Pelmiced.exe?

I have a pretty good idea of the programs that run on my PC because I watch them in the Task Manager (I have Win XP home).

Very recently (I think within the last week), a program called PELMICED.exe has shown up.

I looked this up on the net and PELMICED.exe is a mouse program for win 95 & 98. It's never run on my XP machine before, but now it comes on automatically, even after I shut it down in the Task Manager, it restarts at some time later.

I don't shut my machine off at night, but the program restarts anyway--I don't know when it restarts because the only indicator is that PELMICED.exe shows up in the Task Mgr.

Is this a virus or something?

Oh, also (and this might possibly be related), my mouse (IBM Scrollmouse) just began behaving differently a few days ago.

e.g. in PhotoShop Elements, the scroll wheel would always allow me to zoom in or out of a photo, but not to scroll the photo up or down.

Now it does just the opposite.

Also changing at the same time was its behavior in Pagemaker 7.0. The scroll wheel has always been useless in this program, but now it scrolls the documents.

My wife's computer also uses a scroll mouse and PageMaker 7, and hers behaves the "old" way, so I know it's not a poltergeist in my house.

Thanks for your help,

General Tsao

PELMICED.exe is a part of IBM mouse software.
This task enable Windows 95 & 98 to use the mouse scroll wheel.
You are running XP so you do not need it, just disable it from:
Start/Run and type msconfig then open the StartUp tab and uncheck near PELMICED.exe then click Apply and OK and Restart your PC.
Once your PC reboot the MSCONFIG dialog box appear, so just check don't show this message again and close.
That's it.
