Why are wives being murdered?

Has anyone noticed the strong similarities between the two current murder investigations for Laci Peterson and Lori Hacking? For one, both cases involve the husband as investigator's primary suspects. Both Scott Peterson and Mark Hacking also have a history of lying to their spousesÂ…with Scott admitting an affair with another woman (Amber Frey) and Mark having lied about his career and schooling for years.

With so much currently going on with both trials, (such as the judge in the Peterson case putting the trial on hold because of new found evidence, and the investigators in the Hacking murder digging a landfill each day looking for the body of Lori Hacking) I thought to start a discussion group here and see what everyone's opinions are.

I also wanted to mentioned that Court TV just announced that Nancy Grace (I love this lady) will be keeping us updated on both trials through a live nightly broadcasts next week, at 8pm each night (Monday - Thursday). For those following either or both cases, this helps us stay one day ahead of what get printed in the newspapers. Perhaps we can use the topics she brings up as sources of discussion here as well.

Fatal Fathers
A&E is airing a "special presentation" tomorrow evening (Monday, August 16) entitled Fatal Fathers. It's an exploration in the issue why husbands murder their pregnant wives.

Yet another Court TV spammer.

In case nobody has noticed they spam the net's message boards trying to drum up interest in their channels.

This account is probably about the 6th account that has spammed us, and this thread probably between the 15th to 20th time they did so.

Just an FYI for those actually trying to communicate with the spammer (who is only interested in one-way communication: promotion of Court TV).

Why are pregnant wives murdered?
Scott Peterson is presumed innocent. Unless he is found guilty, we can't label him a wife murderer. However, I think there is a strong case against him for premeditated murder.

Scott was actively searching for a new woman (lover) and obtained an introduction to Amber in November. This suggests that Scott was unhappy in his marriage with Lacy. Why? Was Lacy paying too much attention to the pregnancy and Connor's expected arrival? Was self-centered Scott feeling neglected and pushed aside in favor of the baby? Was Scott jealous of "Lacy's baby?"

On or about December 9 (two weeks before Lacy "disappeared"), Scott told Amber that he was previously married, but his wife died. Scott told Amber this was going to be his first Christmas without his wife. An uncanny prediction or premeditation?

Thereafter, he bought a small fishing boat. (premeditation?)

He researched the water currents in the San Francisco Bay. (premeditation?)

He planned a future with Amber. He told Amber that he didn't want any children--that her daughter would be enough for him. Why? Was his experience with a pregnant wife that disgusting to him that he never wanted to go through that again? (Motive?)

After Amber learned about Lacy and that she was pregnant with baby Connor, she confronted Scott. Scott referred to Connor as "Lacy's baby" or "her baby." Why? Because Lacy concentrated on the pregnancy and the baby instead of Scott? Was "Lacy's baby" the source of his unhappiness?

Lacy's body and Connor's body wash up on the shore of the bay where Scott was trying out his new boat and fishing on the day Lacy allegedly disappeared. Another uncanny coincidence or just bad luck for Scott?

There is no "smoking gun" in this case, but the circumstantial evidence is stacked against Scott. Murderers are most often convicted on the basis of circumstantial evidence of premeditation.

BBB
I'm not at all interested in following either of these trials and the vast majority of others of similar nature.

I'm more interested in the title of this thread "Why are wives being murdered" which kind of got lost in the responses.

Why do men murder their wives, girlfriends, etc? Is it revenge, sex, helplessness, disrespect for women, etc. etc.?

Yeah BBB I spoke about this in another thread. The spammer did us a favor by posting the thread here.

If Scott Peterson murdered his wife, I think he thought about it for a long time and the more he thought about it--hate began to consume him. I think he was totally self-absorbed and self-centered and resented the baby that she was carrying because he wasn't the center of Lacy's world anymore. I think she probably rejected him sexually in the early months of the pregnancy and continued to do so as she grew bigger. I think that Scott grew to HATE "Lacy's baby."

He actively sought out another woman to service his needs (as he prioritized his needs) and soon after Lacy disappeared--Scott subscribed to porn channels. I think Scott viewed Lacy's pregnancy as something that totally destroyed his sex life--he was taking a backseat to the baby--his resentment grew--Lacy (as a baby incubator and future mother) became something totally repugnant and hateful to him. He wanted a sexy woman to cater to his needs--cater to his ego. He didn't want to be a father because he figured that Lacy would always put "her child" ahead of him and he saw his entire life ruined--he resented Lacy and her baby for tying him down to a life he didn't want--he resented Lacy for getting pregnant and it ate away at him until his heart and mind were filled with murderous thoughts. (My theory, anyway.)

Did he strangle her to death? It takes a lot of hate to strangle someone to death.

I think Scott's motives were consuming selfishness, consuming jealousy, consuming hate, & a consuming need for revenge. I think he wanted to make sure that Lacy would not live long enough to enjoy having "her baby" and he wanted to kill her just before the holidays to deprive her of that joy too.

Why do current and former husbands/boyfriends/lovers kill their women? Because there is a fine line between love (lust) and hate (rage)--and almost anything can spark someone to cross that line and commit murder.

Lost Mothers
Motherhood cut short: When pregnancy ends in murder

Quote:
Fear of fatherhood

As more statistics on pregnancy-related mortality become available, experts are beginning to see pregnancy as an aggravating factor that increases a woman's risk of being murdered.

"Pregnancy is obviously a big, life-changing event, especially for a man. The emotional and financial responsibilities involved are huge stones around their necks," said Pat Brown, a criminal profiler and president of the Sexual Homicide Exchange.

However, Brown said, if something happens to the wife and child, those responsibilities disappear.

"If he doesn't want the child, why doesn't he just leave her?" she said. "He can do that, but that doesn't eliminate the responsibilities: child support, alimony, then as they get older, the kids want to see you. It never ends."

Bad signs

Dr. Judith McFarlane says intimate partner abuse and homicide is not a lower-class issue. . . .

"Men who cross the line to murder their pregnant wives and girlfriends show signs of being psychopathic long before the murder," she said.

She added that women often rush into relationships out a desire for companionship and then choose to remain in them, even after it becomes obvious that the relationship is troubled, often "explaining away" less than honorable behavior for the same reasons.

"Women should be even more cautious about getting pregnant with any man who exhibits a lack of concern for her happiness and well being, is manipulative, is a pathological liar, exhibits grandiose thinking, and has a history of dishonesty."
