have declared, and it would seem that the silent majority are finally having their say.
I said right back on page one or two here that I honestly believed that the result will surprise many people.
I still stand by that, and believe that by the time I get up tomorrow, the silent majority......the ones that don't throw insults or belittle, but just go quietly into the ballot box, will have had their way and we will be leaving the EU.
My forecast has always been 60 ish percent OUT, and 40 ish REMAIN.
The money markets and all the dealer spivs will no doubt cause sterling to bounce down and up, so that they can make money on the whole deal, but once the sharks have had their fill and it all settles down, it will be interesting to see how the Euro "establishment" react to it all.
The German business chief has already said that EU tariffs will be a very, very foolish thing to impose, and he doubts that any such measure would be imposed.
As far as the referendum is concerned, it would seem that a democratic vote is voting for democracy, which is what I wanted right from the start.
There will be unsettled waters ahead for a while, but don't be surprised if this referendum lark catches on over the rest of the EU.
Goodnight everyone. Sweet dreams.
@Lordyaswas,
If it makes you feel any better, Lordy, your posts had quite an effect on this American. In another forum, one devoted to a hobby, there was quite a mix of nationalities, (your country's flag appeared under your name), and a few years ago most of the Europeans and the Brits were pro-EU, to the point where many of the members chose to use the EU flag under their name instead of the national flag.
With its prohibition of capital punishment and strong emphasis on environmental rules and human rights laws, I started having a very favorable attitude toward the EU as well. I had an image of the anti-EU Brits as being part of the far right wing. However, your posts changed that, and I saw that a normal UK citizen can have good reasons for wanting to leave. I'm not saying I'm necessarily partial to the UK leaving-I don't enough about it-but at least the people who want to leave don't seem so motivated by a dark agenda.
@Lordyaswas,
Thank you for posting your opinion on this matter. "Inside" information is more meaningful for "us" outsiders. At least, it is for me.
I hope your prediction of 60/40 is correct.
@Lordyaswas,
I missed your voice here, but I definitely understand how you must have felt amid the theater.
Good night and good luck.
@Blickers,
Grateful for your open mind on this issue.
BBC and ITV have both predicted that the UK has voted to LEAVE the European Union.
Dow futures are plunging as I type this, -400 points, -600 points, -650 points.....
EDIT: Note that this is a prediction not an official tally. Remember "Dewey Beats Truman".
Trading has been halted in Nikkei (Japan) futures.
@Lordyaswas,
Congratulations!
I hope, everything will work out as fine as the majority of your country wants it to be!
(As an aside: Germany doesn't have a "business chief")

Will the EU survive do you think?
@oralloy,
The markets always get skittish about anything they aren't sure of. In a few weeks things will be back to normal.
Besides, even yesterday there was already talk from the EU side about just because the UK is leaving the EU does not mean there can't be a special relationship between the EU and the UK in regards to trade, etc.
@oralloy,
Yes. But certainly things will change, though I have no idea in what way.
I've written here so often:I never thought that the majority of the UK was "European". But I do think, they belong to Europe, not just geographically.
It's even here where I live, quite a disaster for the local economy ...
@oralloy,
I wonder, if there will be a new Scotland referendum.

Most likely.
I hope things turn out OK for you and everyone else.
