@Ragman,
Oh Ragman, you really don't need a defender, but I was baffled by the poster's comments. Apparently he/she has been here only a short time and may be decades younger than the rest of us.

I've been OK enough, turns out I won't have to have surgery but I still need to see a few specialists to hopefully cure this stupid esophageal kerfuffle. We had a very nice Thanksgiving, our son and his wife (ah hah hah hah hah ha) prepared the meal so we were guests. I actually like making the meal but it's time to let them continue the tradition.

How about you, did you have a good holiday? I'm relieved you were not annoyed by me piping up. But I cannot abide a bully. Hope you are in good health and I look forward to your next cartoon caption. Cheers, G'bag

@glitterbag,
thanks, I'm doing fine. Glad you don't need surgery. I wonder if these docs collect all of these body parts and plan on cloning us. What a thought!

For the holiday I spent time with a close friend/neighbor and his elderly mom and his sister. Two days later my dear sister invited me over her place to share Turkey-day with her hubby and another newly-married couple..best friend of hers...got married recently in her late '60s. Hey, it happens. Lovely couple.

@Ragman,
Sounds wonderful, life is meant to be lived. I'll send you a note on friends of mine that found love (way) after 50.

@Ragman,
We all need to accentuate the positive
and eliminate the negative
Latch on to te affirmative
But don't mess with mister inbetween!

My mom had this on a 78 rpm, did your parents like big band? This tune was first released in 1944, but I remember the version sung by Bing Crosby in a film "Here comes the WAVES". I guess I first saw the film was probably on the "2 O'Clock movie" which was a local staple showing old black and white films sometime in the late 50's early 60's. My mother would watch it me and give a running color either singing along or identifying the actresses and actors. Mom was a music and film enthusiast ands made it sing for me anomy brother.

P.S. The WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) was created in 1942 in response to the need foe additional military personnel during WWII and were an official part of the Navy)

P.P.S. No, I did not serve during WWII, I wasn't even a gleam in my father's eye.

They did but frankly they collected about a dozen records (supermarket giveaways or specials). It was more the case of my aunts and uncles who did and passed on the love of that sound and style.

My interest in music was/is unusually broad and wide and went back as far as the '20s jazz and popular. I started purchasing and listening to folk, pop and rock from the late-'50s onward. I'm an audiophile so I still have a turntable, have 100s of LPs and CDs.

I learned an instrument (clarinet) as a child and when puberty hit, the lessons stopped. My love of all kinds of music blossomed. I loved to sing and imitate singers. Bing was one of those imitated as well as Elvis, Roy Orbison.

Once I recorded my singing voice on my brothers tape recorder, shockingly I heard what others heard. then it was singing in the car or shower or under the affluence of incohol.

Oh yeah, I know about WAF, WAVES, etc. I was enlisted in the Air Force for a few years back in 1970-1975.
