My brother found this rock in the chalk (in the ground)
Any idea what it could be?

its called MARCASITE. Its a kind of fools gold that forms as an alteration from several pyrite minerqls. Its always found in sedimentary deposits and chalk is a favorite locale.

Cool. I was gonna guess Pyrite when I first saw it, but it didn't have cubic crystals so I wasn't sure.

They call it "cockscomb ore" in the mines and it usually means the iron layers will soon peter out
